The conspiracy theorist in me thinks that the 2nd AITA about the "MIL who thinks she looks more like her grandchild than the mother" reveals some unspilled tea. OP's mum said the baby and the dad look nothing like the MIL, well I think that is because she isn't his mum. At least not biologically. I think she adopted (or stole if we want to be really crazy) OP's husband but never told him and has been pretending to be the bio mum ever since. She didn't like that OP got pregnant, maybe because she can't and has not come to terms with that. Now she is projecting her insecurities about being a non-biological mother onto OP.

Tbh, I was kind of thinking the same thing, in terms of she stole the OP's husband when he was a child. It wouldn't be the first time something like that happened. The MIL definitely seems to be mentally disturbed. I really wish OP had mentioned if her husband at least resembles his dad, to then indicate if maybe the MIL sees him as a substitute for his father. In any case, the MIL should have a mental health evaluation.

If it is gifts for family or friends, I usually cook or bake them something that I know they would like, as their gift. For ex: I make pumpkin soup for one of my aunts because I know she likes it and it isn't something readily available at the store. Easier than spending money I don't have on something they may not like or want. Yet if it was for a party with a gifts guideline on what people should bring as a requirement that would be a different matter. Then people should try to adhere to the guidelines of the gift exchange, within reason.
