Only allowed/approved contacts can communicate with the watch. If somebody is not on the list, he or she will not be able to contact the child.

For me, the biggest problem is the battery life when you run it on cellular. My little sister has a apple watch SE without an iphone and when she is out the whole day the watch barely makes it through half the day. She still loves it but this is something they need to work on.

I have my ultra paired to my cell, and was not able to add another watch(cellular) without adding another phone to pair the watch with on the carriers network. Yes the cellular watch does not need the phone for it to work, but the carrier won’t activate the watch by itself?

I’d definitely get my younger kids an Apple Watch before an iPhone or iPad. Definitely watch first, iPad second, iPhone when they are teens learning to drive and starting to have some more independence and preparing for that next stage in life and should have a little higher responsibility than an 8 year old.

Is there a way to add multiple parents/guardians to my child's apple account? It would be great if my wife could also make changes to his screen time settings and add or remove contacts for our son. It would also be great for her to be notified if he exits the School Time mode. I'm trying to get a watch setup and I haven't seen any notification on my phone when I've exited School Time on the watch (I thought the parent is supposed to be notified when this occurs).

I've tried the watches that are specific for kids, and they are all completely lacking. I love having a way to stay in touch with my 9 year old at all times, but if I'm going to drop 150, 250 dollars, I'd really like the device to do a whole lot more than what those crummy little kid watches do. don't setup school time, it can be complicated, you will end up having it still activating during the weekend or even during summer, making your kid angry at you, and there is not point because by just clicking any button, they will find out quickly that they can just deactivate it easily by holding the digital crown button for a few seconds, no passwords, no anything, they can just go back to the watch's normal mode, so don't waste your time

If you are somewhere without a lot of Apple users (a country where Apple has little market share, or smaller, more limited locations, such as mountain localities, small villages, etc), then AirTags are weaker. They work by pinging off a nearby Apple device’s location and having them update their location. And if there aren’t many Apple devices nearby…

Nice technology, but fundamentally kids should learn independance and parents should learn to trust their kids. And the ‘remote monitoring’ goes against that, and creates scared kids and parents in the long run. I’m sure there are types of kids who would benefit from this during some short timeframe while they grow up, but it is sad that the present day society and kids-parents relations would require this.
