I just got these and played in them this morning. Traction is incredible, padding is very nice in forfoot and heal. They are also very light and help me to be taller and faster. I now have a great shoe to play in for sure.

If you’re a guard these are great , the Gt cut 3’s are kyries with hella cushion . They feel great . Especially if you’re an explosive player . You get to the basket quick and landings are very soft on your knees. I wouldn’t recommend these for bigs .

The takedown model that I really liked was the takedown huarache 2k4. I had two pair of low tops back in the day. All black with white stitching and white/black/red. I wore them out pushing carts at target. Wish they’d bring them back

I agree with Mrs. wing 100% the academy is meant to onboard people that are apprehensive of the Cut 3s (or any expensive hoop shoe really) but that’s not necessarily bad because I also recognize that the Cut 3 would likely be the better overall shoe for me when they’re on a very good sale at least 😂

Was walking through the famous sneaker st area in hong kong just as this vid dropped and saw three colourways of the academy whilst watching the review... well i just had to try them on along with the cut 3. Not much in it from the instore try on, would be hard pressed to pick them in a blindfold situation. Fit of the academy was kinder on my widefoot and closer to thebm cut 2 that i have.

So is this the new Air Max Impact? $95 shoe with a comparable setup than a lot of mid-tier signatures? Also interesting is that it uses the same Zoom bag as the Gianni 5 and Ja 1, but just vertical. I'd be interested to know the margins for Nike on the single rectangle bag vs the heel Air Max in the impact, because with Nike cost-cutting and downgrading the tech for shoes this year, this might be the better money maker than the Impact 4. Regardless, I think that this might a great pair of everydays too, as well as a good out door/shootaround pair.

Nike has been using “academy” in their soccer cleats for a while. There’s the “Elite” with top tier materials that athletes wear, “Pro” that a slight take down in upper materials, then the “academy” with cheapest materials used. Not familiar with the cushioning, but I’d assume there’s slight differences

I like these, i think the zoom placement is a miss but i like that they went the soccer way. Nike soccer line is like the top end model and all the takedowns are the same thing but with lesser materials and price instead of being a completely different shoe just cheaper (ie lebron-soilder[rip]-witness/ambasador, kd-trey5, freak-inmortality, kyrie-low-flytrap[rip], etc). Also the 80$ soccer shoes are also called the “academy” tier (elite>pro>academy).

This was such an disheartening thing to hear TT... I was thinking about buying the GT cut 3s. Now I don't know if I should go for them or not. I hated playing in the LeBron NXXT gens because of the hard phylon midsole (even with zoom air on both forefoot and the heel it's still not soft after a year of playing in them) and mediocre traction on dust, I had to wipe every 30 seconds... In addition to not supportive enough upper which made my foot fall off the footbed on hard cuts. I wonder if buying the GT cut 3s will help me resolve that issue...

The GT Cut 3 forefoot looks as grippy as a track shoe on concrete. I think I’ll just settle with the Academy……if the resellers don’t snatch them. They look more reliable & stable, not sure about all of that cushion in the heel in the 3.
