Excellent video Matt. If you ever decide to do this again it would be awesome if you found some place to sit outside, and showed how a landscape scene would look with all these different lenses. Harder to do logistically I know, but would prove for more interesting images ;)

@@mattgranger I've been happy with the Zfc so far. When on a live stream the battery stays charged. Just like the ZV1. Unfortunately the Z50 does not have this issue and I still like this camera. Can't find anymore EL-EN25 batteries though. Would like to have someone make a dummy battery for the DX Z mounts and speak in English. I have dummy batteries for the Sony A6100, Z5 and Z6ii. Best video yet! I patiently waited and it exceeded my expectations. The 1800mm when it arrives would complete the story. I shoot 6*6 B&W film for my primary shots with Rollei TLR which weighs 1400 grams and has a fixed 80mm 2.8 lens. I can now take Z fc with DX 50-250mm f4.5-6.3 VR which together weighs 850 grams bringing my total weight to 2250 grams. Now I can travel the world with my setup have all distances covered, video covered, fast shooting covered, and colour shots covered. And when Z7 iii arrives I will probably do something similar with full frame (still too small, I prefer 6*6 🤭). Cheers for the superb vid, that was a corker! 👉✌.

Hi Matt. Great selections of lenses. Love my 24 to 200 as it's affordable and if I lost it on a trip I would not be heartbroken. Note the fstop also gets pushed by apsc so the f2.8 is equivalent f4.2. I have a couple of the siri anamorphic z mount lenses that work great on the z50 for video

Holy Cow Matt! I was just about to sell my Nikon Z fc, because of the lack of native lenses. I have the 16-50 mm lens that came with the camera and I bought the DX 50-250 mm lens but I dropped that lens getting out of my Jeep and it no longer autofocus’s. Anyway, I said that maybe it’s better if I sold the Z fc and bought a Fujifilm X-T4 instead of investing in a camera with few native lenses but you changed my mind. Thank you for this incredible video. While it’s warm here in the States, I’m hoping it’s not too cold down under. Cheers.

1800mm might be perfect for photographing the moon or a solar/lunar eclipse. My only "issue" with the Zfc (over the Z50) is it's plastic feel. Yes I think the body is a magnesium alloy, but I feel that the Z50 even is better built, but the Zfc seems to have to have gotten more of the AF updates than the Z50 (including the articulating screen). I tried one in the store and sort of said "Nah" but I might go back and pick one up as I could see this as a fun walkaround camera for when you want to go light, but be in style, or you want to do some street photography (partially because it's replacement cost is much lower than most of the other Z cameras, which are 2x or 3x as much).

Function buttons can be repurposed so that the rear panel controls aren’t missed so much (leather case covers them up). Thanks for showing how well the Zfc works with all lenses: great job 👏🏽

Would be interesting to learn more about could a combo here do well for occasional wildlife shooters. My Bigma 150-600c is my last F mount and I intend to replace it to go all out Z mount. I’ve been pondering a Z6II to go alongside my Z7, but couldn’t justify it. The Z fc might do a job given crop, FPS etc and my wife could use it when we’re out and about. She likes flowers and I like insects so the macro lenses could be calling me now. Nikon is doing very well making us want to spend more money.

So as l saw you mount the FTZ adapter l am surprised they did not use the Zfc launch to bring out a more streamline FTZ adapter without the silly tripod mount it would make a lot of Z users happy and look and be far more functional on the small Zfc body, bad move Nikon, opportunity missed as a lot of Zfc bodies will likely be purchased by people already in the Z system so offering a better adapter in a kit form would allow many to update to a better adapter at a reasonable price.

@@TheDeltaMoo ok bit confused as the Ef to Rf adapter from Canon is perfect is there a difference l missing? Serious question.
@TheDeltaMoo
@TheDeltaMoo 3 жыл бұрын
@@isotechimages.9130 Lots of the old F mount lenses have their aperture adjusted through a lever that is moved by the camera body. The female end of the mount thus needs hardware to control that. Just like some lenses had their focus adjusted with a screw that was driven by the camera with hardware on the mount. Those screw focusing lenses don't autofocus with the FTZ adapter because there is no hardware for those. And if the hump including the motor for adjusting aperture in some of those lenses was removed, there would be no way to adjust aperture on a ton of F mount lenses. Manual hardware would maybe be smaller but adjusting would be very difficult and getting the stiffness just right for the adjustment would also be hard. I don't know much about Canon lenses but aperture adjustment is done with an internal motor in all the lenses that work with their adapter and no extra hardware is needed on the lens. But honestly, I don't see any downsides to having an extra tripod screw mount and putting the FTZ adapter on the camera is easier because you can feel which way it is in your hand. It's just a small hump, removing it would not save any space in a camera bag and it'd make a ton of lenses unusable.

I did buy the ArtTech TZ-01 adapter hoping to transfer my Sony APSC/DX lenses over the the Z60 but didn't read the fine print that the adapter will only work with the FX Full Frame cameras. I am wondering if you tried to see if it worked on the Zfc?

Yes I tried, it is on the desk with me, but it did not work sadly, same as the Z50 :)

Class video mate! I’m so interested in using adapted lenses as I’ll be moving from the f mount. I just feel, despite being awesome, the Nikkor Z mount lenses are out of my budget. I’d love to know how the ZFC/Z6ii work with Tamron/Sigma lenses. Thinking 24-70 f2.8 and 70-200 f2.8. Will it do the job well.. I’ve wondered! I’m planning of getting a ZFC and Z6ii to for portrait, wedding and landscape work to replace my D750 (can’t let go of my D800, still in love!) haha Thanks Matt, big fan of you vids and been fun watching you grow. Pretty sure I’ve watched every single one!

@@MattIrwinPhotography Okay I have the A6100 with a dummy battery. The Zfc has usb c and can be charged while on. I cannot find a battery for my Z50 which is the same for the Zfc. No dummy batteries are made for these cameras either. I would like to use the Zfc particularly for streaming and videos because my Z5 turns itself off even porting out the HDMI. I am trying to build my lens collection too. I have the 2 kit lens that came with the Z50. But I have the 2 kit lens that came with the Z5. On the Z6ii I have the Tamron G2 F2.8 24-70mm. I also own the Tamron 70-200mm G2 F2.8 lens. I have three Z primes F1.8 S 35mm, 50mm and the 85mm. Nikkor 24-200mm and the 14-30 S. As much as I like the outdoors for landscape and street photography I guess the alternative is the Zfc. But I love my Z6ii and am considering another one. I love the Z50 weight, how it feels and the portability. But I have the Sony RX100 VA. Cannot take videos for more than 5 minutes though.

Thanks Matt - great to see all the variables available for the Zfc and any Z camera for that matter. My Zfc (black) arrived Monday and am using the silver 16-50mm and the Z 50mm 1.8 (75mm). Have them in my walk around sling and ready to go! Still waiting on the MC 105mm I ordered mid-June, ugh. My Z7ii is feeling a little neglected right now.

Hi Gerry! I also have the 16-50 DX lens with the Z fc and was looking into getting the Z 50mm 1.8. I am quite new to the whole lens realm, but I can't seem to get a definitive answer on this. As Matt stated in the beginning of the video, the 16-50 kit lens is effectively a 24-75mm. So, I am wondering does the 16-50 DX set @ 50mm give you the exact same picture as the Z 50? Not taking into account the fact that the z 50 is a prime. I am just wondering in terms of angle of view and overall effective "zoom". I want to get a lens with a further throw than the 16-50 kit lens and I was looking into the Z 50, because I thought the Z 85 being an effective focal length of 127.5 would be more than I am looking for. Thanks!

@@fatpenguinphotos Since you have a DX 16-50mm your max range is indeed - 50mm on that camera. The 50mm 1.8 if a full frame lens so on the Zfc will be 75mm so will give you that longer focal length you want. It's a perfect portrait lens and longer landscape lens. You can watch Ricci Talks youtube channel where he reviews the 50mm 1.8 - he says it's one of the sharpest primes he's ever tested. It's nice, light and incredible.

Good evening, Great video Matt! I bought z50 few months ago, great travel camera... It's a pity,, Zfc seems quite better... Anyway... Your video explains well how enjoyng using ftz adapter and previous lenses. (ftz adapter is understandably inconvenient to use, it is bulky travelling... Nice. But looking at MTF curves of all different nikon lenses (nikon images) and comparing them we could understand the behaviours and select the one fits our necessities... Again, flattest curves mean higer prices...Having a Z aps-c camera my question is: "It's worth it? No one is considering this aspect... Cheers.

Great video, thank you for that very informative piece of work! It's amazing how many "odd" lenses apart from the Nikon F mount ones work on the Z cameras. Left a thumb up and a subscription to your channel. 👍 10:48: "This is a very minimalistic design." To me, that translates into "Nikon cut every corner they could find in order to use as much cheap plastic as possible so as to make production cost low and profit margin high." Now, there's nothing wrong with the desire to be profitable, but it doesn't really have to feel that cheap in the customers' hands, does it? 😉

I hope Nikon makes more of retro-looking Z mount native lenses. New Z mount lenses with its minimalistic design do not fit the retro look, and F mount lenses don't look too good either with the adapter attached.

Good stuff, loved the vid, makes the Zfc even more appealing. I can see those people who like to experiment with lenses being enticed. Just not the megadap for me, that slow creeping noise reminds me of the very first, very slow AF screw driven lenses, no thanks, no need t go back to that kind of 'performance'. Anything else? Yes. the most likely Z candidates - the 50mm f2.8 macro (but you might not have it anymore?) and the 50mm 1.8 S. Both fairly small in size those would be obvious choices. And since this is a Santa wish list, black body, please...

Great vid and sample lens selection ... I just wished the Z fc had VR, which is it's only weakness given that most new Nikon lenses don't have VR :( One half of me wants to try the Z fc, possibly with the older F mount lenses that have VR, but the other half things I should stick to Z mount ... in the end I will probably stick with my FF and not bother with the APS-C until perhaps Tamon et al bring out Z mount versions of their lenses. Mind you, the question then becomes will we see any Tamron Z mount lenses before the next iteration of th Z fc / Z 50s come out or any other Nikon APS-C with VR?
