If you are not getting joy out of a shoe there you are likely not going to use it or not look forward to putting them on and heading out the door. Your review hits the nail on the head while remaining subtle in doing so. Thanks!

Thank you so much for this review Barry. I was very tempted to buy this shoe but given your review and comparison to other shoes I've decided against it. I've got the Brooks Hyperion Max and it has a lot of life left in it too so will keep running in those shoes for now. Really enjoyed your in depth review.

Interesting review, I do not own any Nike at the moment but always good to see what they are doing , I am enjoying the hyperion range at the moment (even using the Glycerin 21 for recovery) after ignoring Brooks for years they got my attention with the hyperion max which I enjoyed as an alternative non plated shoe to the speed 3. The line has replaced the endorphin 3 shoes I trained and raced in last year for my standard rotation

I have to confess to being tempted when I saw the lineup on Brooks website...but with lots of miles left in my Hyperion Max will likely wait for the Max 3...

Ah so the Brooks “hype” on certain channels has some semblance of truth then :) I tried the Hyperion from 2020 but found them a bit wide for me and lot firmer than ZoomX which isn’t necessarily a bad thing.
@JohnBirtchetSharpe5 ай бұрын
The glycerin 21 does the job .. but so would loads of other comfortable recovery/ walking type shoes. The shoe that really works for me out of the Brooks range is the current hyperion 2 . I think their DNA flas2 at a medium stack height with no plate is just a great combo (however I have not taken it longer then 12 miles on a single run (84kg with a EU 44)

The shoe I ran in back in the early 80s was the Nike Air Pegasus. Possibly the 1st version of that Nike shoe with the visible air cushions in the heel. Strangley, the pegasus 40 doesn't have the same bouncy feel that I remember of that early 80s model. Or, perhaps it's my legs that are not as bouncy :)

I made a video comparing the Invincible 2 and 3 here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hn6Wioioab97orc The Invincible 4 will likely be on sale in November at which point the 3 will get discounted, which may be a factor. I would say the 2 is more comfy and the 3 a bit more structured. I am editing a review of the Puma MagMax Nitro for a release tonight...they are super comforable...

I’ve had a few shoes with zoom x. One pair of Invincible reached 1000km average 900km. Equally old Alpha and Vapor retired from racing and reached 3/400 km. However they need to completely change Peg.

Wow. 1000km of the Invincibles is great. My first ones wore badly, third set went okay, once the outsole is gone the foam wears fast. Do love them though...

Good to hear your thoughts on this one especially without any preconceptions from previous Turbos. In a way your conclusion is similar to mine - decent but somehow missing a mark or two. There is a certainly a lot of deja view for me but in our large sizes the Turbo 2 is 50g lighter than this one. Some of that lead stack, rest less padding. I used that for daily but felt literally could do more or less everything. Less sure about the Plus although my running is rather restricted at present due to Achilles type injury so am not really able to use a “light” shoe like this perhaps as well it could do. Do you think will stick with them? I do find shoes with these type of uppers need a while to mould to my narrow feet as usually every time I wear them feel need to ever tighten them. Sounds like you have the opposite problem of perhaps not being quite wide enough. Do agree feel “flatter” than imagined but equally am struggling to get up on my toes which doesn’t of course help.
@OldManRunner5 ай бұрын
I am on the fence about keeping them, but will wait a few weeks. I like the style of them and kind of like having them around as a shoe to benchmark others by, but I just don't really enjoy running in them all that much. I did another 10k tempo session in them after the video and didn't feel the love. I think pat of that is that shoes have all moved on and I mostly run Tempos in carbon plate shoes that I am not racing in. I wonder if the Streakfly has taken the spiritual place of the Turbos, low stack, no plate etc. And I really love the Streakfly...will do some more testing...and thinking...
@TimGrose5 ай бұрын
@@OldManRunner it is always a "problem" if you have other shoes you would rather use for a particular type of run. In a way that was kind of why I never did that much in the Streakfly. Most of the time, I felt the Vaporfly worked better for me and maybe I though it was "risky" doing much in such a relatively minimal shoe - in same way would only wear racing flats sparingly. Streakfly over 100g lighter than the Plus for me. I think for us larger footed runners we tend to look at the carbon racers as our "super" shoes as the actual mid tier ones I find often aren't great for us because of the higher weight and bulk. I think I was a bit disappointed with the Plus as felt it was much closer to a standard daily trainer than a bit more beefed up Streakfly.
@OldManRunner5 ай бұрын
I have not many miles on my Streakfly's as again I was afraid of injury...but I loved them when I ran my hometown 10k race in Skerries and am really looking forward to the next release which I think has a plate in it...maybe the Nike lineup will make more sense when it arrives but for the moment the Streakfly seems very undynamic...

Did you know about, or even run in, the legendary Pegasus Turbo/Turbo 2? If so it would have been great if you had compared the Peg Plus to them, because this shoe is supposed to be the spiritual successor to these very very popular shoes.
@OldManRunner5 ай бұрын
I do know about the previous Turbo's but haven't run in them, and they are not available so I decided to compare these to other ZoomX shoes currently on sale . Tim Grose has made a good video review of the Pegasus Plus and has lots of experience in all the Turbos. You can see his video here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/r5LImJ-feJyal9Usi=ftx1tZxYZHDJcUsy

For a 5k to 10k race I would go in the Streakfly. Ran the Skerries 10k earlier in the year in the Streakfly and loved them. For every day training I would pick these over the Streakfly for the durability and the marginally higher stack at the rear 35mm/25mm v 32mm/26mm

Don't like the look of them, the stripe really turns me off. Don't like the price of them, it's the same price as the Invincible....which means you're paying more....for less. Hopefully the Nike turbo fan people like it. I know I will continue to steer clear of their daily offerings. They aren't bad, they aren't great...and there are so many other better offerings from other companies for less. Adidas SL2, Novablast 3/4, Endorphin speed, Mach 6...list goes on. I never tried the Streakfly, since I went with the Takumi Sen8 and they are still going strong at 500km. Race shoes, Nike does great...beyond that they still have work to do.
