The first quote I had to jot down. I live alone as a 22 year old man, no kids, no girlfriend, no attachments. I have embraced the freedom of my life as one day I will wish for the freedom I currently have. I have learned to be my own best friend and I’m very thankful for the situation I’m in. I used to be very attached to people and possessions. Yet now I might be the loneliest I’ve ever been , but I don’t feel lonely I feel free. Embrace the freedom is what I have learned thank you for sharing these wise quotes.

Excellent video, I tend to fixate on this topic extensively. The suggestion of not overthinking about existence due to the universe not giving us the answer anyway is a great reminder to stop overthinking about it and simply just live in the present moment and enjoy it for what it is.

Yes, it is. However, there is no "living in the present moment", though is there - really? One can't stop our sense of time (outside drugs & psychedelics). This idea of living in the present can be used as is itself as an avoidance of nihilism. There is more like a sense of an ever-ongoing flow of being, "an ongoing present-presentness in flow". Acceptance of all our inner experiences - and all that our 5 senses can perceive and allow the thoughts/feelings/sensations that arise to just "be there" while engaging in a valued activity - is the primary aim of ACT. Values and Seligmans signature strengths have some similarities.

As going through a very hard time, I hardly believe if can make it through. Turning 18 less than a month ago but everything already overwhelmed me so much, starting from not fitting into social groups as a kid, the isolation during the coronavirus and losing loved ones, to the current invasion in Ukraine, where I stay in darkness with my own thoughts, constant fear, no electricity or heat for days. All these years just destroyed me, I lost any faith in myself, I feel like my most important years of growth were stolen from me as I was already vulnerable. Losing track of time, everything really just feels meaningless. To the point you don’t understand the reason of life, nothing to look forward to. Nihilism is scary but with all of this, it really looks real. Even without the struggles in life you just can’t help but question it..

You have the opportunity to be such a help to the people around you that are suffering as much or more than you are. The impact you can make in your small spot on the globe is greater than most of us will ever have a chance at. There will be plenty of time for socializing now and later perhaps not what you expected your life to be but it will come and it will be great. I don't make light of your situation. Being depressed is the most natural reaction to your situation. Find someone out there you can work with, share with. That's enough.

Better I go along doing those things that are on my TO-DO list for day. Are those things moral, effective, developmental for the future? Who's asking that? Maybe the people surrounding me, but are they feeling up and happy? Einzelgänger continues to be my favorite KZbin video. Every birth has to eventually balance with death. So enjoy everything, life is full of ups and downs but that's what makes it interesting. Like a song or a movie, it wouldn't be interesting if it was on the same note or predictable storyline. What I've learnt is that there's always a lesson to be learnt from every experience, just gotta be curious enough to sit in a boring class and also be able to enjoy the party. Whatever you do, always keep in touch with the child within U and life will always be interesting. Take care.🙂👍

As always, love the quality of your videos and your calm voice. First time I feel to comment on a video, so here goes :) One has to separate the meaning of life and the reason for living. I don't think the video examined this and mixed the two. I'll go with the title "When there's nothing left to live for". Personally as a Christian I don't build my meaning because of my religion. My religion just was the best option I saw that explained some past events, and if I suppose one day I find proof that all was a lie, I still do not see why I have "nothing to live for": I am hungry, I eat. My son needs me and love me, I love him and my wife. If I lose them, I still find joy in what I do or anything in life in the present moment. I think the key is framing and perspective without tainting it with what's not present (past events, regret, future worries...). This is why you can fill the void of "The meaning of life is [X]" with contradictory statements and it would still work. The meaning is subjective and can be anything you choose it to be, and objectively life is there and will go regardless what you think. Also, the idea of losing critical thinking just because you attribute yourself to a religion is weird. You can still belong to a religion but maybe not stick to dogmatic ways of thinking. I don't take anything for granted and have logical explanations to many questions. In fact, I have created a website called skepticfaith which I hope I'll have enough time to write all the articles on my to-do list.

Great video! No one has anything more than “this present moment.” Forget about the past unless there’s a lesson to remember. Don’t focus too far in the future because you have less control than you may think. At the same time, don’t forget that you’re creating your future right now to some, smaller degree. The best, most encouraging description I’ve heard about this is “the meaning of life is love.”

I tend put all my happiness into my "love" to the point where they become like a drug to me. And when they're not around it's hard to feel happy or satisfied. My ex left me for this reason. She told me that she realized I couldn't be happy without her and that meant I'm not happy by myself and it was draining her of energy. I miss her like crazy, but im so thankful that she helped me see that my love for her turned into an obsession. I would've never woken up if she didn't leave me. But it hurt me to learn that this wisdom came at the cost of losing my "love." I often feel like peacefulness requires a great sacrifice. Almost as if we must suffer before we can achieve peace. I'm here for taking accountability for your own mistakes but also from my own experience I can tell you that this drugy obsessive feeling is oftentimes caused because your partner is not willing to work on creating a safe place for your heart, which is to me the most vital part of a relationship. I would better recommend thinking of 'searching for a purpose' as the only thing that makes our lives meaningful. That's why we are capable of language and critical thinking. Because someone before you were sacrificing their personal individual temp life and giving up on enjoyment of a moment. Having to think deeply so that we could evolve over history from animal to human. And have a capacity ask all the hard questions and try to answer them. And the thing that 99.9% present day 'humans' use the language mistakenly and lead animal like or even worse lifestyles, shouldn't be the reason to doubt all the reality and embrace on the very animalistic lifestyles and worldviews.

I needed to watch this today. I have been struggling with this concept of finding a reason for living. I've never had a passion and have been in an emotional rut about not being satisfied with my life as I have no "purpose" to live for. But the ideas of being free explained in this video have eased my over-thinking. I am truly free, I just have to remind myself of this and take things day by day. Thank you :)

So what was the purpose of my life. I concluded the only purpose and meaning was what I gave it - same as in the video. What keeps,me from behaving badly to satisfy my needs. I found that reading Kurt Vonnegut Jr helped me get past the pain and Taoism informs me of why there is suffering. I believe we are just an electron, floating in the calm of Tao (which is a circular, so without end, Universe expanded into cold nothingness), bonded to other electrons. The illusion we are living is particles within the vibration they create. Suffering directs us to see the illusion and lose this sense of importance. That's what creates the pain. We feel owed and gypped. Peace and calm.

Found this video to be incredibly emotionally relatable, but I do think that it's important to remember that we have the power to create meaning in our lives, even in the face of nihilism. It's not easy, and it requires effort and intention, but it's possible. If we align ourselves toward our grand 'why', and continue connecting with ourselves along the journey, the momentum of our lives tends to take shape. Again, much easier said than done though. I'd say in a lot of ways our default modus operandi trends us towards nihilism, particularly if we are intellectually inclined. It takes a lot to overcome.

Meaning depends on the stories well ourselves, which may be wish fulfilment, or based on what seems most likely to be real. I personally have an uplifting (for me) story that life, or rather post-life, will ultimately transcend suffering, and we humans are just in that awkward middle-stage. So, to me, we are part of this great journey of matter, as are rocks, microbes, trilobites and dinosaurs. I'm okay being a mid-point entity. It's a tricky job but someone's got to do it. If we don't blow ourselves up, better times may be ahead for the descendants of whomever manages to survive the coming geopolitical and environmental storms. The potential to transcend suffering is there but nothing is guaranteed. I do think attempts to escape suffering are a major driving force, along with the desire for bliss.
