Found them a couple of years back thanks to an artist named Leah (celt/metal/gamer, well worth checking out - her latest (Ancient Winter) was a Christmas album, but unbelievers shouldn't avoid it as it is GORGEOUS and led me to her other stuff! Leah covered some Nightwish songs way back before becoming a big deal in her own right, and recommends them highly - her fan group does a thing called Metal Monday which led me to Nightwish early on! By the way I'm 75 and grew up in Toronto, so from the late 60's to the mid 70's when I moved elsewhere I saw every folk and rock artist of any significance who visited Southern Ontario in concert - so my standards are ridiculously high! Thanks to the Internet I get exposed to a LOT of independent artists, and a surprising number (e.g. Nightwish) meet my exactingl listen-often standards! ❤

As someone who's always had an interest in animals and biology, the science references in these lyrics are really cool. Let's see, we've got: "Look at yourself in the eyes of aye-aye" - An aye-aye is a really weird, cool species of lemur that exists today. It's also a primate, which makes it one of our modern-day cousins. "Welcoming the shrew that survived" - Likely a reference to the idea that primates may have evolved from a species of extinct, shrew-like mammal (which wasn't literally a shrew, of course, but it probably looked a lot like one). "To see the tiktaalik take her first walk" - The tiktaalik was an extinct ancient fish with leg-like fins that would have allowed it to walk on land for short periods of time. Scientists believe it might represent the evolutionary transition between fish and amphibians. "Deeper down in Panthalassa" - Panthalassa is the name given to the ancient super-ocean that surrounded Pangaea, until continental drift eventually created the continents and oceans we know today. "A eukaryote finds her way" - A eukaryote is any organism with cells that have a nucleus contained inside a membrane; basically, the kind of cell most people would have learned about in high school biology. Almost all multicellular organisms are eukaryotes, so if eukaryote cells hadn't evolved, we wouldn't be here. So in general, this is some pretty smart stuff. We don't see enough appreciation out there for the beauty of life in all its complexity. :)
@non-binaryconservative61106 жыл бұрын

@j.lahtinen75256 жыл бұрын
Just one slight correction; you said: "The tiktaalik was an extinct ancient fish with leg-like fins that would have allowed it to walk on land for short periods of time. Scientists believe it might represent the evolutionary transition between fish and amphibians." While science and scientists are typically very careful with expressing any level of certainty, "might represent" here, in this case, is much too cautious. This, not only the existence of Tiktaalik, but it's age, and the likely place it would be found, were all predicted from the theory, and Tiktaalik was indeed found, as predicted, where predicted, in the right age rocks. Tiktaalik was thus a remarkable confirmation of a prediction, and thus it would be very unlikely indeed that it wouldn't represent a transitional form showing the conquering of land by our fish ancestors. I'd correct the "might represent" to "very likely represents", and even that might be a tad too cautious, under the circumstances.

Agreed. I had started learning guitar before I discovered Nightwish, but discovering them, and Emppu, is the #1 reason I started to advance - because I wanted to learn how to play some of the songs he plays. He's an absolutely fantastic guitarist, but I agree with the humbleness - but what's so awesome about that is that someone like me can learn some of the songs he plays, because they're simpler, but then also find challenges within the repertoire as well, like Wishmaster, The Kinslayer, or Shudder Before The Beautiful. He does enough songs that I can actually play along with to feel like I'm getting somewhere...but still put out enough challenges that make me learn how to be a better player.

Now THIS is my kind of lyric video! I saw Nightwish at The Greek and their set (including this song) was powerful and spectacular, so for anyone who will be seeing them, get ready for one hell of a ride! I'm still jazzed and it's been over a week. Still have 'Weak Fantasy' cranked up to eleven! For the "this isn't the old Nightwish/bring back Tarja or Annette" crowd, could you just STOP? No, this IS NOT the old Nightwish, and if they were you'd be bitching that they sounded the same or didn't do anything different. And get over it, the Tarja and Annette eras are OVER. I love both vocalists and there are wonderful musical memories, but they've moved on. Lastly, Floor. I have been a fan of hers since After Forever and she is a perfect fit for Nightwish. She's a very versatile vocalist who nailed Stargazers and Sleeping Sun while doing perfect justice to Storytime. She's gorgeous and down to earth as well. If she had done straight operatics, you Tarja hangers-on would be bitching that she was "just copying Tarja". Seriously, some people's lives are so petty that they can't do anything else but spread negativity. Well, I can't wait until YOUR band puts out an album. Oh wait...silence. You don't HAVE a band.

Rarely has music touched me as powerfully as this song. The first time she sang ‘of endless forms most beautiful’, hair literally stood on the back of my neck, my arms, hell, even on my legs. The bridge works brilliantly, and unlike often in pop/rock/metal, the modulation does nothing but elevate the song. Last time I felt the way I do know - almost exhausted - was after participating in performing Mozarts Requiem. I cannot say exactly what it is with this song, but it is powerful not only in music, but in lyrics as well, in a way that is incredibly rare today.

I've never seen a band so goddamn happy to be doing what they do. I finally got to see them live again for the first time since 2008 when they came to Brisbane last month and they were all smiles and laughing and pulling jokes on each other during the set, it was just an amazing and uplifting experience. THIS is exactly what the spirit of Metal is. It's supposed to make you fucking FEEL something. I nearly passed out in the front of the fucking moshpit during Ghost Love Score due to the heat and a lack of water, but regardless I was convinced the only way I was leaving the front was on a fucking stretcher. Thankfully the security guard got me a bottle of water :P

Martyna Podgórska I wanna be honest here since you shared your opinion with us. But dont worry i will not rage like a stupid person. I have been a fan for many years. I have listened to them since i was 14 years old. That was nearly about 10 years ago and to be exact it was 8 years. I have grown up with listening to Tarjas Voice and sadly cannot say that i agree with you. Floors Voice is not bad. She is a good singer. But for me Tarja is on a much higher level. Tarjas voice was, what made Nightwish unique in my opinion. Now of course it is only my opinion but i just had to share it with you just as well as you shared your opinion with us.

***** Me too, I was also 14 years old, when I started listening to Nighwish (the first song which I listened was Dark Chest Of Wonders) and I remember that I was soo blue when I found out that Tarja was kicked out from the band, and I was a bit disappointed that she was replaced by Anette. I was missing their old stuff, but later I got used to Anette (I adore the Poet and the Pendulum, and the whole album Imaginaerum). When Anette left, I was thinking, who will be next? Then, I met Floor, I was just like "Ummm...okay".. But while listening Ghost Love Score in her performance... It was just... breathtaking! In my opinion she's the best, because she is able to perform old stuff and also the new ones. That makes her special to me! I really love Tarja, I listen a lot of Nightwish's albums with her and also her solo albums... But Nightwish has now a huge variety with Floor! Greetings to you, friend, Gikame!

Martyna Podgórska Well opinions are different and good that they are. I can sadly not say that i like the newer songs but there have to also be people that like it just like you do. It would be pretty boring if everyone would just like the same. But thank you for acting reasonable. That lightens up my day since i just ended a conversation with someone who was not nearly as reasonable as you are. But let me end that before i begin to talk about the person. Anyways: Thank you once again for sharing your opinion with the public and thank you for acting in a reasonable fashion. I wish you a great day/evening :3 Greetings from Germany to you Martyna Podgórska

You know, for all the haters out there. I really enjoyed this music video. To me it's rock music for evolutionists. This is celebrating nature and science, a celebration of life. The reason the lyrics are visually there is to reinforce the message (how many times do you listen to a song and never understand the lyrics). We are as a species finally and slowly emerging from our superstitious past and embracing the reality of who we are and where we came from. There is an incredible beauty in Science and I wish we acknowledged it more.

Lol, Darwinian evolution is not biology, it's religion. In fact, it's superstition because at least other religions contain psychological truths, where as Darwinian evolution is really based on faith alone. Anyone who knows anything about history and science knows that that this idiotic hypothesis (it's not a theory because in scientific discourse, theory is a term that requires some evidence to be called that) makes no sense and there is no proof for it. Darwin was a nutjob and this idea came from his grandfather, not him. And again, it's not science...it's a political ideology which presents nature only as a dominance hierarchy and a ruthless battle for survival and therefore in context of the time when those idiots lived gives them pseudoscientific justification to enslave the "lesser races", because white British men are the peak of evolution for them. What Darwin and his proponents forget to mention is that symbiosis is as much a part of nature as survival of the fittest is, and even human beings could not exist without our gut bacteria + nature itself is full of organisms that help each other to survive. Darwinian evolution is a pseudoscientific political and religious doctrine and scientists promoting this crap are what nothing more than moral prostitutes or people too afraid to speak out, because they know there is zero evidence for this in observable reality. Not only that, but for almost 200 years in which garbage hypothesis has been around, the Darwinians fail to present any real evidence and they are trying to portray anyone who disagrees as some wild-haired Bible thumping creationist. In other words, in lack of evidence they are using ad hominem attacks on people who for the most part are not religious loonies, but are biologists, microbiologists etc. and have equal or better scientific credentials as the Darwinians. Evolution is a fact. Organisms evolve and adapt over periods of time and we can see this. The mechanics of evolution are for the most part still unclear and it's an ongoing process of determining how it happens. Darwinian evolution on the other hand is religion and nothing else, and on top of no real evidence for it, the best proof that it's garbage is that the most popular Darwinians need to sink so low to use ad hominem attacks on real scientists because they have real evidence of their own. On top of all that, Darwinian evolution is a linguistic fraud as well. One of the mechanisms of this idiotic theory is the so-called natural selection. Natural - of the natural world. Selection - the action or fact of carefully choosing someone or something as being the best or most suitable. So they are using a word which implies conscious choice to describe a theory that promotes "lucky coincidences". A very stupid pseudo philosopher named Daniel Dennett once said something like: "we know it's all a series of lucky conicidences". Well ok, if that's supposed to be science, then go predict something from a lucky coincidence or replicate something from it. It's a good song, but Tuomas is once again trying to be cute and progressive while having absolutely no idea what he's talking about :D.

Complex mechanical devices are a common analogy when discussing life. e.g. Dawkin's "Blind Watchmaker" which is itself a reference to the concept of God as something analagous to a watchmaker.
@bluesdealer5 жыл бұрын
@@cargo_vroom9729 Indeed! Although, while the teleological argument does not "prove" God's existence, as its creators had hoped, it does raise a good point about order vs. chaos and the nature of life in the maelstrom of the chaotic universe and it's inherent entropy. Whether or not you choose to believe in a higher universal consciousness, the beauty and improbably of life's mechanisms are a wonder to behold. Back to the topic, I think the watch mechanism background was appropriate for the reason you stated.
