You are 100% correct! I also have this lens and I absolutely love it! I as well use it on my D 7100! I have taken thousands of images with this lens and I am not disappointed in any way!😀

This isn't the VR II. This is the original VR as denoted by the red VR badge. The VR II's "VR" badge is gold.

Dear Mr. Christopher, Thank you for your valuable videos. I'm comparing Nikon 70-300 VR vs. Tamron 70-300 VC; which one would you recommend? I use Nikon D750. Thank you.

Hi Mike, thank you for the video. One quick question. I'm going on a 3 weeks trip, I'll be doing some street photography, landscapes and maybe some portraits. So far I only have my 50mm 1.8G AF-S . I'm looking for one more lens for this trip. Do you think this might be the right lens to compliment my 50mm? For landscapes, wildlife, historical buildings maybe something that is too far away? Thanks!

I am buying D5300. Which lens would you suggest? AF-S or AF-P , given that AF-P is latest one and has stepping motor in it which is soundproof. I am worried about the Manual/Autofocus and VR switch toggle. Is the new lens takes better images?

I don’t personally own the 18-300, but have herd it’s a great lens. The one difference is the 70-300 is a FX lens - or can be used on a full frame camera. The 18-300 is a DX lens and designed for a crop sensor camera. You can still use it on most full frame Nikons in crop sensor mode.

I own a 18 - 140 DX lens for my D7500 primarily because of the 18 - 200 and 18 - 300 clearly produce slightly less clear images across their range. This is very obvious because of Tony Northup’s clearly displayed imaging of sample photos of these lens together and side-by-side. And why carry the extra weight of a 18 - 300?? For most uses, that extra weight is not justified because most time you rarely need that extra range. AND this lens will likely produce better imaging which is noticeable. PLUS, on a DX camera, with it’s cropped image sensor, the zoom range, in reality is 100 - 410 (I believe). PLUS the ability to to easily move this lens to a FX Camera. This is a Smart purchase which will definitely save money, if you are really serious to move up to a Nikon FX camera body eventually. Especially if you are waiting for a current FX body to come down in price to some point more reasonable in a handful of years.

Hi there, thanks for the video very helpful. Is this lens compatible with the d3200? I'm thinking of purchasing one for some outdoor photography.

+fps fps Hi fps, This is an IF lens, so that means it has an internal focusing motor and should work great on your D3200. I love this lens, and I'm sure you will enjoy it too!

What are your opinions of the 18-300mm VRII AF-S lens?
@mikechristopher6738
@mikechristopher6738 8 жыл бұрын
+sc12100 I've not shot with that lens yet, so not sure I can give you a good opinion. One thing to think about, is the 18-300 is a DX lens, that means if you are ever going to advance to a full frame camera you won't be able to use it, and the 70-300 is less expensive....

I've recently bought this lens for wedding receptions, I haven't used it yet though. Was it a mistake to get it for indoor low lit receptions? Or is there a setting to up the brightness? Please reply =)
@mikechristopher6738
@mikechristopher6738 8 жыл бұрын
+M. Darouiche Hi M, for indoor venues that aren’t well lit it is going to depend on if you are using a Speedlight or not. I don’t know what kind of camera you own, but if it’s a crop sensor chances are your camera has a built in flash - first thing is that the built in flash will not be powerful enough to give you the light needed. If you are using a Speedlight - depending on what one - I’d do some test shots to see what your abilities are. Also because of the length of the lens you may run into issues with the lens casting shadows from the flash (lower part of your images will be darker) if it is mounted on camera. I would test for that too if you’re going to use a Speedlight on camera. I always use a bracket that holds my flash higher off camera, or off to the side (you can check out my review of a flip grip at kzbin.info/www/bejne/nF6phnt-p5hpr7s ). If you aren’t going to use a flash, during a wedding receptions people are usually moving around pretty quickly so you can’t really lower your shutter speed too much. The only other option you have is to bump your ISO up, then try and remove any noise in post (I’m hoping you are shooting in RAW or this won’t be possible) When you review your images on camera make use of the histogram to make sure you're not losing anything in the shadows. The other thing you may want to consider, again I’m assuming you have a crop sensor camera, is that a crop sensor camera effectively makes this lens a 95-450mm. If the reception is in a smaller venue you may have problems getting more than a couple people in each shot, if you move farther back you will need to be aware of people running in front of you. Good luck on your weeding and do some low light test shots beforehand, hope this helps!
