You can't be in the GOAT argument with less than 3. That's why Wilt and Hakeem never get GOAT talk. Bird's 3 MVPs, 2 FMVPs and 3 rings over 5 finals runs is the bare minimum. He's also got a COTY and EOTY so you could argue 4 rings is what you need to crack into that realm of Russell, Kareem, Bird, Magic, Duncan, Kobe and Bron. And 4 rings isn't even enough sometimes, because Shaq and Steph are never getting GOAT talk.

Most NBA fans will NEVER give Jokic the GOAT spot, even if he somehow wins 5 or 6 titles and a few more MVPs. And we all know why. I hope Jokic can win enough titles to at least make it a legit GOAT conversation, and to see the usual suspects get triggered by it.

They wont allow him to be a part of the debate if the Nuggets don't get another championship. He already dragging the hell out of the team toward wins but two max contract teammates playing subpar is screwing him. So I can only hope he gets a couple more rings and that the team gets itself together. It also doesn't help that once he retires, he likely wont personally try to argue his case for goat; in comparison to Lebron creating clutch sports and paying people to praise himself. Without more clear accolades and the color of his skin, they will do him dirty in the same way that a lot of people still pretend Larry Legend isn't in any conversations.

I predict Jokic will end up similarly to Ichiro's legacy in baseball. Guys who were so dedicated to the craft of the game and every facet of it, but with no drive for accolades or media fame. Guys who will spend their whole career or most of it in one place simply because they were devoted to the team and not because they were a winning team. Guys who will leave countless records and statistical anomalies but who's temperament will leave them just short of what their peaks could have been. Guys who people will write off because they were outsiders with largely unflashy and unselfish ways of playing. Guys who will be argued over whether they are the GOAT (Jokic) or the Hit King (Ichiro) which will never end. My hopes are for Jokic to be able to stay true to his nature but still be able to reach his peaks...
@beanie3427
@beanie3427 2 күн бұрын
Jokic is the ALL TIME LEADER in career WS/48, BPM, and PER and honestly aside from Michael Jordan being somewhat close in PER, nobody else is even particularly close to him anywhere else. And even more insane, the gap between him and everyone else is growing every single year because Jokic's current play is outpacing his career averages by quite a bit. On top of all that, he is the all time leader in TS% among players who averaged at least 15 points in their career (He is 3rd behind Gobert and Deandre Jordan for ALL qualified players regardless of ppg). Steph is the only person within a percentage point of him, although KAT and KD are with 2% of him. Anyone who thinks Jokic isn't at least a top 10 player of all time either doesn't know basketball, they don't personally like him or his play style, or they severely underrate his defense and think that drags his unprecedented offensive contributions down enough to justify having him lower. But I think all those reasons are nuts. He is an amazing person, his play style is beautiful, and on the whole he has been a positive defender in his career he just doesn't do it in a traditional way. In fact, there have been stretches where he has been a borderline dominant defender, but again not in the way that we traditionally think of dominance. He doesn't swat shots, jump out of the building, or jump out to guard the perimeter, but he's almost impossible to back down in the post, he has elite positioning, he is elite at preventing entry passes, he has elite hands, he's an elite defensive rebounder, and he is also without a doubt the best time waster in the history of basketball (just watch any Nuggets game when they are winning in the 4th Q bc its hilarious), which often prevents teams from mounting comebacks. Does he need SOME help defensively, sure I'll grant that. You need to surround him with a couple good point of attack defenders and maybe a guy who is serviceable at rim protection (AG or PWat). If he didn't have those things he would have holes you could expose. But in the proper context, he is good defensively. I clearly have my biases about Jokic, but I didn't start out a Nuggets fan. I had no reason to like them or him. But when I first watched him his rookie year, I fell in love with him as a player. I didn't think his ceiling was THIS high, but I saw part of the vision. And personally, I think he has grown into one of the top 5 best basketball talents of all time. Maybe not the "Greatest", if you want to separate those two ideas, because he hasn't accumulated all the accomplishments yet but he's getting there. Honestly, the only players I would clearly take over him are Jordan and Lebron. Then you get into Kareem, Magic, Duncan territory and I'd take Jokic over at least one of them.

I'm a Spurs fan but I'm also a huge Jokic fan. His selfless, team first, quiet yet deadly character really reminds me of Tim Duncan. They're very different players in terms of how they play but I see a lot of the same principals and mentality in Jokic that Tim Duncan possessed. I'd love to see Jokic end up with something like 3 rings, 4 MVP awards, 3 Finals MVP awards while becoming the all-time triple doubles leader. It would be incredibly hard to argue that he's not top 7-10 all-time at that point. The top 6 is incredibly difficult to crack. Jordan, LeBron, Kareem, Magic, Duncan, Kobe is my personal top 6. To crack that he'd have to win 5 rings or have 4 rings (along with the Finals MVP's) and 5 MVP awards. Cracking the 7-10 spots would be hard enough with Larry Bird, Steph, Wilt and Shaq being my personal top 7-10. I could see him having a career on par with those guys by the time it's all said and done but to go higher than that it would take a GOAT type run. Then again we're talking about Jokic here which means anything and everything is possible.

One thing about mj and lebron is they’ve done things that are unique to them. Jordan had unreal scoring numbers, defense, 6 rings 6 finals mvp; Lebron has his records and numbers. What jokic is doing is unique to him as well. Nobody has ever done or played like he has. In terms of offensive bigs he’s probably the best ever. This is cream of the crop talent and intelligence.

As a diehard Nuggets fan I always enjoy a great Jokic video. It drove me crazy when they tried to spin the whole stat padding narrative. Games where he sat most of the 4th quarter with plenty of time left to notch another triple double if he wanted to.

I don't see him surpassing MJ, but he can be equal to greats like LBJ, Kobe, Duncan, Kareem, Shaq, Bird, Dream and Steph and doing that with no freaking all star Nuggets is truly unbelievable. They complain he is slow, but he's not, he's smooth, and he doesn't waste anything (energy, time, his teammates, etc). He is absolutely the best at putting up superstar/All-Star numbers WHILE making everyone around him better. For a big man, sure, but for anybody: he is one of the best passers both in seeing the opportunity and completing it that I've ever seen.

Every part of this is nonsense. Considering he also has some of the greatest finals performances ever, your logic is flawed. He also went against two of the biggest dynasties in the history of the nba for 80% pf his finals and still managed 4 rings in his career. He has the most game winners all time and his playoff numbers are substantially better than regular season. Much like everyone ignores Kobe AND KD getting swept by that same 2011 Mavs team-in series they played terrible in-its clear this is simply a bias and not a logical opinion. Unless of course the conference finals the defending champ Lakers lost to Dirk also takes Kobe out of the conversation
