As a Noctilux user your comments regarding focusing are spot on. The Noctilux is much smaller, relatively, but this seems to control chromatic aberration better.

Yeah it does vs the Noctilux. But to be fair, the Noctilux is quite a bit older than this lens and designed for a different type of camera

I’m a Nikon dslr shooter and when the Z system came out I was seriously thinking of moving away. As of late I’ve been rethinking this decision. I’m looking into the Z6 for my live music photography and videography. What I’m seeing is the Z mount that I was so excited over then got bummed over really is a great mount. I had been thinking of moving towards the Panasonic full frame line . I like this L mount alliance. There is some really amazing glass being developed for it and some great video centric development. At the moment I believe I’ll stay with Nikon a bit longer to see where things go . Love this lens and I can see good uses for this battery grip for my video on my gimbal . The battery hot swap is perfect for my Moza Air ii gimbal.

Nikon is making some headway with the Z series. I feel they need to improve the Z mount lens lineup though, which hopefully they do sooner rather than later. The L amount alliance is also looking very strong. Sigma is making some headway along with Panasonic and Leica. As for the battery grip, yes there are many good use cases for it. Especially on gimbals etc.

So here’s the thing: if Ken Rockwell (in his unboxing video of this very same lens) says that “This is a treasure for the next 50 to 100 years. People are going to talk about this in very hallowed tones”, and going back to the beginning of your video where you point out that “this is a Z mount only lens”, my question is this: will the Z mount be around for the next 50 to 100 years if one intends to buy this lens as a Collector’s Item, or will it end up being a very expensive paperweight?

You know it’s funny how the other day I watched one of your reviews featuring you in one of Leica’s high rise offices with the lights dimmed while you praised the aesthetics of the SILVER LIMITED EDITION Leica SL2, and now here you are in a similar setting, albeit this time at Nikon’s office wearing the Panerai on one wrist (talk about the elephant in the room) that is more expensive than the Nikon Noctilux in the other hand while touting it’s benefits, ALL THE WHILE PRETENDING TO FORGET that Leica also has a 50mm Noctilux at the very same place you did the SILVER SL2 review! Hard to really. The fastest lens for medium format is 1.9 currently. This has more depth of field than the MF I feel

AS expected, a triumph of optical engineering over sensible and pragmatic direction of 'scarce' corporate resources. I was a 28 year N user who wanted a great z7 + outstanding glass, fast. I didn't want to go to Sony, if N could do it as well or better. I was underwhelmed with Z cameras (having had my expectations raised by Z mount hype) and disappointed by the lacklustre road map for glass - of which this was a shining example of big N apparently losing their way! Net result I sold 4 DSLRs and circa 15 Nikkor F lenses (getting out fast, whilst the used market remained strong). I now own multiple Sony lenses (expensive but excellent) and 2 bodies - a9 and a7r4 (both outstanding). I honestly don't think I'm a 'gear freak' and don't claim Sony is perfect (e.g. weather sealing and robustness could be improved) but they remain ahead of N in so many practical respects that Nikon ought to be smarter at allocating scarce R&D and technical resources if they are at all serious about capturing the high ground ever again. Had Sony bought Nikon then I might have had the best possible outcome for me - great Nikon brand, 100+ year heritage, cutting edge technology with enough financial clout to more than take the fight to Canon and delivering best in class photo technology products that would have seriously worried any competitor.

@@TECH360TV No, the price matters as well. For this kind of money you will expect the perfct lens and this one ist still a compromise. If your want a 0.95 lens with beautiful bokeh - because of that you pay for it - and then getting cat eye's then there is something wrong. All clients I have worked with never asked me with what kind of lens/make I have taken this or that image. The content is the most important element of an image. However, I rather would get two Otus lenses to archive basically the same effect. People won't see the difference without direct comparison between those two lenses.

Like I said in this video, this lens won’t be for everyone and that’s okay. You can get two Otus lens and they are fantastic, but if you want the look that comes with .95 then there are few options and any lens that has this type of quality will be equal if not more on price.
