This week I invited Dutch makeup legend ‪@nikkietutorials‬ to my mum’s house in Fryslân for a chat about everything, from dealing with feeling insecure to our changing attitudes towards makeup. She has been showing us ‘the power of makeup’ on her KZbin channel since she was fourteen. Plus we did a little impromptu mukbang involving Frisian delicacy ‘sûkerbôle.’ But the best bit: I got to be a guest on an episode of Nikkie’s ‘The Power of Makeup’!

Including alot of food is purely preferable for the people Mukbang means; live online audiovisual broadcast in which a host eats food while interacting with their audience. Usually done through a website(such as streaming platforms)

Actually, most people here are very distant from others and can appear cold at times. It's very unusual for us to greet other people and talk to strangers, unless they start the conversation. People are generally tall here, but of course not everybody is. :)

You're right that people can be warm, during events like Carnaval people tend to be more open and interested in others but on a daily basis I feel like a lot of people are very held back and not as warm. I guess our society is very individualistic, generally speaking 😊

Maxime Alexandra that really depends on where you live. I live in Friesland and lived in a small town for a long time. And people always said hi to each other. I live in a bigger city now and of course people I don’t know don’t say hi to me because then I would be saying hi all the time. But it’s very easy to start a conversation here.

I like watching Doutzen’s video for a reason that maybe isn’t very popular - it’s very humbling. I was not expecting to feel this way, watching a supermodel’s channel at all. But oddly enough, it’s always the one feeling i get after watching her videos - a genuine sense of appreciation for the simple things in life, and to be content with life, with whatever you have. It’s weird how she shows her glamorous work life sometimes but you don’t feel insecure from it, I just see it as something she does for a living. Maybe because she also looks at it that way too, and it didn’t get in her head just like how the other supermodels are and successful young celebrities. Keep it up Doutzen! ❤️

Just watched the nikkie tutorial video and it was so nice. I think it's so cool that Doutzen shows us what she is like in real life. Being dutch myself and having lived about half my life in the Netherlands I can relate so much to the way lifestyles differ here in the Netherlands as compared to for example the USA. To me, Doutzen is such an example of someone who didn't let fame change her. She still has her struggles and she still sees the beauty in simplicity and it appears as though that is what brings out her inner natural beauty too. She's so busy living life and the world is her playground. That to me makes her a great example of how I hope to also live my life. Thank you so much Doutzen for sharing this wisdom and look into your life!
