He has stated he just has exceptional relative pitch, but that he doesn’t have perfect pitch in other videos. He has a few videos where you will see him tapping low E to map the key out for the base chords while he is listening to the requested song. Regardless the dude is an alien.

Exactly. The only thing perfect pitch does is allow you to "tap a low E" in your mind, due to you connecting that note to a subconscious memory when you were little (up to 4 years old I think). Both need to be trained to discern notes relative to other notes, the only difference is that the person with a perfect pitch does not need to play a note first on an instrument. The Dooo has perfected his relative pitch and it wouldn't make much of a difference if he had perfect pitch.

He’s actually stated in a video that he doesn’t have perfect pitch, that in fact he does have relative pitch. He can play by ear so well because he has an amazing sense of music theory and plus lots and lots of practice. The fact that he doesn’t actually have perfect pitch shows even more how amazing this man is as a musician.

This was such a great video and I love how so many people ogle at Dooo’s pitch recognition and just how he does it. I even saw a comment in Nik’s chat that asked if it’s learned or not and the response (in chat) was that pitch is something you either have or you don’t, and that felt a little discouraging so here’s a note on that: not that too many would care but, pitch (relative or perfect) is a learnable skill for anyone who aspires to jam/learn songs with a little more ease like the Dooo does. Courses in music school have classes dedicated to just that and im sure there’s a plethora of YT videos that have great approaches to learning/improving on it as well. So for any aspiring musicians out there, you can do this too and there are so many ways to learn 😊 so have fun with it if it’s something that interests you and don’t feel like you couldn’t do this as well!

Perfect pitch can not be learned. Relative pitch can. With Relative pitch you can get close to perfect but it never will be. Dooo does not have perfect pitch. He's said so himself and you will see him regularly finding the key while listening to the song for the first time

I have relative pitch myself that comes from playing for years don't don't discouraged. Just jam and sometimes you realize you sorta learn a song you listened to just by accident. I've been playing 14 years and I slacked for the last 4 or 5 an I can still do this at random so don't sweat it. Some tips get a cheap recorder was what helped me when I was younger get tons better.

@@Dr.Spatula Perfect pitch CAN be learned, but only if you are very young. Like under 5, young. If you’re older than that, you can develop “true” pitch with ear training, and can get it to be pretty fast. Tbh it’s better than perfect pitch in a lot of ways since you won’t lose it. Perfect pitch always degrades when people get older.

regarding your copy right claim maybe he gets a mechanical licenses. a mechanical license allows you to recreate a song and you dont get copyright strikes cause u paid for the right to recreate the song. They arent that expensive , pretty sure each song would require its own though. i don't know the details of the license but you can look it up if your interested. (below copied right off google) In the U.S., there are three ways to obtain a mechanical license for a cover song: (1) through the compulsory licensing procedure established by law; (2) from the Harry Fox Agency if they administer the musical composition for the song; or (3) directly from the publisher of the song.
