The Nike Streakfly is one of the most hotly-anticipated shoes of 2022. It offers a new racing option in Nike’s line-up, being lighter and less cushioned than the Vaporfly and Alphafly, with Nike suggesting the Streakfly is purpose-built for shorter races like 5Ks and 10Ks.
Run Testers Kieran and Nick have both been testing out the Streakfly in recent weeks, tackling a range of tough workouts and a 5-mile race in the shoe to see how it shapes up. Dive in for the verdict on whether this is the best short distance racing shoe going.

Another great review - and Kieran, it is good to test the shoes out in an unusual way, as it helps to know it’s limitations as well as what it’s good at.

I had some fun in the Streakflys doing some 800 repeats. The shoe was SUPER bouncy for me. I have never had my horizon bouncing so much, so it took a bit of focus to keep smooth. Otherwise, it was fun to go fast in these shoes

Great fast racing shoe that fits perfectly on my foot. I have a slight bump on the back of my heel (Haglund's deformity) but the StreakFly feels very comfortable on my heel. I only use the StreakFly for 5k/10k races or for fast strides. For daily training I think the Saucony Kinvara is better. But for racing this is can be a perfect fit if you don't want carbon plates. Last month I broke my 5k PB and today I broke my 10k PB in the StreakFly's!

Yeah tend to agree with your conclusions here. For me I am still finding the Vaporfly NEXT% better at my 5K/10K paces. I just find the reduced weight is not offset by the more cushioned and responsive ride in the NEXT% - basically feel the latter just "helps" more. Plus 5K is still a fair way. What feels good for fast strides or a set of speedy 400 track reps isn't always quite the same as say 20 mins on Tarmac. Streakfly fun shoe for sure though and, as mentioned in another comment, might have been considered even "plush" as a marathon racer compared to say the Adios 1 I used to use until about 2017 but those days are gone. In some track Yasso 800s in both Streakfly and Takumi Sen 8 was little to choose between then in performance terms for me. Fit & feel wise, the Streakfly has a wider landing area and bit softer albeit can feel my toes in it much more than say the NEXT%. I went my usual Nike size in Streakfly but in my boat UK 13 feet half sizes up or down do not exist. Sen 8 bit firmer, bit narrower and probably agree may lend itself a little better to slightly longer training runs although done about 9 miles "up tempo" in both and both felt OK but both left me with a feeling the NEXT% does that job better. Whether the Streakfly works better the faster you are is another possible factor as basically you would just be in it for less time which is largely why I felt the extra cushioning was better for me as an 18/37 5K/10K runner these days. I would have certainly liked a Streakfly 20 years ago when may have been able to keep Nick in sight :) So in summary for me worth picking up especially if do not have a carbon "marathon" racig shoe. If you do, don't necessarily expect this to magic you to a new 5K/10K PB but it might help for sure.

Sounds like we had a similar experience for sure, there's a big part of me (Nick) that simply feels like it's hard to fit in another racing shoe when the existing are options are that good. Def count myself lucky to have really got into running in this era! That is until they suddenly ban everything and strip me of all my carbon PBs haha

Awesome review! Excited about the Streakflys but I am pissed that they are sold out everywhere! Would you be able to compare them with the old Pegasus Turbo and Turbo 2’s? I had both the Turbo and Turbo 2’s back in the day but I just can’t remember how they felt since I wasn’t a frequent runner back then and I wasn’t in the best shape frankly. There is so much hype around the newly released Streakfly’s and they are sold out everywhere, so that’s why it got me thinking - perhaps I could buy a new pair of an older shoe but enjoy it just as much?

Great in-depth review chaps. I’ll be passing on this one. The Rebel v2 is too soft for me at race pace/track intervals, so i’d rather stick with the Reebok Run Fast Pro or Metaracer instead.

This is different from Nike. Most Nike running shoes have a narrow midfoot, but this shoe is way different. Would love to test this out as previous Nike's would dig into my arches. If they follow this format, I hope they come out with an updated NEXT %, Infinity Flyknit, and Invincible Zoom X.

An underrated shoe. Nike's "race flat"....or the closest she to being a "flat". Had "road feel" and that IS what runners SHOULD BE looking for. Just as when driving a sports car like a Porsche 911....you WANT road feel through the low-profile tires and low ground clearance.--more staability....all equate to better performance. If you're in "good shape" you DEFINITELY can run a full marathon in these shoes. NO one NEEDS high stack height 39mm heel shoes....it's a trend (for "max cushion" ) the companies have sold most runners on---means more $$$$$$$ !1 :) Companies SHOULD BE modeling their "super soes " on "race flats" ....IMHO... Go to the gym....strengthen the core/legs!1 :) UImmm the Metasped isnt "low stack" with a heel height of 39mm...the Metaracer yes at IIRC 25mm heel...a shoe I'd look at if I were a marathoner...it's a race flat with a plate!1

I have just started running 10k's at a very easy pace as I've started taking part in OCR's. I've noticed a lot of heel pain running in my phantom Hoovr's and i'm 6'2 and 95+ KG, I'm not really in it to be the fastest but would like to improve on my times, would you recommend this for heel cushioning and 10k runs. Thank you.

Nice review. I bet the Next % is a better option for 5/10k but at that price range, is this the best option? Is it the best non plated race shoe?

Are they true to size please ? The reason I ask is that the footage between 17 seconds to 21 seconds with a pair being worn has what looks like lots of excess material around the top of the foot and it looks too big for the wearer ?

Just 5 years ago even midpack runners were doing marathons just fine in Lunaracers, Adios and Streaks. Shoes way lower stacked and firmer. Now the conclusion is that you gotta be a really good, strong and fast 2.30 marathoner to do a marathon in this 32mm/26mm soft and squishy StreakFly. What kind of weaklings have we become in this short period of time? 😂
@TheRunTesters
@TheRunTesters 2 жыл бұрын
Haha very true! We are pretty spoilt. I (Nick) guess what we mean to say is you can do a marathon in the shoe, and it would be better than those racing flats of old, but it's simply not the best option for anyone really these days! Shoes have changed so much. I, for one, am very pleased to not have to run marathons in flats anymore haha

Ivan, así es. Hace 5 años todos corríamos Maratón com adios. En aquel momento correr con una streakfly hubiera sido un sueño. Ahora, con Vapor, Metaspeed, Adios Pro... es otro nivel.

@@TheRunTesters Yeah I feel I could certainly run a marathon in a Streakfly as I did in the Adios 1 in 2016 and the Streak of the day in 2004/5 but there are just better options now which, if nothing else, allow you to still manage to walk the next day!
