For anyone who comes across this video who doesn’t resonate with this with all that has happened in your life: those who suffered immense tragedy, maybe victimized as a child, or victim of a crime or struggling financially, physically, still on the bottom of Maslow’s hierarchy of needs, please know that a sense of peace does NOT have to be the place you have to achieve immediately. Honor your pain. Honor any occurances of injustice that has remained and allow your woes to be witnessed and expressed, THEN after you shed that sufficiently, watch this again to now shift your perspective. @GHØUL Muh that was your journey, I absolutely see no problem with it. You stayed in your pain for as long as you needed to be. The only thing that matters is the reality of what happened. If that event (reading the book) didn't happen, you would probably have stayed with your pain for a while more and that's ok, too. Some people take a long time to change their lives, others do it pretty quickly and there's no need to compare people's journeys. You did what you had to do in order to stay afloat, and then you found your motivation to overcome the situation. What you achieved is great, but it would have been fine if you felt you needed to stay with your pain a while longer.

I work a fairly difficult job (12 hour days, physical labor) and a co-worker asked me why I was always happy at work. I told her "Because, for me, complaining and being upset is harder than just being happy; I choose to be happy". That's not to say I don't have my moments. It gets to me sometimes and I might get upset or angry for a few minutes. The more I work on just accepting the things in my life that I encounter, the less those moments of anger happen. People may perceive problems differently, but we should still be sympathetic and supportive when someone has an experience that is a problem to them, but not to us eg breakdown of a marriage, death of a loved one, or loss of a job, for example. We need to see them seeing it as a problem as valid, and offer support, even if we don't know what that problem is like ourselves.

Having empathy is thou kind of a different topic. It's not argued here that we all "experience problems" and therefore should be empathetic to each other and supportive. But simply becoming mindful about how we handle those troubling situations and the emotions that arise with them can help tremendously. I recently rediscovered the teachings of daoism as I am suffering through a break up. I have never found as much value out of meditation ever before. I do allow the grief to fully take me over when it arises. But it is coming with a feeling of hopelessness that I struggled to get out from. Simply sitting still and allowing myself to do the very basic first step of noticing my thoughts and returning to my breath helped me so much to get back some sence of peace and ground myself and remind myself that this moment that caused that pain already passed and I am now already in the process off accepting my new presence.

If the mind is an _excellent_ *servant* then why do so many people lose control so easily? & what is this about a _poor master_ ? Robin Sharma mentions this old proverb in his book 'The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari' . "see *through* the mind" ? You can't see through a mirror & all you can do, is _attempt_ to control your mind (after all, it's yours for a life-time). Without a mind, one cannot discriminate one thing from another; nor can one see, hear, taste, or smell anything, Mr. Meditation-breath.

I'm not saying that people have weak minds; rather, many of us don’t fully utilize our minds' potential. Developing the mind requires intentional practice, just as individuals must work to build self-awareness and self-control. Without conscious engagement, the mind can easily become reactive, letting emotions take the lead rather than directing them with intention. I'm not suggesting that people have weak minds, nor do I believe I'm smarter or better than anyone else. I'm simply sharing insights that have helped me better understand myself and gain mastery over my thoughts and actions. My hope is to inspire others to explore these same practices, empowering them to cultivate a deeper connection with their own minds and gain greater control over their lives.

The servant cried that he had just encountered Death, who had threatened him. He begged his master to give him his fastest horse so that he could make haste and flee to Teheran, which he could reach that same evening. The master consented and the servant galloped off on the horse. On returning to his house the master himself met Death, and questioned: “Why did you terrify and threaten my servant?” Death answered: “I did not threaten him; I only showed surprise in still finding him here, because I planned to meet him tonight in Teheran.”

The Buddha said “ the beginning of wisdom is to call things by their proper names.” I think this relates to the two truths in this video. We live in a subjective reality based on our own interpretations of ourselves and the world around us. Others see us through their interpretation of reality which could be quite different or unimaginable to us. There is an objective reality we can only perceive by encountering the uncompromising reality of death. Even then many avoid that by constructing a fantasy that shields them from accepting that ultimate reality. That’s where we get religion, belief in ghosts or the fantasy that some beloved celebrity never really died. The truth or objective reality is always there like the stars in the daytime. They are there but we can’t see them as our ego based reality like the sun blots it out. I know for a fact that many people think the stars only exist at night while any amount of logical thought would tell you that is ridiculous. In fact it’s childish thinking focusing only on what you can or cannot see while your mind can tell you the truth. Even understanding this does not allow you to see the stars in the daytime. Logic tells you they are there even if you can’t see them. This is how we should think of objective reality even though we can never actually see it.

Yes. Change it from seeing a problem. To excel at something. One comes from a negative place of energy. While the other comes from a positive place of energy. To say someone or something is a problem is essentially looking down and demeaning a person. When you tell a new intern or worker there is something to improve upon and excel at it. It is different wording but the intent is completely different. It produces enormous different results.
@presianvasilev99532 жыл бұрын
Precisely. It's all about the mindset one has and how he perceives things. We cannot control the external world and the occupying feelings that are generated by our senses, however we can choose how to react. I used to have a very negative view towards 'problems' and 'issues'. Now I just see them as opportunities to grow, expand and get better. :)

This reminds me of the movie "Paterson" that is very dear to me. The main character of the same name is calm and content and works as a bus driver. One day the bus has an electrical breakdown, not a big deal, it just stops. When he calls the main office to report the "problem," he says, "I have a situation." Other passengers and people who weren't involved in the indicent dramatically comment that the bus could have exploded into a fireball. Also, the short conversations between Paterson and his ever-complaining colleague are quite representative of the different attitudes and wordings. Both scenes are included in the trailer.

For the past two days I've been stressing about a potential reproach I might get from my boss next week, and how that might escalate. It hasn't happened yet, and I don't even know if it will, yet in my head I've already painted the worse case scenario and tortured myself with it. It went to the point that I couldn't sleep, I cried several times, I complained to my boyfriend for two days and even snapped at him for no reason. I even started planning what I'll do in case I get fired. It's sad and ridiculous at the same time. Sometimes we are our own worst enemy...

Taking the ‘drug’ thing a step further, we can also dissolve our problems from eating properly and (most importantly) exercise. If we don’t do this first it can be really difficult to get the full benefits from meditation because we’re fighting against our faulty brain chemistry. That’s why in Ashtanga yoga (for example) it is recommended to become very physically fit by doing a vigorous asana practice before beginning meditation. Hope this comment helps someone!

Worrying about problems we don't have, but could, is a gift from our intelligence. Other animals don't have very good brains, but we do, and we took over the planet because of it. The real problem is worrying about something, not doing anything about it, and then worrying some more.

I'm so glad that I found your channel! I have been looking all over the internet and even on KZbin on how to resolve a problem at work. I've been having problems with my employer, his son and one employee (she's interested in the boss's son). Anyhow, M and G are very rude, condescending, and use various of us employees and me as "dumping bad/negative experience bins" -- in other words they talk about themselves all the time and drop off their personal and professional problems on us. And the father (the employer does the same to the higher-ups) which is really annoying! I was searching up "Am I perceiving work problems as reality, or are these problems being created in my mind" And here I am. After a couple of hours of meditation, and thirty minutes of talking to the other employees I realized my mind it's not making up these problems. These three people are literary the ones causing discomfort. I am looking for a new job right now. Thank you Einzelgänger for sharing these insightful videos!

The more I think about these philosophical concepts, the more I feel that you cannot solve many human struggles such as excessive worrying by rationalising it away. These feelings will not go away by simply offering sound reasoning for why they are unnecessary and illogical. Your mind doesn’t care about that and is, to a large extent, governed by (irrational) emotion.
@martymcfly64112 жыл бұрын
Not the problems themselves but your reaction to them. It takes practice. It's training that makes the difference. Just like language is training. It's not about what's most natural or easiest It's about, what do u want and are u willing to make the effort to change. The rate at how fast somone will accomplish this goal will boil down to many factors. Some people are more lost than others.
@plantmama74422 жыл бұрын
That’s a story you’re telling yourself. You can solve excessive worrying if you want to. Your inner reality is in your control, your emotions are 100% in your control. And of course it won’t be easy, but I know you can do it !!!! Good luck. It isn’t over yet !!
@ethanstump2 жыл бұрын
that's why external training and substances are needed to give ourselves a break from these things. however, due to the use of the wrong training and substances and the misuse and abuse of the right substances and training, many are pushed past the breaking point. we can't get rid of these worries, and it would be undesirable to do so, due to them being useful in certain harmful situations. that being said, we can reduce them to the minimum required, through the use of training and use of correct substances. the question i wonder is, is how do you differentiate excessive worrying from useful worrying? as someone who has suffered from severe moments of psychosis, this is a question that has had quite an impact on my life.
@gogee272 жыл бұрын
@@ethanstump I feel the difference between excessive and useful worrying is like this: Excessive worrying comes from a restless mind that seeks drama, it's often very abstract and creates scenarios that don't relate to the situation at hand. Useful worrying comes from another "place," let's call it intuition, that is calmer, it has a neutral or positive notion to it and gives you very concrete advice, like the nagging feeling whether you should go back and check if you locked the door (when you really forgot to) or when you take an umbrella to be prepared for rain (if the weather is unstable). Here's an example: I recently went on a walk while my washing machine was running. Suddenly, I felt this impulse to go back home (earlier than I normally would have). It was calm and clear, not dramatizing. When I got back, I realized that the washing machine had a lack and water had run out. So I could take care of it before the damage got bigger. It was perfect timing. Also, I think it's a learning process, and things like meditation, relaxing music, being in nature or quiet activities that do you good can help to get a better "access" to your intuition. And to enjoy life more, of course :).
@stoictaoist85532 жыл бұрын
@@gogee27 you're defining wu wei but using it to explain worrying. You and the washing machine were one thus your sensation to go home came from you feeling what the washing machine felt. Wu wei can't be defined it's like describing to me how you grew your bones to get to your current height or how you grew your teeth to the length each individual tooth is. It just happened. We worry because we can. That's it no big puzzle to be solved simply come to the conclusion that you can do something about it or you can't either way the choice to worry is just that. I recommend proper diet and exercise to burn off nervous energy then one will find they worry less because they have less energy with which to do so. Or not. We get to choose the nature of our respective realities. Either way I'm glad your washer didn't break because then you'd have to worry about getting a new one or fixing it

@TAROTAI2 жыл бұрын
It's not a _philosophy_ to be *subjective* . In your case, you have been lucky in various circumstances, as you don't need money & you *always* seem to have a silver lining, despite all odds against you - this is not a philosophy; it's a condition of circumstance.
@chrismuratore44512 жыл бұрын
Fair point. Although, objectively speaking, I doubt anyone would see any of my circumstance as lucky per se. It was more so a lot of focused effort on my part to learn to live a minimalist lifestyle and to not allow the heaviness of things I can't control to weight life down.

No that’s true, middle class liberals have this problem a lot, viewing things like sweatshops and child labour as problems and then trying to outlaw them. When this happened in Bangladesh millions of kids had to turn to prostitution and the ones who didn’t starved to death. When sweatshops get banned because of pressure from 1st world middle class liberals, sweatshop workers are forced to go back to doing hard backbreaking agricultural work. This is because these people are sheltered middle class liberals and are viewing the world from their perspective. Unfortunately they are not on the ground in these countries to see what’s going on in real life.
