Hank is a very good cop and has great instincts (with Tuco, Jesse, fake Heisenberg here), with ONE big exception: Walt. The thing is, his judgement is totally clouded by the fact that he sees Walt as a weak, lame school teacher. Hank likes him, but as the inoffensive nerd who did his homework in high school. So do Walt's entire family. They can't imagine Walt being tough or dishonest, let alone a criminal like Heisenberg. Sometimes prejudice clouds your judgment so hard that you can't see what's right in front of you, no matter how good you are as a detective.
@hunterlee33536 жыл бұрын
Spirit of the Fox I mean even if hank thought walt was a fucking badass I doubt he would think he is Heisenberg. You don’t expect your family todo that sort of thing
@jordandrake98226 жыл бұрын
And for that exact reason, walt loves being heisenberg. Everyone sees the normal walter white as a weak, nerdy, and scared little man. But when he's heisenberg people fear him, people listen to him, people recognize him for the powerhouse he is. Heisenberg is his escape from this veiw people have built up FOR him. This is what he is talking about when he is comforting hank. People have built up this life and image of walt for him, he didnt get to do it himself, he had no control of how people saw him or how his life went. But he does when he puts on those glasses and that black hat. Heisenberg is his way of going out and punching fear in teeth, as he told hank to do.
@ghenry45136 жыл бұрын
Especially after all those years (20 was it? Close enough)...someone's character you get used to and expect it....then factor in the cancer diagnosis and he would be feeling so bad for him with Marie constantly reinforcing it....Hank basically sees Walt on his last legs right now too...Hank may even be focused on, as he mentioned, taking care of Skyler, Walt Jr and Holly at this point.
@hunterlee33536 жыл бұрын
I never really understood the whole like bully scenario fantasy that people seem to see with hank and Walt. Like when did hank say that walt isn’t a real man? All I can think of is hank jokingly implying that walt wasn’t a real man at his party. But that’s what it is. A joke. Hank says the same stuff to Steve Gomez
@KnightofGascogne6 жыл бұрын
@@hunterlee3353 you misunderstood our comments. Nobody says that Hank despises Walt and doesn't see him as a "real man", but he doesn't see him as anything else but a harmless nerdy school teacher. Nothing wrong with that. This is the image that Walt himself projected for at least 2 decades. Hank likes Walt. So does Walt's stepsister, his wife and his own son. They just can't see the obvious reality because their judgment is clouded by that image. Tuco matches the image of the drug dealer, not Walt. He's a suburban family guy, a nerd, and he's litterally... White! How could he be a drug lord? PS yeah, I know, I introduced race in the debate, but let's be honest here... when you say "drug dealer", who do you picture? Walt or Tuco?

A police officer can't entice you to commit a crime that you wouldn't have otherwise committed. That's called entrapment. If you're already dealing drugs, then a cop can come up to you and ask to buy some, because you were already in the business of selling them. But if you're a random person on the street and a cop comes up to you and says "hey, do you want to make some quick cash selling drugs for me", that would be entrapment.

Buying drugs is logically entrapment even if it's not by law. Only if the seller itself asks "do you want..." etc. it's legit crime. Same goes for bait cars.
@rockoperajon5 жыл бұрын
Austin Kilgore bait cars are “enticing” because they’re very nice cars placed in areas where lots of cars already get stolen. They’re not trying to just get any random person to steal a car, they’re specifically going for people who are already car thieves. Now, if they parked the car in right in front of some random person’s house, left the window down and the keys in the ignition, and put a big sign on the car that says “please take this vehicle,” that would be a different story.

27:50 steven you're talking about entrapment. That would be like if badger (working as a cop) went up to some random stranger and tried to sell them drugs, and the stranger bought those drugs. The cops can't arrest that guy, because he wouldn't have bought any drugs if the cops weren't there. The situation on the show is not entrapment because that guy would've tried to buy drugs from badger whether the cops were there or not.
@WraithWTF6 жыл бұрын
What Steven's referring to at the end is called entrapment, and it does exist as a legal defense. Basically, the cop puts the perp into a situation where they're tricked or forced into committing a crime, just to guarantee the prosecution. It's typically done through harassment, fraud, threats, or flattery. What happened with Badger doesn't qualify, as all that was done there was the cop offering the opportunity for Badger to commit the crime (and a judge will expect a person to resist any ordinary temptation like that). The fact that he lied about being a cop doesn't matter (that whole "they aren't allowed to lie" thing is a pipe-dream). If the cop had kept coming back day after day after day begging him to sell until Badger finally broke down, or threatened to beat him senseless if he didn't sell, or something along those lines, that would be entrapment. 🔗💼💙
@WraithWTF6 жыл бұрын
@@Dularr It was for distribution, not possession. The fact that he completed a sale sticks him with the distribution charge. They wouldn't be able to do anything to him for possession without the sale, since he didn't have the drugs on his person to begin with, and furthermore they didn't have probable cause to search him without the sale. The sale was the only criminal act the cops observed, so that was what the charge would be for...plus distribution charge always trumps simple possession charge, since it's a higher level of crime (class D felony vs class E felony, I think...it's been a while since I had to look that one up) and carries a higher penalty, so typically cops (and nearly always prosecutors) will drop the lower charge to focus on the higher charge.

I think the rule you meant was that the police can't have undercover guys that tell dealers to make a deal and then arrest that person for said deal. That was a problem in the past (dealt with for example in the 21 Jump Street Musical), based on true cases where a female undercover cop would flirt with high school boys and tell them to get her some marihuana, the boys then did so, but not because they were dealers but because a girl they liked asked them to get it for them. Those kids were then busted for selling drugs on school property.

When I first saw your thumbnail with "Better Call Saul Reaction", I thought you guys had started the Better Call Saul show while still watching Breaking Bad. I was like "nooooooo!" Thank goodness! Looking forward to more of your Breaking Bad journey and then moving on to Better Call Saul! 🔗💙💼

I loved Breaking Bad but Better Call Saul is even better. It's a slow grower but well worth the journey. S'All Good, Man.

The term you're trying to think of Steven at 27:32 is entrapment (the action of tricking someone into committing a crime in order to secure their prosecution)
@conorwellman85926 ай бұрын
22:50 They would realize it but it doesn't matter at this time because the most pressing thing was to get Badger out of prison before he breaks.

Ah, good old Slippin’ Jimmy McGill aka Saul Goodman. Y’all are caught up on BCS and BB so I can comment on how far Jimmy has come into the criminal underworld. Him strong arming Walt was peanuts to him after dealing with Lalo Salamanca’s shit. When Saul said “Francesca, you’re killing me with that booty.” My heart broke thinking of Kim.

24:50 I feel it's not a threat but I statement about the fact Jesse and Walt are financial idiots and will always be drowning the way they do things

Everyone in every job sometimes gets overwhelmed like Hank. Turns out the solution isn't to take a concrete pill and 'harden up', put an extra pep in your step and pretend you're OK. Take some time for yourself, Hank.

I always found it a little unnerving that Walt said “Ever since my diagnosis, I sleep just fine.” Assuming he was telling the truth, that means that he slept better after murdering Emilio and Krazy-8 than he did in his pre-crime life; that the relief of living without fear and the joy of feeling powerful outweighed the guilt of taking human lives, even this early on 😬

"Entrapment" is where the police is not allowed to initiate the crime. But there are so many allowances that its a mute law. Remember when Jesse was "Cap'n Cook?" And Jesse didnt get busted cause he was next door? Then the two guys that Walt and Jesse killed was Jesses old partner? Who we learn was a snitch? And now we learn that "Its all good man", I mean Saul Goodman, was his attorney. This show is so great at connecting the dots! Handcuffs, blue hearts, breif case.

"that exists?!" That is a universal truth. If there is a task, no matter how grueling, there is someone out there who will do it for the right price.

It wasn't a threat. Saul's reputation goes in the shitter if people find out he's a rat. Saul's just very confident that he knows the right people to hook Walt up with. You'll see. Saul's connected, yo!

And now Walt and Jesse have a lawyer. A crooked sleazy lawyer but that's exactly the kind of lawyer they need. I love this episode and couldn't wait for you guys to get to this episode. Saul is quite possibly the best side character on the show. And as you guys saw he is quite the character. It's not hard to see why he got his own show, which is also very good. Walt is not good at telling lies but he is very good at giving speeches/pep talks. Hank may come off as kind of a jerk but he is actually a good cop and you could see from the look on his face he didn't like that bust. Hank is no dummy.

There are rules regarding entrapment. Entrapment is not allowed for any kind of crime. Whether an arrest involves entrapment is usually a matter decided by the court or previous court rulings.

This came up in my recommendations the other day and I had to subscribe! I'm all caught up with your BrBa videos now and can't wait to see your reactions to all the other crazy stuff that happens. It's interesting when you try and predict what happens, I can remember doing the same and then have the writers surprise me many times.
@daffy89956 жыл бұрын
Steven's right. What you are talking about is to prevent the defense of entrapment. They can't entice the person to commit a crime they weren't already inclined to commit. They can't *offer* them money. They can certainly set up a situation in which they get the suspected criminal to *ask* them for money. Like with the prostitute exam[;e, it's not illegal to offer to or ask to have sex. It is illegal to offer or ask to have sex *for money.* So the cop won't offer money, but will wait for the prostitute to give a price for a sex act.

Saul Goodman is the best thing to ever happened to Walt. Without Saul, Walt's empire n reputation as the greatest drug kingpin wouldn't exist.

"Better Call Saul" is a prequel to BB so if you watch it now it wont ruin the show. Fun fact: Tuco was originally written to live until season 3 but the actor got another job offer on another show.

In my school, it was the local DARE cop that was the drug dealer. He finally got busted when he got a 13 year old girl pregnant.

After 6 seasons of Better Call Saul, whenever he pops up in Breaking Bad, I no longer see a magic man wagging his tongue making legal problems go away - but a pumped-up, colorful yet sad, shadowed existence of the man once known as Jimmy McGill, who stood up for elderly people, who had a wife who loved and supported him, and a legal career that would have gone very differently.

I don't think the "keep the money you do have" thing was actually a threat. He just knows that Jesse and Walt are gonna lose tons of money being careless, out of their element, paying things, etc. that Saul as a CRIMINAL lawyer, might know how to better handle. Like you said, Walt and Jesse are out of their elements, and if Saul knows what he's doing, he can help their overall business.
