I'm using a D3100 aslo and looking at this lens. How do you like it so far?
@14labster3 жыл бұрын
Yes! you confirmed for me that it does lose its focus far out, I will keep my shots at 200 and see if I get better results. Thanks

I've had a couple of these and frankly, it ain't "super sharp" but it is a great value in that it covers a good range, is light weight, and travels well. Its my "scouting" lens when I might come back to a location for a serious shoot with better glass and more weight. It also has a reputation for rattling due to the VR capability but it's served me well as a "Scout."

Mike Calvert thanks for the comment. Coming from the kit 18-55, this thing was a huge upgrade in quality for me! You’re right though, compared to others, it’s probably not the sharpest...especially closer to the 300mm range. It’s a great value and lens though...glad you’re getting some good use from it. Cheers.

To Mike Calvert. I agree. I have tested this lens on a tripod, VR off, mirror locked up, and stopped down to 8 - 11, and it's very good, but out and about, it doesn't quite sparkle. It might be the VR. The good: it's light, it's FX, it's (reasonably) cheap. As of June 2019 there is the new 70-300 af-p lens, which by all accounts has better optics and VR than this lens, for the same price class, but (always a but), it only fits newer models of Nikon.

Great Video 📹 thanks a lot . Question 🙋🏻♂️ I'm a Birdwatcher and I have an old NIKON D5,000.. Do you recommend this model for my Old camera 📸. Or which model do you recommend with this range of characteristics... Thanks. 😇 ✌🏼

This would be okay for birds. However at times you may wish you had more zoom. I can't recommend anything that I haven't tried. Best of luck!

Nice review..plz include more sample images at different conditions. I am planning to buy this one..also i am thinking of 35 mm 1.8g as they both fall in same range. I know both are altogether different purpose lens But still i guess you know the confusion which i guess most of us face. 35 mm has good low light images as far as i checked but no zoom so good for portraits and landscape or street photography whereas 70-300mm is different world good for wildlife but i guess in good light(please correct me if im wrong),portraits and even somewhat landscape as with DX camera crop factor adds to it but low light is an issue. What you say ???
@benmaundvisuals5 жыл бұрын
Himachal trekkers. Plz include commas and periods so I can understand what you’re asking. I think you’re comparing this lens to a 35mm? They would both be great portrait lenses. The 35 would be easier to carry around and be better in low light with the 1.8. Both are good landscape lenses but I would prefer the compression the zoom can offer and I’ve shot some banger landscapes with this lens. The 70-300 is better for wildlife.

Disappointed to hear that one review I read said that between 200 and 300 image Sharpness in not as good. Hope to hear more input concerning the maximum sharpness of this Nikon 70-300mm lens.
@TheOzTube3 жыл бұрын
on which full frame camera? If not full frame and is a DX, then it can do 460mm (not 300mm) so maybe it starts to lose sharpness.. it is not meant for his D3300 Camera, also this is the VR version (red text) it has the better glass and build quality than the later

I have Nikon D3200. I want to buy a new lens for taking pictures of art for making good quality prints. Shall I buy a new camera or a new lens will work for me. Will this lens be good ?
@mikecalvert80655 жыл бұрын
Paramjit, GLASS is generally a better investment than a camera body -- but it depends on what you like to shoot.

Mike Calvert I want to take pictures of my artworks for making their prints at least 16 × 20 inches big. Will this lens be useful? I have already 18-55mm lens which takes pictures with max resolution of 6000 × 4200 pixels.

@jamdvx Yes, I have been using my current lens. Thank you for your reply.

Hey Ben, I’m checking out one of these used. Is there anything that you think I should look out for or any tests that you recommend to gauge the quality of the used lens?
@clubbedsandwich11284 жыл бұрын
I believe there are printouts that people use to test their lenses on. They'll take a photo of the sheet at different apertures and then analyze the images on their computer. However, I'm not certain that this is the way to test them. I'm trying to find out as well.

I have this lens for a long time, it's a good lens, but for the newer higher end cameras like the D750, D7500, D500, D810 etc the NEW nikon af-p nikkor 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6e ed vr is better. It's sharper, quieter, faster etc.

You can, but it won’t perform as intended as your camera has a cropped sensor (DX) and this is made for a full-frame sensor (FX)

I found this lens to be a total disappointment. If it's not sharp at 300mm then what good is it for wildlife photography? Up against the older 70-300mm G lens with the plastic mount the VR lens is awful. Even my old Tamron model 372D is sharper at 300mm. This lens is of no use to me at all.
