The fact that the ending got a seal of approval from the man who wrote the short story, Stephen King, I think speaks for itself.

@@jauntx the Way people are talking about "Patience" in the movie and that the character was dumb for making a hasty suicide decision is fucking beyond me. Like. We shouldn't even be having this conversation. Everyone literally saw what happens to anyone who steps into the mist. His son even said "Don't let the monsters get me." Seriously, in a world that's this bleak and hopeless, and everything around you in said mist is already dead and decaying? How the hell is he gonna know there's back up coming? Everyone had committed suicide, the ones that haven't died by monster attacks, radios are out, phones are down, the power is out. A lot of things for a single man to comprehend. The fact that he even chooses to die the worst possible death ever, instead of the people who were with him was fucking heroic. And that's what's painful about the scene, not his mistake, it was his desire and his love to protect those around him, that he made very wrongly. This movie is pure gold.
@jauntx Жыл бұрын
@@Steve-yn3cs My issue with it is a similar issue I have with Shawshank (although Shawshank ending ticked me off more. Fantastic movie until the end) in that both written stories finished open-ended. Shawshank just let you decide if Red found Andy or not, but movie audiences (mostly the Americans) almost always need that Hollywood happy ending so desperately that they had to show it. Insulting. Mist movie ending was opposite of that but what I loved about the written story's ending is there was no resolution. The fate of the world was left in question, while in the movie the world seems to be saved. Yes, what happens with our protagonist is shocking and tragic, but in comparison, still far less bleak and hopeless. He may not have gotten a happy ending in the movie, but the world still did.
@Steve-yn3cs Жыл бұрын
@@jauntx Not really. I disagree. The soldiers are "trying" to handle the mist from the looks of it. And I don't think they ever can, or things can ever go back to the way it was. Did you see the freaking behemoth of a monster that was briefly shown? Do you know how many those things there could possibly be? The military guy said that this monster dimension has merged completely with the human world. That means they'd continue to fight until they can somehow make the dimensional creatures extinct(good luck in fighting an enemy you know absolutely nothing about). That's no hint of a happy ending to me. That's just a military convoy burning some parts of the mist in where they are. For all we know, the Mist could have covered the entire world. Despite giving the "hint", that the soldiers are trying to handle the issue, it doesn't effectively conclude that everything is fixed. And it stops there, leaving the main character with his mistake, and pain surrounding it. Still bleak to me. I get what you mean, but I don't agree with you, that scene is just one scene, you can't use that to suppose the military are somehow handling this.

I thought the ending totally ruined it, to be honest. If the film had simply ended with the main character shooting everyone, and then wandering off into the mist, in tears, ready to be eaten alive for killing his own son, that would have been a fitting ending to a pretty hopeless movie. But the army showing up at the end, along with several of the people who left the store early on still being alive... just ruined it for me. Like, are you kidding me with that crap?! That was my reaction in the theatre. I still don't like that resolution to this day!

@@jacob4920 Dude killed his son and the people he formed a strong bond with in the short span of a day, then probably an hour later it turned out he wouldn’t had to take such extremely EXTREMELY painful decisions had they waited or even decided to leave later than they actually did. Then finding out the first woman who left the store to look for her kid is alive with WITH HER OWN KID. You can see the main character screaming in pure agony and sorrow and stuck with what he had to go through AND DO playing in his mind over and over again. The ending is extremely scarring for a human being to go through such thing like this. I think the ending elevated the plot at least 10x.

I understand everyone has different reactions and thoughts and opinions, but this was a bit far off, definitely not as bad as they made out (there are films 100x worse in the horror/sci-fi genres). For instance, The Mist TV series was the epitome of terrible script and production!! The film had a $18million budget, and made $57million, so reasonable to good box office. Also it wasn't Aragog (I know it was a joke!!), that creature is called The Behemoth. The black and white Darabont version feels much scarier. Sorry don't agree with the reaction on this one.

Blimey, this has to be the strangest reaction to The Mist that I've ever seen! Plus it should have been seen in the original Black and White, as the director intended and was released on disc. The fact that scientists open a portal to an alien planet, unaware of the ecosystem present, and then when all it's wildlife comes roaming out just simply doing it's natural thing but now on Earth, we assume that they're the monsters. When the truth is, we're the monsters, the evil of human nature comes flooding out from people in the store, in less than 24 hours, that's the horror. And in the end, for a parent faced with what appears to be the end of the World and an inevitable grisly fate, makes the ultimate decision to save his Son from that, and leave himself to face the horrors outside, only to have it turned upside down at the last moment, having to live with the consequences of his actions. As a Father that last scene tears me apart every time. But hey, I guess we can't all feel the same way about this awesome film.

I have watched 100's of reaction videos from Nikki and Steve. They usually get emotionally drawn in at some point to hard hitting drama's regardless if it's tv or movies. Once the cgi comment was mentioned early on during the reaction, it seemed that that set the tone, kind of looking at this as more of a cheesy 70's/80's horror schlock fest and not a serious drama. I was waiting for that moment to be overcome at some point, but it never was and mostly laughing and hilarity ensued until the end. Unfortunately the point of the movie was missed in part due to this. While the cgi seemed dated, even for 2007 when it came out, that was not the point of the film, nor were the creepy monsters, and judging by their response to other comments, they are well aware of this fact by now. They aren't hurting anyone by holding to their opinion on this while some in the comments are acting like they did something wrong because they came away from the movie disagreeing with a decent size chunk of fans, but I do hope they will at least take some of the comments focusing on what the film was about seriously and not dismiss them. I think a rewatching of this at some point in the future off camera, with some of the things in mind that have been mentioned here might be good. Or not, it's all good either way, but you could at least maybe understand what the heck some of the viewers here have been trying to point out. I think Nikki's reaction at the end with shock and horror was as close as we got to them enduring what this film was trying to go for. It's terrible to imagine how horrible that would have been for Thomas Jane doing what he did after feeling like he was left with no other options, to then moments later be "rescued" by the military. Poetic injustice. It's already been pointed out, but just to quickly reiterate, when crap hits the fan, hope begins to wane, and despair sets in, people become ravenous and go into survival mode and the many factions that quickly began to form are as realistic as it gets. The Walking Dead also explores this in depth and I also think this is why some are confused here, because almost everyone watching your channel knows how much you two love TWD and this was written and directed literally by the same writer/producer/director Frank Darabont who placed similar themes into both The Mist and TWD. It's why it had so many of the same cast from the first few seasons of TWD. The acting, the interactions between characters, and the melodrama may have not been what Steve was looking for, I don't know, but this was definitely a film that examines the human condition under extremely intense and uncertain circumstances.

I still enjoy this movie but I noticed that most people that don't like it seem to detach from being into it due to the CGI. Once the dated CGI effects come into play with the tentacles, I notice that's where a lot of people tend to laugh at that and then start to pick apart the movie as they watch it. This happens with a lot of movies, especially if someone is seeing it for the first time many years after it releases and the special effects don't have the "magic" they did when they were still cutting edge (or as close to cutting edge as possible for the time they were made). This comment is coming a year late and I'd like to start by saying your reaction to this and any other movie/show is just that YOUR reaction/opinion. I personally can appreciate that you did not like this movie, it proves that you're being authentic in your reactions. However, my point to commenting here is that after reading thru some of the comments I can see why some of the veiwers were upset with the way youve responded to some of the comments on this video. The response to rude commenters are understandable, but you're viewers, the voters and anyone else taking time out of their day to watch your video are here supporting you and as op commenter said you should take what you say into consideration. I've noticed you used the excuse of your comments here and in the video being a "joke" and even if that was ur intention many other saw it as otherwise. It doesn't cost anything for you to apologize in some of those circumstances. Those who did enjoy this movie may take it personally when you say we're dumber for watching this or calling their fav horrible. And maybe ur jokes don't exactly warrant an apology but what i have yet to see as i scroll is atleast an acknowledgement of how what you said could make those that are supporting you feel despite ur intention to be lighthearted. Just because it was okay in past videos doesn't mean it will always be okay. Also, those commenting that the premise of the movie flew over your head or that you didn't understand are saying this for a reason, it didnt seem like you understood. At the end as you said you didn't have much to say even without liking it picking apart some of the points you felt the movie was trying to make would have shown ppl ur understanding but the time wasn't taken to do that so yes people have assumed you didn't get it, and yes they might be wrong but more care could have been put into correcting that thought on your part. I hope you can understand my opinion on this. You don't have to agree but like i said it's something to consider As ive said this is nothing against your channel or this video. I am here just commenting on some of your responses to the comments youve recieved. I 100% support you guys i hope others will continue to do the same despite your opinion to this movie. This movie was meant to be a black and white creature feature (much like what the Lighthouse actually accomplished) which is a big reason that the special effects do not hold up. It's a shame really that the black and white version has never been available to stream online, only on the DVD extra disc. It basically means almost no one doing a reaction video to it is watching the true version of the film, and hence are in the wrong frame of mind viewing it.

That's cool because when watching it I thought "you know it would have been far stronger if it was in black and white and we would not seen the monsters" cause imagination is always more horrifying than bad CGIs. @@johnnyskinwalker4095 The CGI actually looks way better in the b&w version as well. I believe there's four people in this that were also in TWD, and that's because this was written and directed by Frank Darabont, who started TWD. Also, the main actor in this, Thomas Jane (A.K.A Punisher), was originally gonna be Rick Grimes.

I’m sad you guys didn’t like this movie. It’s actually a genius film (even if the cgi wasn’t great). But it’s definitely not a film for people who don’t like slow burns or who don’t understand the concept they were going for. It’s unfortunate. I think if you had seen this from a different perspective, such as having read the book or at least understanding the synopsis of the plot, you’d have felt differently.

We watch so much content with slow burns and we appreciate those so it’s not that. Just because something isn’t like or doesn’t land the same doesn’t mean there’s a lack of understanding. Although i don’t fully agree with your criticism of the movie, i respect your honesty of not liking the movie. I personally do love the movie and it did stay in my mind for a long time. I thought it was well thought out and for a 2007 movie it was more than fine. But really, this reaction shows why i love your reactions. Your reactions are pure, and you react the way you feel instead of forcing the general opinion upon yourself. Reactions stop being reactions when they dont reflect the true way you feel, and if you feel that this was a miss than we should all respect your opinion and be grateful for your honesty.

I'm the one who requested this on Discord. I did so not only because it's one of my favorites, but because I genuinely believed Nikki & Steven would like it. I'd seen most of their horror movie reactions beforehand, and all the ones they loved (esp. Annabelle: Creation, Train to Busan, The Descent, and others), are ones I love. I almost always think/say the same things when watching their reactions. - So I was very surprised that they hated it, and found it funny. Initially I took it personally (but, that's because my life has been hanging by a thread for a while & I overreacted). I do believe that the internet issues beforehand (and ensuing, understandable, headache from it) contributed to the maybe the 'openness' for this one. But, I respect that everyone has different opinions & likes/dislikes on, well, everything.

You guys are missing the point. It's not about their reaction, it's about the fact that humans will never ever agree on anything. The film director decided to make a movie that would do the audience what he was doing to the characters. Sometimes it's a risky movie because most people won't *get it* . Same with my Scribblebytes stuff, I took the chance to do what Frank did: you create content that recreates the emotion in the audience instead of trying to pander to the audience. My stuff is cringe because I think everyone on the Internet is cringe. The Mist is so good in my opinion because it recreates the madness in the film in the comments section. Some people *get it* and the some people think it's all actually being literal. It's a special smsubset of the art movement and it's called Metamoderninsm. Thank you for coming to my TedTalk. I hope that was cringe enough.

You are entitled to your own opinions, but you are severely in the minority in regards to hating this movie. @iromek2 жыл бұрын
I think you guys might have missed the message here. First of all this is Stephen King and believe it or not the ending is different from the book, and funny enough Stephen King said himself he much preferred the ending of the movie and wishes his book ended the same way. The point of the movie was to show an impossible situation and how people would react to it. How religion and politics immediately remove common sense and logic. How fear can drive people to do completely insane things. The end was to show that everyone has their mental limits and at that point... in the car, out of gas and surrounded by these monsters... everyone in the car realised they would rather end it quickly then become lunch. The father had the ultimate decision to make and he did it out of pure love... he'd rather see his son end, then to have spiders grow out of him while he was still alive. The fact he did it for nothing simply shows how fear and imagination can get the best of us. It's the ultimate irony, had he waited just a few moments longer... but how would he know if some sick monster wouldn't have gone through the window and taken his son for lunch at that time? I really enjoyed this dark movie.
@ReneReacts2 жыл бұрын
One of the best horror movies out there. It does seem that you were not the audience for it and that's alright. There were a few things that you didn't seem to understand, like how people would act in an incredibly uncertain situation where you have such a diverse number personalities, ignorant and desperate people, and how fear makes them look for answers and will follow anyone who offers answers. When they go out to the pharmacy, the bugs are no longer around as it is "daylight" so there are no issues with them using lights and they actually need them to see ahead of them. Another thing is that at the end, when they are in the car without gas, you can hear the monsters getting closer and closer and making horrible noises, and the idea of allowing yourselves to be ripped apart by monsters from another dimension makes the suicide look like a plausible option, but of course it turns out to be the sound of monsters being killed, indistinguishable for the people inside the car.

Agreed. Their reactions make it obvious that they're more of the scream "bitch, don't go down there! if I were her I'd be gone!" types, rather then then actually understand how humans react in a crisis types.
