The goat killed is killed by doing jhatka, jhatka means one strike, so the animal feels the most minnimum pain as possible. Jhatka is eaten. Shaheedi degh is a mirijuana drink which destroys pain from war, helps prepare for war, and gives you energy for meditation. Guru gobind singh ji acctually did cut the 5 heads off, if he said that i am making khalsa today and i need 5 volonteers to help, everone would have got up. He wanted 5 who would be willing to do anything that the guru says.

Buddy does it make any sense?? Are we still in war zone or that old era?? Please do not spread wrong info. This is wrong in sikhism. Sikh are not allowed to eat meat. The whole reason behind eating meat on earlier centuries or specially in wars because they haven’t had such amount of food. But now, there are numerous type of foods are available to eat and it does not make any sense to harm animals for their taste of tongue. We cannot justify innocent killings.

Hi Elissa, I like you for being honest. Trust me people on the day of Vaisakhi in 1699 were astonished, confused and shocked to their very bones when Guru Gobind Singh ji asked for HEAD. Earlier. some were expecting to get teachings from the Guru on the day etc etc but this came as blow, infact sikhi is all about love and compassion. Some even left in fear. But this was a test as Guru was going to establish the fearless "panth" called "Khalsa" (pure). Besides being compassionate and loving, one must be always fearless to stand up with truth for others and themselves and ready to give their life for good cause (back then Mughal ruler and others was ill treating normal person who remained in fear and cant do anything). Five great men rose who were willing to give their head. This was preview how "Khalsa" was going to be , fearless and submission to Guru. Those Five were perfectly fine and emerged as Khalsa who does not discriminate on caste, creed or colour. The Khalsa was created to save humanity! Khalsa is always ready to stood against injustice and indeed a follows love and compassion. On further note, three of the five actually sacrificed their life in the war of 40 against 1,000,000 as they were supposed to be. Hope this helps!

How would you justify killing animals and then use the blood to clean the swords and drinking shardai(Bhang, Cannabis) in the name of Dhan Shri Guru Gobind Singh Ji. Could you please explain this? These Nihang Singhs are not part of the Guru Gobid Singh Ji's Khalsa Panth they all came from the Granth called SURAJ PRAKASH written by Sant Santokh Singh. Who gives birth to all this non-sense and fictional shit about our gurus and our culture. This is clearly not the part of Khalsa that we got from Dhan Shri Guru Gobind Singh Maharaj.

@@garrysingh8957 I see where you are coming from in terms of being compassionate, but Nihangs have protected Sikhi for hundreds of years. It is very well documented in sources outside of Suraj Prakash, in texts by French and British travelers etc. Also, Dhan Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji himself 'killed' animals... how are you to be proficient in the use of weapons and be Tyaar bar Tyaar for battle at any given moment without being able to kill? It is through the hunting, stalking animals and learning how to deliver a killing blow in the most merciful way (cleaving heads off with one blow) that the Khalsa of the 1700's and 1800's were able to put up such a fight against the Mughals and the British. I know that you will say that there are no wars etc now, but the last thing that Sri Guru Gobind Singh Ji said to the Khalsa was that never forsake the Waheguru mantar, Gurbaani and also never give up wielding weapons as no other community will be able to make you their subservient. Wielding a weapon is one thing... but learning how to use one well and being comfortable with the scenes of warfare is another. If this can be done without aimlessly killing animals for sport, I would be all for it. Also, the bhang part comes from puratan battle history too... it is a more natural painkiller than popping pills which I am sure you would do if you were in significant pain, I do not condone drinking it for Sukh and 'bliss' as this should only come from Gurbaani and your connection to Waheguru.

@@garrysingh8957 they are keeping the tradition alive. The guru requested all Sikhs to be ready for battle at all times. Spiritual battle within our minds and physical battle if needed. That's why gatka is learnt. The nihangs are keeping that tradition alive. Go see them in person, it's as if you've gone back in time. It's beautiful. The tilak on the sword is to bless the sword. The swords they use for practicing the style of gatka as instructed by the guru. An uncovered sword demands blood. The animal is not wasted and as they were also blessed by the guru to consume meat so they have the strength for battle. They live the same way as how they did since the beginning. Alot of Sikhs these days have become materialistic. These guys aren't materialistic.

Just to clarify, as a nihang scholar myself. The Jhatka ceremony (ritual slaughter) of the goat 🐐 is primarily for the community kitchen. However the ritual application of the blood to anoint weapons (tilak) is as a means of blessing the animals hereafter, as well as continue the understanding that weapons are sacred tools that take life and not just ornamental. If you would like some more detail i would love to come up for an interview 🙏🏼

it's not like a sacraficial ritual or anything, he meant he was referring to shedding the blood of the animal by killing it at the special occasion like the festival in comparison to always hunting and killing animals randomly, and they use all parts of the animal and kill it primarily to eat the meat and don't waste the blood which is usually drained and thrown out. and they do it this way themselves as opposed to buying meat from the store which is indirectly supporting the bad quality of meat farms. Also wanted to add context for the weed, since the nihangs live more of a warrior lifestyle, they used it in the past as a sort of pain killer from injuries in battle and to focus on prayers and clear their minds in the middle of intense situations like war, its a controversial thing because normal sikhs living their everyday life dont need it since they arent going out and fighting battles since a very few number of people still use it to focus on prayers and clear their mind. Most people dont need it or use it since its done 3-5am and is generally peaceful enough for everyone.

Compassion is highly advised to sikhs so they raise the goat humanely and then they slice the head from the back because the animal dies instantly and doesnt feel pain. It just looks gruesome but if you think about it, factory farms are worse as the animals are left in the most inhumane ways. The khalsa does not kill for "Sacrifice"

Hello, So since the British took over Panjab. They changed a bunch of things 1. Long beards (they made us tie it) 2. Long three foot swords, they made is the small daggers we see 3. Our turbans, the nihangs the tie it is what our 10th guru tied. That’s what the Singhs back then tied. The British turned it and changed the design) 4. Opium (in the smaller quantity for medical - purposes. Even elders over 50 today consume small amounts to keep their blood healthy and Bunch of more benefits. 5. Shaheedi Degha - cannabis infused protein drink. (Contains 5 leaves of cannabis with all types of nuts and seeds) 5. Jhatka- all Thakts(Sikh authority thrones) had jhatka happened few times a week to make sure the khalsa remains ready for war to make sure all dietary requirements are fulfilled. The people who will go against this, Will never have read our historical scriptures and they will make their own meanings out of things. Their lens in which they view sikhi has changed. The same people who will say these things are wrong, will never be Able to defend themselves when time kicks off. A famous Sikh shaheed Shaheed Bhai Avtar Singh Ji Bharma Jhatkange singh of Baba Bidhi chand (nihang dal) Most of our sikhs today view sikhi from neo lens. Please click on jhatkamaryada.com They have gurbani and historical references to everything :) Listen to those who have learnt from someone. Not those who have never themselves studied any historical or religious texts. Watch them complain now. Our gurus consumed meat and cannabis. From the same historical text that we learn everything else from. But they don’t like the truth because they themselves cannot live to It. Thankyou! Sehajdeep singh Sydney, Australia 🇦🇺

thank you for reacting to this video 🙏🏼 some doubts that viewers may have in regards of the traditions upheld by the Nihang Singhs will be answered below. 1) the herb prepared in the video is called the "Shaheedi Degh" (elixir of the martyrs) . It is made out of grinding various herbs in a stone mortar and wooden pestle until they become paste. Cannabis is one of the ingredients used in the process which helps the Singhs to recover from their journeys and other hardwork conducted throughout the day such as serving the horses, elephants, camels. Serving in the community kitchen (langar) and serving in the court of the Guru (darbar). The drink also helps in the meditative process of the individual and helps to combat extreme heat by cooling down the body, thus keeping the Singhs away from diseases. This elixir was blessed to us by the Gurus and was highly used at the times of battles as a form of pain killer. The Nihang Singhs still hold this tradition of preparing this drink despite numerous attempts to destroy the tradition and introduce drinks such as coffees, teas etc etc which the Nihang Singhs stay away from. 2) Jhatka, which simply translated to "one strike" is another warrior tradition upheld by the Nihang Singhs. The animal is killed with one straight rapid strike to the neck, an opposite technique from the Islamic tradition of Halal where the animal is slit on the throat and left to bleed. Jhatka is a distinguishable tradition of the Nihang Singhs. The Khalsa has been performing Jhatka since the time of the Gurus, One is at liberty to choose for themselves whether or not they wish to eat Mahaparshad(the great food). Many oppose the tradition of Jhatka and the British tried to ban it. To clear up from the video, the blood is used to honour the weapons which have been extensively praised by the Tenth Guru within their writings. The skin of the animal is skinned and its used to make various items such as clothing, pouches etc etc, as well as battle drums and other musical instruments such as the Jori, the tabla, the sarangi and so on... And finally its meat is cooked and fed to the Army which provides them the right nutrients and energy to live the nomadic chakrvarti (forever roaming) lifestyle that has been ordered by the Guru. If anyone wishes to learn more, please visit our Instagram @sovereignpanth and check out many of our posts. In the old times, they used every single part of the animal. The skin for pelts, the bones for making certain things, the blood to keep the weapons satiated and the meat to eat. Even down to the bone marrow and the cartilage, they make for a great broth

It’s not an animal sacrifice. It’s killing of the animal for purpose of eating, using its flesh for making instruments/weapons and then, giving some blood to the swords. Remember, the way sikhs believe Guru Granth Sahib(text) to be the living Guru. In the similar fashion, the weapons are also treated as living consciousness of the shakti(the divine feminine).

The weapons are considered living consciousness of shakti and tilk of the killed goat is ritually applied to them if it is not a sacrifice then what it is How much you will twist things to your convenience.

When Guru Gobind Singh ji created the Khalsa, he needed strong believers. He needed people who are devoted to his cause and his vision. He told the crowd that he needed a head. And when the first volunteer went up he took them into the tent and the crowd could hear a definite thud of a sword hitting something. And then you see Guru Gobind Singh Ji walk out of that same tent with his sword dripping of what looks like blood. He does this four more times to gather the first set of the Panj Pyaare (the 5 beloved). When all five people went into the tent and none of them came out, the crowd was shocked period but then one by one each of them came out fully dressed in beautiful clothing that was to be the uniform of the Khalsa. Right afterwards Guru Gobind Singh ji asked the five beloved to anoint him as one of the Khalsa. And it was at that point that he took Amrit

10:00 to answer the question, it's not just a ritual. They killed the animals in a way where 0 pain is felt (since it's instance death). This is called "jhatka", and serves many purposes. A few purposes are for meat, keep the warriors skills with sword up to par, giving the weapons blood. This is the only way meat is permissible to a Sikh, if you can't kill an animal without it feeling pain, and in an instance, you don't deserve to eat meat. Animals in farming go through extruciating pain and inhumane living conditions, and even worse is 'halal' meat where they slit the animals throat.

So, it still sort of happens when we prepare ourselves to get amrit that our head (ourselves) to guru jee......and whenever guru jee or Khalsa panth needs us to die or to do anything for the right things we should be in.......and whenever others are in need we always try to be the first to get involved, as we believe not to do wrong and not let others do as well if it effects other's lives. Giving ourselves to guru jee makes us this fearless that we do not even care to get into the most dangerous circumstances and fight for the good till our last breath. Khalsa only fears from God.

When Guru Gobind Singh Ji (The 10th Guru) lead the foundation of Khalsa, it was the time of Mughal rule in India where no one was having freedom to follow his/her faith. People of other religions were tortured very badly and then killed if anyone was not accepting Islam as their faith. So Guru ji made a sect which helps the poor and kill the tyrants. For this purpose Khalsa Panth was established and the ceremony where he called the 5 Sikhs and give their sacrifices was done to get the dedicated, strong, decision makers and helping candidates not only for Sikhism but for helping the people of other faiths as well.

Hi Melissa I get your point over blind devotion. And when 10 th guru asked for a head Sikhs already had the context of 5th and 9th guru giving their head for truth. And there were many Sikhs who sacrificed their head with 5 th and 9th guru and said we will die with you. So giving head to the true guru was not new to them.

What i would like to add is in old school days.. whatever any1 say but in wars and gurella wars .. people have to stay fit stay motivated.. marijuana was also introduced to keep urself active.. not to drunk and cant handle a sword.. in wars before modern era protein source was through some veggies and mostly meat.. nobody can carry veggies or butter all the time with them and keep it fresh too.. so goat are good.. in todays world ofcourse things are getting modern and politics is everywhere that why there are lots of group in every culture or religion.. i met many nihangs they are still in good shape (ive seen fake ones too who are sunken neck deep in materialsm) and having a chat with them energize you motivates you and leave an unknown calmness in your mind.. cheers

9:10 thats jhatka.. sikhs and hindus believe in jhatka.. not halal.. halal means as we know cut the throat and leave the animal to die in so much pain.. jhatka is simple straight forward.. people nowdays allover gets offended on everything .. humans are eating animals since its existance.. source of protein.. Eating animal is purely everyones own choice.. but killing anyone with so much pain is hard to see for many.. thats y some nihangs nowdays use guns as well.. nihangs sect eat meat.. not other baptised sikhs.. but they do there own jhatka..

The whole of the animal is used, the meat, skin etc. As a slaughter method, the death is instant. In terms of sacrifice, the martial tradition of Sikhism is to be a sacrifice to humanity, whether physically or economically. Hope this helps 😊

Not all the Nihang Singhs are non-vegetarian . There are some of the Nihang Sikhs who are Non vegetarian because they are warriors and require a heavy protein diet so they have permitted to Kill animals for food but not in a large number they are killed in a just few number and not daily . They are sacrificed only on special Occassions of Nihang Singh's.

There's 1 more reason to kill goat (I watched all the comments and can't see this). Usually it's difficult or almost impossible to watch blood or someone dying. Cutting the animal in front of all makes a person emotionally strong. The reason behind that is, if there's need for combat to save someone, the fighter should be ready to face consequences and should not hesitate during process (hesitation in between fight often cause loss/failure)

And, between the Hindus and Muslims, you will act as a bridge, and serve the poor without distinction of caste, colour, country or creed: My Khalsa shall always defend the poor, and 'Deg' - or community kitchen - will be as much an essential part of your order as Teg -the sword. And, from now onwards Sikh males will call themselves 'Singh' and women 'Kaur' and greet each other with 'Waheguruji ka Khalsa, Waheguruji ki fateh (The Khalsa belongs to the Great Guru Victory belongs to The Great Guru).”

Hi guys, The thing which comes about sacrificing animals, the full body of the animal is used here. The skin is used to make war drums of the Khalsa, The blood is used to annoint it to weapons as 10th Guru said that weapons are a form of god as they kill your enemies and keep you safe. Most people think that Sikhs are not allowed to eat meat but it is not so. Sikhs are not allowed to eat meat killed in the Muslim way called Kutha but can eat this meat known as Jhatka. Also This is done to keep the Singhs ready for war cause some scared people can't even see a drop of blood while singhs are fearless and they are ready to do this anytime. Anybody who finds this as animal slaughter, 10th Guru said that the Khalsa is the purest of the pure and by killing this animal, they provide it liberation I think this will help u 😁

Our Gurus taught to fight injustice to fight for truth , love every creature.Killing innocent is not Khalsa's way even if it is an animal but still some people practice this. Not all sikhs sacrifice lifes of animals some nihang still practice this. Most them still believe in love for all creatures.Ones we drink Amrit, when we become a Khalsa we are forbidden from killing inocent , eating meat.
