He was apparently in a vegan cult that only allowed him to eat fruit and vegetables. It was an intense and extreme raw vegan diet, which as you can see made him miserable. You're right he has gone from one extreme to another, but his part in the cult had a heavy impact on that so that he binges and indulges on so much food. Which of course gives him some temporary happiness but also makes him miserable as it affects him physically as a result. He honestly needs some help, because he's in this trap of using food for comfort then hating himself for it. It's very common for people with obesity problems, but he's also documenting it and showing the internet.

A lot of people switching from vegan to non vegan have issues with portion control, in my experience. As a vegan, so long as you don't have lots of sugar you can eat a lot of food while still maintaining your RDV of 2000 calories. Meat and cheeses tend to have higher fat content so it's really, really easy to underestimate calorie count. This combined with his restrictive cult diet from the past probably helped him develop such an unhealthy relationship with food. I want to see mukbangs that are centered around cooking. If anything, I think the audio will be more appealing (chopping, cooking, etc have nice sounds) and it encourages longer filming time while discouraging consuming such huge amounts of fast food. Providing such easy access to high calorie food is a huge cause of obesity globally, so more people cooking their food at home means they'll spend less time eating and more time thinking about the food they're putting in their body
