One of my favorite things about this video: it's clear that Reznor is a huge fan, and has infinite respect for Numan. He's not trying to hone in and split the singing, put himself in the spotlight with Numan; he's at the keyboard, playing as part of the band while Gary is up front singing. True respect, from one consummate musician to another.

What got me was watching that crowd going bananas to Cars. I spoke with Gary outside of Irving Plaza in NYC about 20 years ago, and he said, "It just surprises me that anyone even remembers who I am." That was genuine humility. I think I said something like, "What do you mean? You're fucking Gary Numan!' It was something like that. Anyway, he gave me a little furtive smile. He deserves to see a whole new generation going apeshit over his music. It's as great today as it was then. Timely. And timeless.

Trent stepped up, gave him props, acknowledged his contribution and influence to NIN, and then stepped back into the background and let Gary Numan have his moment, How many premeir headliner artists hand over the spotlight and hope they get upstaged? And truth be told, the tambourine is usually handled by a stage hand or as a space filler when the instrument is at rest. Kind of like an extra in a movie. Big props to Trent Reznor for Letting a legend have his stage and his spotlight for a moment and doing the grunt work for the cause of making Gary Numans moment better. 2 sweaty men hugging is usually gay, but not this time, ha ha.
