In Mexico the Banda groups will write songs about famous drug lords. The sound was actually saying that Heisenberg “is already dead, he just doesn’t know it”

In the beginning the song symbolizes that Heisenberg has now stepped onto Narco territory by choosing the genre from banda which is usually associated to making narco corridos which is a song based on drug lords and their actions which are mostly sang about Mexican drug lords (el chapo) so being that a narco corrido is made for Heisenberg shows that he is now becoming a big distributor but the song states that “he’s dead he just doesn’t know it yet” because he is now stepping on other people territory so they’ll want him dead for trying to compete in the meth business, and narco corridos do a very good job at painting a picture of how narcos would act which is very disturbing as well which foreshadows how narcos soon later in the show will be coming for him. Something interesting to note is that when that student needed motivation to study more Walt just told him to try harder next time but when Jesse needed motivation to sell meth he was able to give this speech and motivate Jesse properly. A little info on the cold open and any confusion around it, without any story spoilers: I am Puerto Rican and in my culture we have songs and even music videos, usually by rappers or trap artists, that tell the story of a major drug kingpin or high-level dealer currently active in crime. This is a tradition we adopted from Mexican culture, which already had songs by their own music artists, telling stories about active and legendary drug dealers and kingpins from their country. This cold open, I believe, represents this tradition applied fictionally here. The song on the soundtrack appears as “The Ballad of Heisenberg”. And it does not reference Jesse. Only Heisenberg. Hope that clears things up!

Interesting fact that Hank was screwing with the new guy in his department about tuccos henchmens death. He said something like "what's a matter? Never seen a dead body before". Then laughed at the guy. And in this episode they do the same to Hank as he once did to another. It's a really good call back. I don't think he can handle that job. First off, let me say thanks to you guys for cranking these out. It's currently one of the best things on KZbin. Secondly, keep something in mind about Skyler. To date, none of her suspicions have been irrational. She was suspicious of the "telemarketer" Jesse because of the way Walt answered the call and made a big deal out of it and she mistrusted Walt about a 2nd cell phone because she had compelling reasons to make her believe the possibly in first place. His answer (and his cringey song and dance the morning after) was incongruent with her understanding of "known facts." The story of the Schwartz's finances did the opposite. It didn't fly in the face of her reality. It comported with it and actually explained away a "mystery". Thirdly, you're asking the honorable Reverend Jesse "Jackson" to pick a better name on the fly than "Diesel"? If he had "applied himself", perhaps he'd have had a more comprehensive Rolodex of potential pseudonyms (like Walt). Finally, so Nikki does not consider herself a lady, eh? Nikki of Tarth. 🐢🤯👫

You guys are over analyzing the Banda music video. Again, it’s a “representation” of the impact that Heinsenberg’s Blue meth is starting to have. The ripples it is creating that has gotten the Cartel’s attention. Hence the turtle bomb in Juarez. Remember that the Hank scene takes place in Juarez Mexico. The song is not the same as the cold opens because it is not forshadowing anything. It’s simply giving you an overview of what is going on now. The guy in the hat represents Heisenberg not Jessie. Again, it’s not telling you the future like the other cold opens.

🐢🤯🤝 In the song, the "homie" thing is referring to Walt. They're saying "our buddy Heisenberg is a dead man and he doesn't know it yet." And that guy in the video is not supposed to be Jesse with a shaved head. Word has gotten around that’s what Heisenberg looks like, so that stand-in was dressed to symbolize Heisenberg. It's supposed to be a video made by guys who've heard some things, but probably aren't directly involved.

I know a lot of people that stopped 4-5 episodes into this season because it was too slow. Pretty much everyone that warned you guys about BB being boring didn’t finish season 2 and said “BB is so boring, couldn’t get past season 2. Watch something else!” These are all people that weren’t patient enough to wait for the end half of season 2 and on, and they missed out on great TV because of it and still claim its “boring” even though they’re ignorant of the better parts that happen later on. Glad you guys have been enjoying BB. I feel like you guys will eventually realize why many consider this the best drama ever.

🐢👫🤯 El Paso TX & Juarez MX would be one city/ metropolitan area if there was no border. That’s how close & intertwined they are Nikki, you may be on to something. The Salamanca family (Tuco’s family) is from Juarez-Tuco told Walt & Jesse that was where his cousins were coming from to pick them up. While we don’t know who Tortuga is with, we do know that he was working with the DEA & I don’t think that the cartels, regardless of who Tortuga was aligned with, would be too happy about that. I think Tortuga was hoping that working with the DEA would get them to either get rid of his rivals for him or his boss so that he could take over & his rivals or his boss handled him instead Edited to add: Just a reminder, Hank & Marie haven’t moved to El Paso. I went to El Paso one time in a cross country road trip. I knew its geographical location right on the Rio Grande, but figured bc it's in Texas and in U.S. territory it would be very Americana...Got in there bc I needed a rest from driving through TX, and immediately saw the bright colored buildings (pink, light yellow, light green, light blue, etc...) and was like, "WTH"? The curvy roads were surreal, too- unlike any city I've ever been in in terms of scenery...Got into a reputable hotel chain, "Best Western", and the look of the Hispanic young man's face working the desk was dead-eyed, raised my concerns a little...Got up to my room, and something didn't feel right in my gut, within an hour I jetted, and found another place to rest a few hours up the highway...Lol. I was aware of Juarez being right across the river and wasn't comfortable there.

g henry I was sent to work in AZ on the border. The plant was across the border in Auga Prieta & the bulk of the crew was staying in the US in Douglas. It was a similar situation where the two cities were actually one city had there been no border crossing The project manager insisted I stay on the Mexican side so I wouldn’t have to cross the border everyday. I had a driver & I was not allowed to leave the hotel except to go to work. & one night I was not allowed to leave my hotel room because the commandant of the local federale unit was staying there & armed guards were patrolling the courtyard. It was definitely interesting

Just found y'all's channel and binged all of your BCS reaction and loved it. Now I gotta do the same for BB. Obviously 5y late to this party, but who cares. Comment helps the algo lol. People commented about the song at the beginning being a Narcorrido. The reason it's the cold open for this episode in the TL is to show the effect that Heisenberg is having in Mexico with the cartel. As we know now, the Salamanca family basically is the cartel in ABQ. So Heisenberg killing Tuco spread quickly. The whole point of showing the Tortuga story in this episode, after the cold open song, and simulateous to Walt aggressively expanding his territory because of his Heisenberg and Jessie's blowfish reputation, is painting the picture of the hell that is about rain down on him in the form of the brothers. They show you what happens to people who make enemies of the cartel (Tortuga was turning state's evidence) whilst showing Walt saying that nobody will mess with the great Heisenberg now. Which is the line from the song "is already dead he just doesn't know it." All these years later and I still can't get over how amazing these two shows were.
