great show Matt. I totally agree with the opinion that Nikon should provide brick and mortar stores with at least one black Z fc. I believe Nikon does now have a store in Germany and one in China. But I live in a two horse town in south Florida so too bad for me. Having owned Nikon film cameras I just purchased a silver Z fc and am enjoying the retro feel. I understand that Nikon Japan will no longer take Z fc in for changing the exterior colors, love the leather tan color so I got a leather camera cover from small rig. WOW... I've been thinking about giving a ZFC as a vacation camera or street camera and the Stealth ZFC is BEAUTIFUL! Then the deal breaker came. I did not know that the IBIS was electronic and cropped the crop sensor so... I'll lug my full frame around. ... but it is beautiful.

Got my All Black Zfc and the 28mm f2.8 Black SE at the end of November. I'm in the UK so any orders with Nikon store come direct from the Netherlands. Love it😃. I also sat down trying all my various lenses to see how it looked... Fantastic is how it looked. I like the looks of that 12mm you had on yours, it looks like it could be a neat little package for on the street work.

The silver is my go to option, and if I ever go for a second body it would be the brown one. This is the camera that reignited my passion for photography back in 2021 after almost a 3-year hiatus. It takes awesome pictures in good light, but low light and high ISO performance leave a bit to be desired. Otherwise, great camera!

@@MattIrwinPhotography I am one of those who always try to shoot at ISO 100 whenever possible and usually like to keep my ISO at 800 or below (especially on an APS-C body) when I desperately need more light, and if I must, go up to 1600 in rare occasions. However, with the Z fc I took a chance and went all the way up to 3200 and even 6400 one time because I had the slow kit lens attached and the lens stabilization could only help my shaky hands so much at 1/6th of a second, so I had no option but to crank up my ISO. The amount of colour noise I ended up with at 3200 and above ruined the pics for me and I will probably use Topaz to see how well I can denoise them without destroying them. Cheers.

Thanx for all ya do! This was a great video, showing the compatibility factor. Have only seen the "stealth" model on the corporate site and it should arrive in a few days. It will get here prior to the Z 85mm F1.2, but have been told patience is supposed to be a virtue. We shall see.

I already have a mint green Zfc (as well as my Z6ii) so I would not get a black one. I would rather spend the money on more lenses or a Z6iii. I like to take my zfc out and about, it looks so good.

I was really considering the silver edition for an everyday camera but now that this Stealth version is out, I am sold on this one. I shot with many FE and FM bodies back in the day, still have a couple in both colors and even though the silver in the film F mount are my favorite asthetically, it was always the black ones that were my work horses, especially in the photojournalism and street work. That is what the black Zfc reminds me of and I love it. Love the variety of lenses you demonstrated on it and it gives perspective and how this camera looks even better with all of them.

Hi Matt, I have got my Dad the black Z fc for his 100th birthday tomorrow February 11th. He has a black Canon A-1 which he loves. I think that he will appreciate that this is smaller and lighter than his other full frame Nikons. Hopefully he will let me borrow it to use with my with the larger Z lenses!

thank you for showing us all the great lenses on this small little masterpiece Nikon ZFC . I still use one of the best Nikon DX DSLR D500 with manual and autofocus lenses and a Z6 with FTZ adapter , I’ve used Leica M for many years with some fancy expensive Leica lenses , bought Zeiss 35mm 1.4 zm sold the Leica 35mm 1.4 , leica don’t know how to beat the Zeiss lens . Voigtländer is dropping new lenses for M Mount and Z mount they are close to Leica or even better in rendering and build quality for a much lower price . With the Z mount you have endless options because you can adapt anything . Nikon is the way to go for stills , colours are even better out of camera then a expensive and overpriced Leica . However Someone will will disagree but this is my personal opinion coming from Leica to Nikon

@@MattIrwinPhotography I use F mount lenses on the Z6 everything under 60mm , my first Z mount lens would be the 26 mm 2.8 Z pancake , this would be the most versatile focal length for me , the next lens would be the 85mm 1.8 s , these two native focal length would be great . If I would not own the D500 the zfc would be my choice for a second camera with the 16-50 and 26mm pancake

I have been waiting forever for the next generation of Nikon DX with IBIS, but It is looking like another 9-12 months (and no promise of IBIS) and it is getting to be tempting to just go with a Fujifilm X-S10, instead. Same price as the Zfc IBIS and 26 MP.

I stop waiting and jumped to Fuji. The Nikon DX cameras without stabilized DX cameras is no go for me. We are in 2023 not 1972 and there a other options for the same price with IBIS. Nikon wants you to pair DX cameras with big and unstabilized full frame lenses.

Hi Matt. Nice video. It was fun to see all those lenses on the Black Zfc. I will say that is a really beautiful camera - if there were a full frame version I would totally consider getting it with the Voightlander 40mm 1.2 lens or maybe even the new Voightlander 50mm f/1 lens that was just released. That said, I think Nikon should put more manual focus assist options into cameras like this. Right now we have focus peaking, focus box confirmation (with lenses that electronically couple), and zoom in to confirm focus - all of those are great, but wouldn't it be awesome if they added something like what Canon does with the matching lines that come together when you are in focus - this is a little like the split-screen OVF's of old - with all four of those assists and a beautiful black full frame Zf and one of the Voightlander lenses that I meantioned - it would really feel like old times walking around town with that set up. Of course this has nothing to do with any pro application that I need and I would be buying a Z8, Z6III, 85mm 1.2 and 35mm 1.2 all before I bought any of that stuff - but for a Sunday stroll around the park (so to speak) that set up sure sounds fun - dare to dream I guess 🙂 -PD

I would love to get one! But there are no Nikon stores especially in Alaska and I think Nikon should have released it to dealers last year during the holidays as it would have drove sales of Nikon products. I truly like the retro look of the older Nikon cameras.

That retro look is appealing at the right price point, teamed with DX Z lenses its very affordable, and as you show you can team it up with a variety of lenses with the plethora of Z mount adaptors coming onto the market. But if Nikon made a full frame version let's call it a Zf, much like the previous Df it won't be that popular because to get the most out of it will require more expensive lenses. Personally I'm still sitting on the fence when it comes the the APS-C Z cameras, there's still plenty of life in my D7200. On the other hand I have let go of my D3X and invested in the Z5. So now I'm starting to build a collection of Z mount lenses. What I would like to see is an APS-C Z camera with IBIS, a Z90 is rumoured, but that would probably be out of my league. What would open my wallet is a APS-C with 24 MP sensor and IBIS let's call it a Z60. The engineering and sensors exist, it could hit a big market segment. The thing is, it would have to compete with the cost of a second hand Z7, which used in crop mode actually ticks most of my boxes.

@@MattIrwinPhotography I’m moved from Nikon APS-C DSLR to Fujifilm X-S10. I do mainly street and travel photography as an enthusiast. Doing a lot of photos in museums or dimly lit environment where use of flash is prohibited. I have photos of the interior of Hagia Sofia and Topkapi, that where taken with film 25 years ago that where very dark. My wife said if we had IBIS that time we could have taken more fotos. I’m also mainly a hybrid shooter, where video is important to me, as I started with Canon DV camcorders. That is why I moved to Fuji, video and stills, in one compact package. if I was a professional landscape, studio or potrait photographer that staying with Nikon was not a problem.

Are you sure? Actually the retro design aspect of the Zfc (which reassembles the older Nikon FM2 film camera from the 80ies) triggers the younger generation. See also why FUJIFILM cameras are being loved for their retro design and dials.

Yep David, really, because I make all the other types of videos too. Diversity is the spice of life. And as food for thought, if Nikon is working on an APSC high end body, you should actually be happy they released this camera, why you may ask, because this round of Z fc cameras, late 2022, took no R + D from the camera development department, leaving more time to focus on other new cameras, yet still allows for Nikon to get more sales ... as opposed to developing something entirely new, taking up much more resource. And as an artist I would have thought you would appreciate the Black Edition and how different hardware looks on it... cameras are emotional objects as well as being tools.People feel this way about cars, furniture, artwork, and all sorts of industrial design. Have you seen how successful the Z fc lineup has been for Nikon? If anything, they need to delay their existing plans and capitalise harder on the Z fc's success for the long term growth of the brand. Let's see some plastic mount SE versions of the f/1.8 primes, or a lineup of DX f/1.4 (or f/1.2?) lenses. This is what will bring more people into the ecosystem. Except for die hard brand loyalists, Nikon hasn't been relevant in years. Once one of the big 2, Nikon has probably fallen below both Sony and Fuji in the younger demographic, which is disastrous for future lens sales. They're not going to make back their R&D budgets by selling pro glass to the tiny proportion of pros who still use Nikon.

Just yesterday on Grey's of Westminster you tube channel, I saw a video preview advertising the upcoming camera equipment show in Japan not too long from now, I believe the initials are "CP", something like that. I was surprised as it was like a TicToc animated advertisement to young people. It didn't resonate with me however I'm told it may be to entice young people to enter the "non-iphone" camera world.
