He's a dominant low post player in an era of weak low post defenders. Old Dwight fared well because he had the strength to hold his ground. He would definitely have the advantage on the outside. Those guys would cook him on the defensive side the way Embiid does.

Pretty much. Great offensive centers who play to their strengths will beat great defenders consistently. Early 2000s Shaq was killing Mutombo in the finals. They were 36-14 at the all star break then got Mutombo. Sorry to tell you. I know folks look at him being DPOY and all that in 01 but he was on the decline. Jordan was scoring champion, 1st team D, league and finals MVP in 98 but he was def on the decline compared to his 91, 92 self where he did those same things. He wasn't in his prime in 98 though it's tough to argue cause he still produced. Same with Dikembe in 01. His blocking and rebounding numbers were in decline by 01.

I’m a high school basketball coach, played collegiate ball at UTEP. I can’t express enough how many players would dominate in the 80s & 90s. Offenses were a lot simpler back then, Triangle offense, Equal sided wings type offenses (2 players left 2 players right iso with the pg or whoever your best scorers were) it was easy man, now you have a full team 1-5 that can shoot, 28% or better was considered elite, now players are shooting 35% or better from 3. Guards are a lot faster, stronger, better hand eye coordination, I can go on and on. Joker would absolutely dominate, being that centers really didn’t play 10 from the basket. This is an extremely deep topics that go over a lot peoples heads. Wish I could break down the game with guys more often this is great stuff.

@@PaPaSmurfONYA Prime Arvydas Sabonis would make Jokic look childish. Imagine Magic, Jokic, and David Robinson combined, that was young pre-injury Arvydas Sabonis. Now Imagine Jokic trying to stop Shaq, not gonna happen. Even prime Dwight Howard could give Jokic problems. You also got Hakeem who is the MOST skilled center. A twin towers with Hakeem, would be a pain for Jokic to deal with. Oh and Kareem, obviously. I almost forgot about Tim Duncan and David Robinson.

People keep bringing up the out of shape Jokic in 2020. He didn’t start taking conditioning seriously until next season. Not to mention Dwight was just hacking Jokic I think he averaged like 4/5 fouls on the series. Jokic now would bust his ass too

I don't think we be adding in the facts that those 90s centers would call for the ball down low due to man to man defense. You double they kicking it out. Bussing they ahh I don't know but I will say jokic plays like a true center so the fact that he stands out in today's game says a lot more about those 90s center than we see.

He wouldn't do as well in the Ewing era. The defense was allowed to be physical. Mutombomo would have given him problem. Joker doesn't jump. Only in this era he could be this dominant. Could you imagine a prime Shaq in this era?

This is like the same interview with Patrick Beverly and Lou Williams on guarding KD. You can give as much schemes as you want, play as tight of defense as you can, it doesn’t matter. A special talent like that, is gonna find ways to score regardless. I’m this case we are talking about Jokic. Yes Jokic would be super successful in every era. Hakeem, Ewing, Mutumbo, Kareem, Shaq. No one is locking up Jokic, he’s too good. He’s probably top 10 all time, and should be considered in the goat CENTER debate. Whether or not you believe he is the best center or not, we all should agree he’s there. Surpassing no question, Ewing, Robinson, Mutumbo, and Mourning. I’m personally stumped on where I’d place him among Bill Russell, Shaq, Wilt, Kareem, and Hakeem.

People forget something important everyone always says “oh luka is like larry bird!!!” Or so and so is like larry bird etc. they fail to recognize one thing. The one that’s the most like larry bird in this modern era is in fact jokic. Only jokic is heavier, but he plays a similar play style, he posts up passes out of the post does a lot of his work out of the post a lot like Larry bird did. He can shoot the ball phenomenally and they are similar in height so I want to say, all those problems bird gave Jordan or magic or hakeem or any other player in the league back then would be the same problems jokic would’ve been giving them. It’s just that simple and those 2 are a lot more comparable than people might think. In fact I’d argue jokic is more similar to bird than luka is.
