In 1981 computer engineer Masayuki Kato created Nihon Falcom Corporation, a company that would go on to practically invent the action RPG and JRPG genres with the Dragon Slayer series. Not only did Falcom lead the way in innovation with the development of these games for PC gaming, but they also cultivated a wealth of talent that would go on to create other amazing RPG series and even internationally acclaimed anime movies.
This video broadly discusses many of Falcom's RPG franchises that mostly spawned from Dragon Slayer. I talk about why I think Falcom has been able to survive in the games industry for as long as they have, the company's public image, and how they take a very different approach from much bigger companies in the development of their own games.

Falcom's biggest strength is that they maintain a development cycle that manages to create a good game each year. Their only issue is that their games are very niche. With so few people, they manage a good plot/story, good gameplay, good OST, good presentation, and decent graphics. I think they should sell more than they do, they deserve it.

Best way to make people look in their direction is word of mouth honestly So let’s get to talking about them!

with all the insane buyouts and studio closures these days, i can see the games industry slowly going into Falcom's model of 'indie' budgeting of games, and focusing on consistent output instead of trying to chase the golden goose of viral AAA live service that prints money eternally

I'm a Ys fan before getting into trails, I loved Ys games because their godsend osts that make me think: if they can make ys music so great, maybe I should try their other flagship franchise, and then everything is history. Falcom made me their slave, buying their every game no matter is ys, trails or xanadu...and I also start to buy both jp and eng version of the games because first I have 0 patience of wait for localization, and second, want to have another copy of English version to experience again in another language. As for trails, this is the closest thing to a long-running Shonen anime series I got to play and felt the immersion of the world. In trails you can find all kinds of battle Shonen anime/manga tropes: fans arguing about who is the strongest, power level doesn't make sense, fan service, nobody dies in story, plot holes, etc. I say like this not because I dislike these traits,I LOVE Shonen anime tropes, I love one piece, naruto, bleach, dragon ball, jojo, these old school ones, and trails gave me literally everything. and a lot of them I saw it from a anime show I loved, a grandiose world like one piece, certain plot points in naruto(notably, Rean's obssesion with Crow or Joshua/Estelle/Loewe relationship), structure in jojo(each parts got a new group of main characters with old characters show up to play important roles). what else I need? I'm going to follow falcom until the end of earth....I decided...

The Moonlight Witch was released on the PSP by Konami (as with Song of the Ocean and Tears of Vermillion), while I wouldn't call it good English, it's playable. So we did get that entire set of games with crappy localization.
