The breakdowns are superb as always! I think personally I enjoy the Vomero 17 for a Nike rotation daily over the Peg41 for the sole reason that during the colder months of the year in north eastern United States I find that ZoomX feels almost the same or has negligible effect compared to react where I find the ride is changed by a pretty dramatic amount.

Makes sense. After years in NYC and many a winter in React foam...I fell you. I'm curious how ReactX will behave in cold. It is still a TPU material but the cell structure of the foam is very different... I'll be looking for reports this winter on it.

@@SagasuRunningIf ReactX does perform much better in the cold I think I’ll be extremely happy and happily buy the 41. The 41 will be something i’m looking for during the warmer months. Only downside with the Vomero is its only job really is just a cruiser. I guess in theory a peg plus probably helps the Vomero look more appealing now as just a daily since a lot of faster stuff can be done in the Peg+.
@SagasuRunning

@dickhead7348 Ya the Peg Plus fills in a gap the Nike training lineup has had for a while now. Winter will tell us how ReactX does in cold… sadly (actually luckily) it’s not something I’ll get to experience here in Taiwan. It rarely drops below 50F in the winter and when it does it’s only overnight and considered “extreme cold”… that doesn’t count. 😂

Great video. In a marathon build do you run the Plus or the AF3/VF3 on your long (16+) easy runs? I assume you run the race show on dress rehearsals but for all the other LRs
@SagasuRunning

Long and easy (25-30k) I would do in the standard Pegasus, though I would consider the Plus now (but likely would still use the Peg41 due to the cushioning system). Long runs with pace in them I would do in the VF or AF. Important workouts and race simulations I'd use whatever shoe I'm going to race in.

@@SagasuRunning It’s an extremely easy perspective to understand. Sure in 1983 the Pegasus was the gold standard…but it’s 2024 now. I’d let you pick 10 shoe reviewers of your choosing and id bet not one would pick the peg 41 as “the gold standard” of a daily training shoe in 2024. Have you tried the ultrafly? My fav zoomx shoe, actually fav shoe ever (and I don’t want the plate, and I run mostly road). Best application of the foam, better than peg plus (and I like peg plus). Interesting to see your comparison of the two shoes
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning Ай бұрын
Yes, I have the Ultrafly. It's too way too heavy for any type of road running. I run alot of trail as well, but all I have here is very steep and technical, exactly the type of trail the UF isn't great for. I have a review of the UF on the channel. What's interesting though, there is quite a bit of UF DNA in the Plus. The sculpting of the midsole sidewalls of the UF is developed further in the Plus. Also the fabric coating that is around the ZoomX in the UF, that channels the ZoomX rebound up and down (instead of out) is also in the Plus. The fabric coating is not on the Plus's ZoomX, but the midsole is engineered to give the up/down rebound of the UF. The platform and dimensions of the two shoes are similar too. You can tell Nike learned alot from the UF. Think of the Plus as a true road version of the UF...it's far far better for that application.
@Rich-zb7vc
@Rich-zb7vc Ай бұрын
@@SagasuRunning as you write that, I remembered your review on the UF. I'm not competitive anymore so the weight of the UF is farther down on my list, but I do wonder if they had marketed it as a road trainer (obviously the vibram isn't necessary), what the reception would have been, because it seems tepid, or at least too niche for the engineering/technology they put into it, and price point. It seems like there is a faint coating or a paint application on the Peg+ that mimics the cloth. To your comment on learning from the UF into Peg+, Zoomx is a high payoff foam, that has been very volatile and each iteration seems to learn from the previous and get better and better. Also, commenting on your video, interesting to see the bottom view side to side- The VF3 is curve-lasted adding to the turnover speed whereas the Peg+ is fairly strait-lasted adding to the stability (obviously in a lightweight trained, the add is minimal not like the Structure, but it enhances the stability)
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning Ай бұрын
@Rich-zb7vc The UF, designed as a Weatern States race shoe/super shoe… makes total sense. If you aren’t racing States and/or don’t have their terrain it has fast diminishing returns. I do agree, if the UF lost some weight and had a ride outsole… it would have been popular. I have no doubt that the UF and PP were developed concurrently and both projects learned from one another. Now that you point all of this out I may just have to do a design video on the UF and PP…. Hmmm? 🤔

@@SagasuRunning that would be very cool. it would be interesting to see the asker-c scores too, I have a sense the PP is a tick softer
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning Ай бұрын
@Rich-zb7vc I’d need access to Nike’s product team (working on it) to get the asker-c numbers…. But I will say I know the ZoomX in the UF is the same as what is in the VF/AF and is not the more rubberized ZoomX like is in the PP/SF/Invincible 3. I’ll think about it and see what I can put together. It’s an interesting product design topic.

Hi! Great review! But WHY does peg plus and VF3 have so much foam "behind" the heal. If ur a forefoot-runner, that is just extra weight...? Guess ur the man to xplain this =)
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning Ай бұрын
I've actually covered this in a few videos, this one gets into the "zoning" Nike is doing with the AF and VF midsoles: kzbin.info/www/bejne/l16llomNZr-Bgtksi=XkiQYToJpG0dOCyf It is all about transitions. Even if Nike super shoes (and most super shoes actually) have a forefoot bias....forefoot strikers still heel strike at some point (fatigue, course terrain, corners) so that is there to capture the heel and move the foot smoothly to the forefoot. It also is there as the shoe will be bought and used by midfoot and heel strikers as well.

Well.. interesting perspective. I think the workout comparison is not that relevant.. you were rested and the distance was small. I can run a fast 1k even in the Nike Coffin (Zoom Fly 5). I do train in them..nothing more proficient at not helping me run faster :). If you want more relevance, try the 200-400m intervals with high repeats. Or something above 10k. Towards the end of the workouts you might notice dead foam under your feet in the Peg plus. The matrix is interesting. Very interesting! You might need a new one for distance / workout type. For example..I am sure that peg plus is not that good at 10k pace for anything above 5k. While the vaporfly is. Building a full nike rotation.. hmm.. maybe next decade.
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning Ай бұрын
Yes, the workout is a test workout, not an actual workout. However, it is very relevant as those are the types of paces I'd need a shoe to cover in training. I actually have 200s in the workout too, which I'll cover in the larger data video. I often used the Streakfly for workouts like 10x400 or 15x200, mostly on the road, sometimes on the track. Based on that work I'm very confident that the Peg Plus will be a better option for that work. The VF3 is often faster, especially for 400s and 800s, but again it's about training stimulus. Having the option between the two, plated and non-plated, is whats important here.

So far I love the Peg plus, as I wrote: You have to put the work in, but it holds up whatever you throw against it, be it easy runs, threshhold or some intvervals... As my first full ZoomX shoe I really expected something entire else... like way softer, almost mushy, was surprised how resilient the foam is... But guess what... its so much fun to run in these, to feel the ground while maintaining a superb cushion. From almost 2 years entirely in max cushion shoes and plated shoes... I really missed something like that, its so fun to put the miles into the Peg Plus. Vaporfly 3 I havent run yet, but from the initial step in its the same as with the Peg Plus... expected something different... but feels really really great already. Thanks for your work c:

You've talked a few times about building a rotation in a single brand, I remember a lot of Adidas talk a couple of months ago. I find the idea unappealing somehow. I think it's that I like the idea of mixing and matching from different brands, just like I would with regular clothing. I even try to avoid wearing running clothes and shoes by the same brand at the same time, because it's too like wearing a uniform. Is there any tangible performance benefit to keeping your rotation within one Nike or Adidas, or do you think it's more psychological/aesthetic?
@SagasuRunning
@SagasuRunning Ай бұрын
We are completely opposite in this regard. I streamline everything (in my life) down to one or two brands. In order not to mix anything if I can, with literally everything I work with, run with, live with. As for running shoes… as a designer I like to understand and feel the design intent of how products are designed to work together. I will rarely mix brands in a running rotation, at least one when I’m seriously training for something. Casual running, it is fine though.

But a little thicker/more protective than the Adios 8 (which I love). Basically a Takumi/Boston without rods as a nice up-tempo shoe to get more flexibility and training stimulus but still with bounce and protection. It seems like both Hocker and Ingebrigtsen really like the Structure as their easy shoe, with Hocker using it for most workouts as well while Ingebrigtsen opts for vaporflies. I’ve seen Ingebrigtsen in pegs, vomeros, and invincibles as well but more and more the structures while not using the zoom flies as much as in prior years. Japanese Nike marathoners tend to train nearly exclusively in Pegs, with the occasional Vomero 17...they VF3s for workouts and AF3s for key long runs, lots of Dragonflys on the track for them too. I've definitely seen Hocker and Ingebrigtsen in them. He was in Zoom Fly 4s for a long time too, which I found odd. I've seen Conner Mantz in Streakflys quite a bit, as well as Pegs, never Structures. I know Structures are popular trainers in alot of American college teams. With the Olympics just wrapping most athletes are either wrapping up their seasons or taking a well earned rest. By the fall we should see some back out training and see where they slot the Peg Plus in. I'm very curious.

@@SagasuRunning I have a good running friend who works for Nike and so gives me use of their family and friends discount (44%). I train daily in VF3 and race and do longer runs in AF3. The only shoe I would consider to swap to daily use is the new Peg +. I saw it today and had a feel in the nearby nike outlet. One was on display. It felt very nice and I think I will get a pair for autumn and winter. My current VF3s have done just under 800km and I run a lot on gravel paths. They have been fine until this week, but they are now past their best.

@JMC2727 I would make sure you do some training in non plated shoes… your feet will thank you. 🙏🏻

Thanks for the review. A ripper. A bit of quid pro quo…as a film maker I’d advise breaking up your background to improve the quality of the look of your videos . 😊

You know. I've worked quite a bit to strip my videos down to as minimal as I can possibly get them. The workflow and production flow I use took me quite some time to get consistent (I setup and break down for every video). This video did have quite a few long segments with the same graphic, which is something I do try to avoid, but I wanted to get the info out first. I use motion graphics VERY sparingly as I often find them distracting for what I do here. Static images I find better as people don't need to pause and I can talk over them (years of agency presentations and slide decks I guess). What I do here on KZbin, isn't broadcast design...so I don't want things moving around all the time. I am conscious of it all though. You highlighted the right thing for me. Behind the scenes I'm actually cleaning up alot of lighting and audio too...to strip the videos down even more.

@michaelormondrobinson My wife has multiple plants shoe would love me to put back there. I used to have a plant on the channel in my early videos. The main issue is the “wall” behind me is a backdrop, not a wall, and I’m only about 10cm away from it (limited space). Maybe a plant will appear though… Thank you for the kind words on the content! 🤙🏻

@CharlesMayer-wu5rb I definitely design these “vs” videos around pairs I know people are searching for info on. I’m glad they help.
