👍Your description of how to perform the forward loop was all well done and worth watching again, and I could see how much lighter the boards have become making it far easier to perform actions like those.

Your description whilst in the process of performing the forward loop was all done in perfect timing which made it very clear to those who haven't attempted it themselves yet, and also helped anyone who knew it already to improve the routines of the actions.

Great commitment to learn on flat water! Will be so much easier with some ramps! I've struggled because I was told to look at the clue when you pull the trigger but that made the fear worse not seeing where I was going. I need to get back into trying them.

Hi Will, put the backhand back on the boom in order to have a side rotation and more control

Great encouragement for me Will! I can chop hop pretty consistently and also launch off my planing board with sail forward and across (deliberate catapult). But I'm struggling to pull the trigger while in the air and straps. Not much windy surfing days this year so my progress has been low. Your vid boost my motivation! Would love to see more of your fwd loop progress!

Excellent! Reminds me of someone 😉 ! Where is your pop in your attempts? You gotta release the board by sheeting out and sending your boom way high. I know it takes some commitment but you can either do it farther downwind or in less wind. Good job with the video and explanations!

Firstly, really surprising that you hadn't learnt this move when you can do so many other moves. I've just started to land them, landed three in total :) and I fully support wearing an impact vest. The back slaps are just unnecessary painful without it. Also, I think, as you said, getting over the fear _and_ making practicing the forwards part of your normal session is a huge difference maker. For me, doing the "four step" process that Josep Pons (and others) use, helps a lot. Then there is no really scary moments. Last crucial thing for me was to curl into a ball while spinning. That made the spin faster and helped me land the first one.

Good tips, thanks! Yeah, a few people have suggested the Josep Pons video so I’ll take a look and see where I can improve.

Great work! I think you need to get a bit more pop and air off some chop and then pull the back foot up tighter, pull more on the back hand and twist hard and forward into it. You’ve got it!

@@willnicholls5 I just started windsurfing. Well...going on season 4. Catching some air. Now I gotta get the nuts to throw the forward. Struggling with strap config a bit. Sometimes getting stuck or too loose and coming out, which hurts. What straps are you using? Dakine Tyrant?
@willnicholls5
@willnicholls5 22 күн бұрын
I'm just using the standard issue JP straps that came with the board. I have my straps set with a slight pinch at the bottom and then make them big enough so it's easy to get my whole foot in and out.

Hey Will As a keen looper myself this video was painful to watch as iv been there myself. While the speed loop is difficult to do off flat water i feel doing repeated barrel rolls will help you get over the fear but only create bad technique. Forward loops are all about where you look and sail movement, and most important above everything else is moving your back hand way down the boom without doing this it’s just a recipe to hurt yourself. Good luck with the journey 🤙🏻

Thanks Will for a clear and motivating video. I've been trying for years but can't get over my fear. How much should I be afraid of hurting myself or breaking equipment?
@willnicholls5
@willnicholls5 29 күн бұрын
I didn’t have any experience of damaging equipment which was good because I was also nervous about doing that. The first few backslaps (or 15) will probably sting, about the same as someone slapping a bare hand on your back which is why I recommend the impact vest but as you get better the pain is less and less. The worst backslaps I had were from when I let go of the boom so now I really make sure that I hold onto the boom. You may well have already tried this but you can do various pre-training exercises (shown in videos from GetWindsurfing, Windsurfing.TV, Josep pons and more on YT) which might help with getting you in the right head space and build up to eventually “pull the trigger” but for me at least I found that eventually there’s just a leap of faith moment where you don’t hold back and on the other side of that moment you realise that all the fear is all in your head. Good luck 🤙

This summer I spent less than 10 sessions (10 days) really dedicated to learning the loop but it was also off the foundation of windsurfing for 10 years and learning quite a few freestyle moves which certainly helped. In the past I had a few sessions where I tried going for the loop but gave up when I didn’t progress or if I injured myself and became discouraged.
@gaborparlagh8378
@gaborparlagh8378 Ай бұрын
You made the same very common mistakes than me. Only the last loop looked like a forward, all the others are trash, or very cheese roll way! You need to OPEN the sail, and move the mast sideways into the wind (across your body), that adds rotating power to the gear. Sheeting in comes later. Most of the footage in this video shows the opposite, pushing the mast away from the wind, leaning the sail backwards, and sheeting in. This technique sucks, and with that you can never ever reach the real rotation, and you will get always under rotated. Trust me, I am still struggling with my muscle memory, because I practiced this wrong way for too long. The best forward teaching video I guess is kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYSUo4yHfpJ9Z6s I do not know it links are allowed, the title here in YT is "Windsurf Guru Andy Brandt Teaching the Forward Loop" Also check advice from Ben Proffitt and Josep Pons

again with this narrative of the trigger, fear, etc. It's not. With the right tecnique and a good instructor, fear is not a issue. Learning the fwd is not yes-or-no, black-or-white, rather a progressive step by step path.
