My pop would ignore me, my sister and mom,...every day of the week,...then continue that for every holiday. His TV news shows were always were more important than us. Then one day I said, "let him eat by himself in front of his TV," while the rest of us enjoy conversations. That improved every holiday & weekday, from that period of time, until he died. Dad ignored me when I was a child too,....he hide his face and buried his nose in his newspapers. The only time he talked to me was when I could piss him off enough to yell at me about something. Him yelling was better than being ignored by him. He was a nice man, overall,....worked hard,....supported our family, was honest,..........but had almost no personality. He had no hobbies, or side interests,........he worked every day including the weekends. He almost never laughed, or had something interesting, funny or clever to say.

That is way too familiar… only my mom was so mean, but very wealthy, that as adults, my two sisters and I and my stepbrother, and my stepsister all brought a safety buddy to Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners. If things get rough, our safety buddy was to haul us out of our mothers’ estate, to somewhere safe.
