You know who this would be PERFECT for? Systems Administrators (SysAdmins). Rather than lugging a full-sized laptop everywhere to be able to (1) Open a VPN connection to the office, (2) run an SSH terminal, (3) open a Database management tool, (4) open the "console" for Amazon Web Services (or any other Cloud Provider), (5) access the company Git/Mercurial repository, and (6) hold Skype/GHangout/Discord calls, a SysAdmin can simply put this ... gadget in their purse, and be off and about doing things. (The 6 things above _can_ be done through a tablet... but... well, one also _can_ have root canal surgery without anesthetics...) Hmmm...... Let's see if I can convince the beancounters in my office to shell out some moolah for this "Portable Systems Administration Terminal" device :-D

Gave a good impression of what it can do. And yes, the keyboard. I don't know what it is about computer makers that when they make a laptop, they suddenly think they can make a keyboard all by themselves. "Let's get creative! @NihongoGamer 8:56 No, that's probably not what's happening. It starts the fan while plugged in likely because it's set to passively cool on battery, and thus save battery life. On the charger, power consumption is considered not an issue, so it just starts up the fan to keep the temperatures cooler, and the laptop running better overall. If you'd like to check, right-click on the battery icon, Power Settings, Change Plan Settings, Change Advanced Power Settings, Processor Power Management, and finally System Cooling Policy.

The fan activates when you plug in the power because it allows the processor to go full power. With full power the fan activates to keep the processor cool. When not plugged in, it uses passive cooling and the processor will never reach maximum potential. This is a common thing with laptops etc.

@twomorestars7 жыл бұрын
while charging it might warm up the battery a little, if your battery is charged plugging in the laptop will not make it run worse - the reason the fan turns on is actually keeping it cooler. The OS is keeping the fan off when not plugged in to save battery power but this will potentially throttle the CPU and also cause the computer to actually run warmer. It essentially raises the temperature that it will turn the fans on. Its passive cooling vs active cooling - when plugged in the PC uses active cooling which is better for performance but worse for battery life (which doesnt matter on wall power).

I definitely would buy it. I'm sitting here with a 15 inch notebook and its too heavy and too unportable for a notebook. I thought of a tablet 7 inch or maybe 8 inch, but the most tablets in this price section are very low at quality or running Android which is not what I want. So this might be the best option for me, but 500$ + shipping to germany costs too much for my use.

It probably ups the fans when plugged in because it can spare the power to push the fans as fast as possible, where unplugged it was trying to conserve power by running the fans less. Playing plugged in should be the better experience.
@NihongoGamer7 жыл бұрын
+Darrow Nemecek-Gulack That's what i thought too, but I think the thermal throttling is pretty this so even battery charging alone is causing the fans to come on
@hmoham7 жыл бұрын
It usually runs at a lower clock speed when on batteries, so it doesn't produce as much heat, when plugged in, the CPU will ramp upto the maximum 2.5Ghz clock speed thus producing more heat. It's pretty much the case with most laptops/notebooks.

Hi, it is my first time watching your vid. I don't know why ur in my suggested feed but I'm glad I saw your channel. I was about to buy it but I bought a different windows tablet instead. I bought the Bestbuy's insignia 11.6" flex. it has 2gb ram, z8300 processor, detachable magnetic keyboard like surface, 32gb storage +microsd slot for $190 refurbished. It was my best purchase because it became my streaming device. My gaming pc and my ps4 is in the living room. When there are people there or I want to play on my bed, I stream my gameplay and I was able to finish Nier automata, tales of berseria, and some telltale games all at 60fps at full 1080p and on wifi. I was also able to remote play persona 5 and horizon zero dawn on it and there are no slowdowns at all at 720p full frames. Another bonus is it is my Netflix offline viewing device. Sure, it defeats the purpose of "portability" because of connectivity issues but it can play games.

think of it as an MSV with a better screen and a more functional UI and this becomes quite an attractive package, although it would also depend on external SSDs, multi card readers, ... i wonder if it can be an effective live viewer for drones or gimbal sticks? Just to clarify, I doubt the computer gets hotter when it plugs into wall power. While its true the CPU might "unlock" or switch to a "non-mobile mode" (which would be hotter), I think it's more likely that the fan is simply set to run at full speed when on wall power, to ensure the CPU never heats up, since you have wall power available. Even if the CPU ran faster and heated up on wall-power, when it throttles and brings the clock speed back down it'd still be faster than battery power mode. The full-speed fan would essentially keep it at a higher clock-speed per degree of heat, the throttling temperature would be running at a higher clock speed. So plugging it into the wall should average out to even or better performance.
