I've used this ad in a school project. No regrets.

this terrified me as a kid. it was constantly aired starting around December 1999 and pretty much depicted what I thought Y2k would be like. In hindsight it's actually pretty funny. Anyone alive at the time definitely remembers the hype around the possibility of Y2k. I spent New years Eve of that year hiding under my covers. My family partied on in the living room and at 1206am I realized that the world had not exploded and I got out of bed to join my family lol.

Lol really? Ahead of time and unbeknownst to my parents, I had our home computer roll over to 2000 months before it happened. Nothing happened lol. I was like, oh, it's going to be nothing haha.

This ad was from the same agency that gave us the Eminem "Imported from Detroit" Super Bowl ad, about a decade later.

It was also directed by the film director Spike Jonze (Her, Being John Malkovich, where the wild things are)

I recall this airing several times. My mom had to quiet my fears about this happeneing on at least one occasion.

Isn't this Los Angeles on any given day??

I'd say that would a PG or 12a if submitted to the BBFC today. A 12-rated Simpsons episode relating to Y2K had very similar, possibly worse, content.
