im currently a trainee Precicion mechanic and i can say from my own experiece that the snapmaker can handle aluminim if done correctly. however you need to prepare g codes in something else than luban since you need a lot more settings and also some experience with machining metals but it is indeed possible to get good results with a snapmaker.

Such a clear overview, well done. Love the honest experiential process. Also so nice to see your dad helping out and offering his own expertise to your work. Keep up the good(wood) work!

I love how this kind of machines are being made smaller and a lot more accesible for public. I think you can work aluminum, just need the right settings

I know this is 2 years late, but in case anyone like me us just seeing this. The reason you failed on the aluminum is almost certainly the bit. It will probably be fine if you get a milling bit actually designed for cutting aluminum. The material, even the angle of cut on the tool is different for metal compared to wood. I would bet almost anything that this machine could mill even steel if you just put in the correct bit and set it to a low speed and cut depth. Yes it will be very slow compared to an industrial metal mill, but for prototype parts it might still be great. Also with the correct type of bit it will generate much less heat while cutting.

From what I can see, you were probably just cutting the aluminum too slowly. A higher feed rate or depth of cut would produce bigger chips and stay cooler.

Thanks for your suggestion! Actually Emergency button is sold separately and placed together with rotary module. Here is the link shop.snapmaker.com/collections/parts-accessories/products/snapmaker-2-0-rotary-module?variant=33244375941183. We will continuously improve our products and bring the best for users.

The soft brownish material could/should be Ren Shape. REN Shape 450 is easily machined with minimal cutter wear. Important features include superior edge definition, low shrinkage and water absorption and good quality surface finish. Most pattern shops use it extensively. I think it is ideal for this application. Check it out - it's available world-wide.

Could you machine from the tip of a piece of wood to the back and cut each chess piece off as you go (or have the machine cut the adjoining material as a last step)? This would make it the wood equivalent of a 'belt printer'.

Is there not some sort of liquid that would make it possible to do laser engraving on metal? Why is it failing with aluminium? Is not strong enough?

Thus was an interesting video to watch but I have a few suggestions: Build an enclosure (box) to house your CNC & Laser machines and equip It with a dust collection system so that it keep your work area clean AS you work. An enclosure will keep the wood chip pieces from spilling all over your walls and floors. Also, set up aa duct in back or side of enclosure to make it easy to attach your vacuum or a more powerful dust or debris collector. You can make the enclosure from plexiglass (for visibility) or a combination of plexiglass and wood, for strength and Great visibility. Also, put some L.E.D. lights around enclosure, to aid your lighting of the work piece as you record your video. Use the 5k wavelength, or what we call DAYLIGHT..So that your camera will record colors properly. Good luck on future projects. Oh, yeah... I appreciate your video being in English but your pronunciation needs some small adjustments. You pronounced most of your words correctly but a few weren't even close... and made it hard to understand. Good video, though. Keep them coming!

How.much for.the 4th axis.? Just going to the nearest electronic hardware shop (in Paris, 11th arrondissement, as I live in the region) a safety switch just cost me 10€, maybe more than online, but practical to just have to take the metro to get your own hardware

It seems like an interesting machine. My main concern is if it is too "closed off" ? Can a user use their own extruder/hotend etc for 3D Printing / modify the "stock components" in any way, or no?

I own a snapmaker 2 A350 and pretty certain it uses a can bus system so modifying the stock components would probably cause issues

4:11 I know you said you've never used a 4th axis, but you didn't say that you've NEVER USED THE SNAPMAKER ITSELF.... And even though you make YT videos, you are incapable of researching them on the same platform? You see your bit plunging deep into the material, and then into the clamp.... Would you have just let it keep going all the way through the floor? That fancy power switch (software based E-stop) you bought isn't really useful, if you don't actually use it....

Please avoid claiming your review is unbiased when a company has given you a product worth more than $2000 for free. Receiving such a high-value item can influence your perspective, even if you don't intend it to. What you're doing is essentially a product-sponsored review, where you've received an expensive product in exchange for creating a video and reviewing it. It's important to be transparent with your viewers to maintain trust and credibility.

You said you like the software? That alone tells me you're not very creative or discerning. The primary objective is to create original art and if your not real computer savvy trying to get luban 4.01 to work and play with other programs is quite a challenge!
Can this 3D printer be a (good) 4-axis CNC?
