Didn't realize you had a KZbin channel! Happened to catch this segment tonight. Found it to be seriously enlightening - but also heartbreaking. I was fortunate enough to have a great education, and cannot imagine how my life might have turned out had that not been the case. My heart goes out to the many children who have not been afforded that kind of opportunity. This was a great interview. Nikole provided a great analysis of the way in which segregation at the school level serves to perpetuate the racial divide (and resulting lack of opportunities) in this country. Thank you !!!

I was bused from 1968 to 1971 after moving to Detroit from Mississippi. I believe competing head-on with whites validated the personal confidence I had in the years that followed at public white universities and in corporate America. From my experience, integration was more about Black students learning the assimilation skills necessary to compete academically. Those assimilation skills had little to do with intellectual stimulation and development, I got that foundation from the Black teachers who taught at the segregated schools of Mississippi.

What time period is Nicole living in? It's 2020. School busing not only failed with an F, it also mortally wounded our public education system. Best bet for today's parents is online schools where the color of your skin doesn't count, your efforts and work are what matter. What makes kids better thinkers is a course in Logic and Critical Thinkers.
