Long time ago about 21 years in Colorado. We had a kitten walk into our home when I had just came inside with my daughter's and groceries from the store. My daughter said daddy its a kitty. I was busy with my youngest in a carseat so I said ya ya. What ever. Just to acknowledge her. When I turned toward the top of the stairs there was this gray tabby she had to be less than a year old and very thin. We put up posters and asked around and nobody claimed her. So long story short we became hers. She was with us physically for 18 years when she had a stroke and passed. She is still with us today every ones in awhile as we are in bed the bed wil shake and it feels just like a cat jump up and padded across to the corner of the mattress. Or a shadow in the bathroom by the cat tree litter box was.. Our kitten and our king German shephard and border collie we rescued are gone as well but we still feel their presence . the love we have for our four legged family is deep. In remembrance Kitten, Ollie the collie, and Blaze . alway with us.

Dogs can be such fantastic companions, we've had 8 dogs now from rescue homes, they've all be good dogs, some fantastic, some just OK, but all good. Our last one a 12.5 year old staffie was just fantastic, lived with us for 11 months before he died, such a loss.

A true story that melts hearts! Thanks for sharing! When I went to the breeder to find out which dog I will take home there were no pups in the room and then I felt pressure on my foot. I looked down and this little boy was sitting on my foot! He chose his human. I love stories like this!

Yeah, when I was 8, I found a bunch of abandoned kittens, barely a week old under a ratty box on a hill near my house in San Francisco. I (hero alert) rescued them ... and we ultimately kept two of them ... with the rest going to good homes. I named one of them, 'Katty-Kat' .... It IS our duty to be good to others, be it man or beast and especially this fragile planet ... as we occupants, we few, we sometimes happy few are indeed ... (wait for it) .... (skipping ahead) ... My first schnauzer picked me, though she was originally a gift to my sister from her the husband. When I came to stay with them, she decided to sleep with me every night. I had originally met her when she was visiting at my dad’s house at six months. So she made up her mind at three years. My sister also had the family’s second schnauzer, who passed the week before I left. When that morning came, I told this three month schnauzer it was time to leave, and she never looked back, she was ready to hit the road. No whine, no hesitation, never a problem. I had her for 12 1/2 years, she raised my next schnauzer when she wanted one, and did a great job. (I’ve used schnauzers to help with my hearing impairment; but it was this schnauzer who figured out what I needed and how to help. They’re so damn smart!

We had a similar experience hiking in the Columbia River Gorge. Rocket, a fearless puppy, chose us! We searched for his “parents “ but no chip was found and no response to signs or shelter & Vet queries. So he lived with us for 15 years exploring and hiking. He also was the neighborhood favorite, had to put a note asking them not to give him treats when he hung out with them. So happy you and Camper found each other! There is no better love.
