I love this military music, but why is a band member holding what looks like the Eagle Symbol used by the 3rd Reich?

That's a Schellenbaum or turkish crescent and ain't got anything to do with the nazis. It was once used as a musical instrument in the ottoman army and some were captured by the habsburgs in the wars against the turks as a trophies it and then also used by German military bands. That's were the Eagle and the Prussian police star come from. Originally it was just the crescent shape with little bells with several tails according to the status of the owner. However since you can't hear the little bells with all the brass instruments the Schellenbaum quickly became something of like a company colours of german musikkorps since at least the middle of the 19th century.
