unpopular opinion: as a young woman, the worse bosses I’ve had are all middle aged women. They all conduct themselves like they have something to prove when they get the SLIGHTEST bit of power & it’s embarrassing. & they’re typically only catty like this towards other women, especially those younger than them. They let male coworkers slack off unless it’s to move something heavy🙄

It usually has to do with them feeling out of control with their lives and when it comes to younger women a bit of envy at the loss of their youth and rather than healthily moving on and coming to terms with their age they use whatever power they have. Hence why there is a lot of Karens

This storytime reminds me of like kid movies/books where the child loses her sweet kind loving parents and is stuck with the evil stepmom or the evil person who runs the orphanage. You had a sweet boss who was going to help you move onto a higher up position who was sweet and encouraging etc and then she passes and you’re then left with the nightmare supervisor

i just want to say that you have no idea how much i needed this storytime. My husband is active duty and we literally have movers coming to our house in the morning to pack everything and then on 12/30 we have to drive clear across country to our new duty station. I also run a small business and im trying to finish customers orders all while packing up my entire life. Its been a mess and this storytime is a god send because i needed a pick me up asap

I was the receptionist for a law firm and had a very similar experience. They tried to tell me I had to come into work 15 minutes early UNPAID every morning. I strait up told my “supervisor” I’ll show up when I get paid. It was a horrible experience and leaving that environment was the best thing I could have done. Just as you did, I knew my worth and knew my experience was worth so much more than how I was being treated.
