Unfortunately his dog and the bully didn't get along. I didn't want a dog but when I got sick for a week instead of crating the dog I told my brother I'd watch him. That dog didn't leave my side for the entire time I was sick. 3 days into being sick I told my brother I'll take the dog. I'm old enough to remember all the "killer breeds" trends in the US. German Shepherds, Doberman Pinchers, Rottweilers, and now the various versions of a Pit Bull. There is no such thing as a "Killer Breed", simply dogs that are trained to be dangerous, or not trained at all. Unfortunately, too many people don't understand that they are sending signals to the dog that it is Alpha rather than them. Simple errors like letting the dog eat before you do, letting the dog walk in front of you when you take them for walks, walking around the dog rather than forcing it to get out of your way. Not understanding the inherent meaning of the pitch of your voice. Low pitch is Alpha, high pitch is subservient. etc. I've had dogs most of my adult life, Chow Chows, Pit Bulls, an Akita Pit Bull mix, mutts, etc. Of all of them, I would rank the Chow as potentially the most problematic, for one simple reason. With most breeds, once you establish that you are Alpha, they accept that going forward. Not Chows. They will challenge you after a period of time and you have to be ready to reassert your position as Alpha.

I had a Hungarian Shepherd. She had terrible owners and needed to be rescued. She was afraid of water, other dogs, people, and her own tail, but she came around. She was traumatized but a lot of fun and the most beautiful dog to be around. Hair everywhere. You had her hair on you even if you never met her and only met me. She also stole every piece of paper she could find and ripped it apart. I think it was a coping mechanism. She only did it when she was stressed. She was too old to be properly trained, or I was too stupid, maybe both, but luckily, she was smart as hell. Our neighbour hated us and sent the police on us. He claimed my dog would be dangerous. I feared they took her away because she didn't do well with strangers. But she played with the police, was the cutest animal ever. Followed every command. They loved her. I couldn't believe it. After that, she looked at me like: "We did it, didn't we? Well, enough theatre for today good Sir. I take my dinner on the balcony this evening." She knew exactly what was going on! "You're able to play Shakespeare, but not to sit, when I ask you?" Loved that dog.

Same here! Originally long ago, the Toltec tribes in South America bred down techihi's. They were used as temple guardians that didn't need much food, but were loyal, territorial, and had superb hearing. Someone who could tell the difference between custodial workers, worshippers, or unfamiliar people trying to sneak in just by hearing footsteps a few floors above them. Then the Inca fought and took the techichi's for their own temples. Then Mayan, for temple guardians and sacrifices. (But the Mayan sacrificed humans on a regular basis, along with the blood based sports that drew crowds) Later, as settlers moved to North America, these small, trendy dogs were often bought and used as ratters. Nowdays, they are a breed recommended to use as hearing dogs for the deaf, and still get carried around and haven't forgotten their long past when they were respected and also given offerings by worshippers for doing their guarding and alerting work. Get at least 30 of them, and they can still bring a deer down quickly, bite by bite❤

Years ago, i stole a large pig dog cross, from an abusive household in Nqld, I took it to Sydney with me and treated all it's ailments, she was a beautiful , friendly dog. I used to love walking her around the neighbourhood. The suburb had a large asian population., and theyused to see us coming and cross the road or turn around and hightail it. I thought it was quite funny. When I got back to NQLD, I was telling people about it and I was told that, if you had eaten dog meat, other dogs can tell. I don't care if it's not true, I still crackup about it 20yrs later. Love your work Nikki

We got our border collie because of his description as a “very chill little puppy.” I know, I know, chill meant chill in relation to other BCs. In reality, he is still high energy and loves to work, but he knows how to turn it off and on. When he is on, he doesn’t allow you to touch him, unless the trick he might be performing involves touching. When he is off, he thinks he is a lap dog (ouch, bony dog elbows), is super loving, and yes, very chill. He gets most of his exercise herding geese, in our pond. He has absolutely no chance of ever catching them in spite of being an excellent swimmer, but he just doesn’t care. He swims after them anyway, and if there are no geese on the water, he just swims. He can be left unsupervised to swim while I spend a couple hours in the veggie garden. Strangers walking by will be mostly ignored, unless they do anything to acknowledge him. Once they do, he is impossible to stop. He will be laser focused on this person, to the exclusion of all other stimuli. Ears drop in that border collie friend face, and he is on their hip in an instant, reaching up to lick their face. It’s an annoyance, but most people are fine with it.

My family seems to win the dog lottery as far as how great they have all been. The exception to this rule has been my sister, who's veterinarian has won the lottery 😂.
