Sake made in Niigata often has a different taste from sake made in other regions. It is called 淡麗辛口"Tanrei Karakuchi,'' and although it is sometimes said to have a bland taste, the people of Niigata love it.

Hey guys, Hope this message finds you well. Harriet and I visited Niigata about 8 years ago. Love it for its climate and temperature. And certainly, it's fresh sashimi . We were warned by our tour guide at the time to stay away from sashimi in vending machines. The best was in the fish markets. Always, fresh. Your tour of Niigata hit all the right notes. Thank you for sharing. We want to wish you guys and your family a Happy, Healthy and Safe New Year 2024. We are along for this wonderful ride. Hugs🫂 and Kisses💋 from Harriet, Jim and Yuki

Happy New Year! You and Harriet have really been all over the globe. Week after week I'm surprised by how many of the same destinations we have visited - and some are on the lesser-known side. I hope you two had a Merry Christmas and wishing you only the best in 2024. 😊🎉🥂

I just got back from our 1st Japan trip with my family. Already miss it. Your new series on Japan is tempting me for our next visit. I would love to visit other areas Japan has to offer. We hit Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka and Hakone. We barely scratched the surface. Thanks for your Peru vids as well, haven't been back to my birth country in over 20 years. I definitely need to go back. Have a happy and adventurous New Year!

I'm glad to hear you had a nice time in Japan. Who knows, maybe Peru will be your next trip?! We were just talking last night about how we miss going to Peru, it's been a couple of years since our last visit.

Ooooh, vending machines serving red wine - that would be a hit!! 🍷😊 And maybe a little platter of cheese while we're at it. I think people would be missing their trains for sure! 😅 Wishing you a happy new year, Sabrina!

Sake means alcohol, any in general. Nihonshu is what you were drinking, japanese rice wine. Except the very sweet 111 is umeshu which is plum wine :)

Totally starstruck that you replied!! One day I hope to see frozen sushi on a "worst things we've ever eaten" compilation 🤢🤠 Safe and tasty travels guys 💼⭐👍
Perhaps I would have already seen it if I scrolled down farther but #111 is Umeshu (梅酒) plum wine which tends to be sweet.
@samuelandaudrey8 ай бұрын
So it turns out maybe I don't like sake, I'm just into the plum wine! 😅 The stuff we tried in Otaru and one of the drinks from the vending machines was so smooth and sweet like a honey syrup.

So you were going to the Japanese Alps after? "Fun fact" if famous Kamikochi was part of the plan : the Azusa river from there ends up joining with a bunch of other rivers to make up the Shinano river, Japan's longest, the river whose mouth you were looking at from the Befco Bakauke Observation Deck in Niigata (🙄...) That sushi looked absolutely epic. Thanks guys, and have a brilliant 2024

Fun fact, all fish for sushi needs to be frozen prior to eating to kill any possible parasites. You would never want to eat raw fresh caught fish. At least -4°F for 7 days, or -31°F for 24hrs.
