The moment I step my foot in it, 2 things I noticed immediately which makes me decide to return: 1) the lace whole pokes my foot bone uncomfortably bc the very thin tongue; 2) when I try to walk, the plastic guard is not that forgiving, and when it's bend, the whole plastic just pushing pressing the top of my foot.

I grabbed a pair the day the came out. I just happened to be coincidentally needing a pair of shoes the day they came out and the react tech intrigued me. I was so disappointed though! I felt like the laces pulled on the top of my feet to keep heavy blocks suspended below them. Nothing about the shoe made me want to play tennis in them let alone walk down the street! I SO BADLY wish Nike would bring back the aircourt ballistec line. That was their best tennis shoe line ever IMO
@FootDoctorZach3 жыл бұрын
The ballistic was an awesome shoe for sure- I’m not really sure where Nike was coming from with these to be honest- i think they really have something with the flyweave but that elastic is just a feeling like you are dragging the shoe along - hopefully improvements on the next model

I have a cool video idea. Not sure how this would really play out but here it is nonetheless. Get a P.O. Box, randomly pick a comment and have them send you an old pair of shoes that’s been worn down. Then do your shoe break down on that pair and how that shoe is either hurting that player, what shoe would be better for them, and maybe even guess what kind of player they are based on the markings/worn down parts. It would be really cool to see a worn down shoe breakdown.

Thanks glad you like the channel! It wasn’t really anything to do with width/ the shoe expands just fine to fit most feet/ just the placement of the elastic on the vamp makes the shoe really hard to pull along - doesn’t feel like it’s “giving” you anything

I'm late to this, but tennis shoes in general will not be good for volleyball. Aside from not having enough impact protection for repeated jumping, the grip isn't designed for indoor courts. There are some actual volleyball shoes that are good from Mizuno and Asics, but in general, basketball shoes are the way to go.

Agree with the lacing cutting into the top of the foot, I couldn’t get my feet locked in without experiencing pain. I expected the REACT foam to behave similarly as in its running cousin Infinity REACT, Wildhorse 6 or the new Pegasus trail which is plush but highly reactive and alive in a good way (awesome energy return) I was looking for some forgiveness from the hardcourt surfaces I play on. Thanks to your vid I know why, this pair has minimal REACT foam. why use react more in the shank area rather than the impact zone of the shoe like the heal baffles me. it was a promising shoe perhaps the 2nd iteration. and perhaps ZOOM X in a tennis shoe. Good question- probably KSwiss Ultrashot 3 would be the closest, in terms of weight the adidas Stycon but those play completely different - no its a molded heel so there’s minimal slippage if any, but you do move in that elastic tongue

Those laces digging into the top of the foot .... that’s a problem with lots of shoe designs for tennis it seems. It’s a paradox - if I don’t tie the laces super-tightly, then the upper moves around and gives me a motion rash/vs if I tie the laces tightly, the lace digs in and gives me a motion rash. Makes me want my old 2000s Adidas Barricades back ... never a problem with those.
@FootDoctorZach3 жыл бұрын
Yep it really is a no-win situation - that’s part of the reason I love the eclipsions / some of the other more padded tongues and vamps- in tennis you really need support/ padding in that area

Nike “NXT” models, in basketball, have always been minimalistic, fast shoes. Odd to see an NXT be a relatively heavy here. Disappointing too, as I was excited when I heard about a potential stripped down, speedier Cage 4, which are just too cumbersome to me. Do you feel these NXTs are quicker around court than the Cage 4s? And/or, would love to hear your comparison between these NXTs & the KSWISS Ultrashot 2s
@FootDoctorZach3 жыл бұрын
So they are more low profile than the 4’s but I found them clunkier to move around in because it was harder to carry the weight - I’d probably go w the ultrashots over them, especially the new 3’s which are similar but with a better closure

@davelee60023 жыл бұрын
I would have expected this shoe to be lighter than usual with the flyweave and minimal tongue. It's too bad that they couldn't find a balance between weighty durability features and lightened uppers. You mentioned the lateral stability structures, but did you actually find it to be laterally stable during the suicide test? It sounded like the softer upper "dragging" feeling didn't help with feeling agile. Also, I highly doubt those stability fins will protect at all with most sprains. They're just their for lateral containment.
@FootDoctorZach3 жыл бұрын
They kept the shoe straight up and down but the foot was still able to move around in the shoe- the plastic shark fins do a nice job of stopping the shoe from twisting externally which does contain some spraining mechanisms especially in the mid foot but with that less twisting of the shoe comes more internal movement of the foot in the shoe itself because of the elastic tongue and vamp which just really makes the shoe unplayable a lot of the time
@pranav-nandakumar3 жыл бұрын
How much more heavy does this shoe feel in comparison to the cage 4 because it is only 0.2 ounces heavier. Is 0.2 ounces heavier a lot for shoes?
@FootDoctorZach3 жыл бұрын
It feels a lot heavier because the tongue is so thin it’s just harder to pull the shoe along - the VC4 was continuous so the shoe would move with you a bit more

Another amazing review, loved your episode on the functional tennis podcast! A quick question, what is the width like of these shoes? I currently have the Vapor Pro and have pretty wide feet but they are still a bit roomy, much preffered the Vapor X. Looking at getting these as I got a hole from sliding on the medial side of my vapour pros wishing a month.

I can't find a good fit personally. I ordered them online. I'm normally a 10.5 and I have some Nike running shoes (10.5) that fit like a glove. Anyways I decided to order them in size 10 and it was a horrible fit, way too big and loose. I ordered the 9.5 and it still couldn't find a snug fit. The back of my ankles slide out every time I get on the balls of my feet. Really dissapointed here. May try 9's but honestly dont even really think its worth it at this point, it could just be that the tongue just doesnt really allow for a snug fit.
@FootDoctorZach3 жыл бұрын
Yep- it’s just not a well engineered ankle collar - it will allow slipping even if you go down sizes

Really glad I stocked up on a bunch of Vapor Xs for the days when I play on synth grass (durability is less of an issue there, I use the solecourt boost on hardcourts) Always had a feeling that Nike might mess up with the successor. But I guess I have enough pairs to hold me out until they make something better (or I can just look to other brands in the meantime, really wanna check out the Solution Speed FF 2s)

Yeah the SSFF2 is very similar to the X except for the outsole where I like the X a lot more

Would this be a good shoe for someone who moves very quickly and aggressively and slides alot on hardcourt? I go through shoes very quickly so I need durable shoes but I also like to be fast and light on my feet. Any suggestions?
@FootDoctorZach3 жыл бұрын
Not IMO, i talk about this specific thing in the video - there really aren’t many light weight durability shoes, best I’d say is the Asics court ff2 that splits the difference

These shoes are listed as 15.8 oz and Gp turbo is listed as 16.2 oz. Why do you make such a big deal about the weight of these ones when you give so much praise to gp turbo?
@FootDoctorZach3 жыл бұрын
Because the GP turbo has the weight in better engineered areas and it gives much better energy return from steric stance , the NXT has all the weight in the midsole and none in the upper so it’s balance is off causing problems with push off- same reason a head light racket that’s heavy often feels lighter than a head heavy racket of the same weight
@atilayyerkal3 жыл бұрын
@@FootDoctorZach thank you for the answer! I get what you mean but I think I'll still give these a try. I had some traction issues with air zoom zeros so I couldn't warm up to gp turbo after that but nxt looks like it offers more stability so I think it will be a better match for me.

I got the white pair and my socks were staining the top of the fly weave. Also, within two months I have burned through the sole. You also can’t slide into these shoes. The sole in the shoes when I got them slid up and I had to super glue it into my shoes. In my view, don’t buy a 160$ pair and find something that is light.

Ultimate nike tennis shoe comparison??
@sichinawa3 жыл бұрын
Narrow fit and ground instability. You can feel a high platform under your feet, but it is unstable and unsafe. If you are using double socks, wearing these shoes will be a challenge. I think this is the answer to adidas shoes without laces from Nike.
@FootDoctorZach3 жыл бұрын
That’s a man interesting thought about the Nike v adidas - I agree with everything
@shaydelgado3 жыл бұрын
I have this & it looks fancy & feels very durable but this shoe is quite narrow, hard & heavy. It also takes work to put them due to the slip-in design. If speed is one of your best assets, I'd look away.
