Niklas Luhmann by Laura Álvarez

Luhmann was born in the family of the owner of a brewery in Lüneburg, Germany. In 1944, at the age of 16, he was officially recruited into the air force. Luhmann studied law in Freiburg from 1946 to 1949. In 1960/61, Luhmann received a scholarship to Harvard University. There he came into contact with the sociologist Talcott Parsons and his theory of functional structure systems. After working as a professor at the German University of Administrative Sciences Speyer from 1962 to 1965, he worked at the University of Münster and the University of Bielefeld.
