I've just ordered a D100 on a whim as I saw one for 41 GBP on my favourite used camera gear website. I am exited to play with it and immediately came to KZbin to see what I'm in for. You enthusing about the CCD sensor has got me even more hyped up. Looking forward to seeing how it compares to the Fuji X-trans sensor on my XT-2. Will be dusting off my old Nikkors and trying to find a CF card that is compatible (I'm guessing it needs to be of similar vintage). Great to see such enthusiasm for solid, old and still useful gear.

What do you think about the difference between the Nikon and Fuji now?
@timsmith53393 ай бұрын
@@dedclownsRfunny I like them both to be honest. The Nikon is a bit tired and probably not quite as solid as it was when new, but still takes a lovely photograph. My Fuji produces lovely colours straight out of the camera, but I'm realising that this CCD/CMOS/X-trans debate is largely a non-argument. The differences with the processing in camera are what gives the illusion of difference and you could in theory make a photo from either of them look like the other in post. The advantage that the Fuji has though, is the ease with which you can give your pictures a filmic quality very quickly. (though you could save a profile and do the same with the Nikon I suppose). Bottom line is, the best camera is the one you have with you, as the saying goes. It's fun to play with different gear though.
@dedclownsRfunny3 ай бұрын
@@timsmith5339 oh don’t get me started on Fujifilm filters. That’s all they are to me. Don’t get me wrong I love the three I have (x10, x20, GFX50s) but I think it’s insane that people will pay a huge tax on what could essentially be achieved in an app very easily. Just wondering how you found the two 😊 I also have a Nikon D50 (with ccd) and others and the D50 is one of my favourites in my collection.
@timsmith53392 ай бұрын
@@dedclownsRfunny That's quite a collection. You are right that you can get processing 'recipes' for most, if not all cameras and the ones in Fuji cameras are just the same. I don't think you're paying a great deal for them though. Fujis are premium products, far more sturdy than say, the Nikon D5100 I started with. Since then I've had a Pentax and a Nikon D750 which are comparable to Fuji in feel and quality, but probably also on price. Not sure about the Pentax on the price front though, it was a used impulse buy and quite old when I bought it (I can't even remember the model number for certain but I think it was 100D? It was a 10MP from around 2011 or earlier maybe). It was a weighty beast for its size and the shutter felt like a proper chunk of metal moving when it went. Very nice though. I think Fuji are similar to Pentax in some ways and perhaps like a poor mans Leica (though I've never even held one of those). Can't say I lust after one either but I would love to have a play with a medium format camera such as your GFX50. It would probably be a short lived affair as with full frame, I tend to prefer to travel light as I'm often carrying my gear for miles and up hills etc. I found that, as much as I could feel the benefits of full frame from getting a good picture in challenging light point of view, I would rather miss a few and enjoy the trek more. I think cameras have move on too, I didn't find going back to DX in a Fuji as much of a shock to the system as I thought it might, or perhaps I had just learned more about getting the best out of a camera in the meantime, I was at a steeper part of the learning curve at the time.

Something else about a D100 is that it has an early infrared blocking filter on the sensor which doesn't work very well. So fluffy white clouds look a bit different and you can get reasonably bright infrared pictures with a 720nm filter on the front of the lens. Focussing with an infrared filter is a bit difficult as there is no live view and you can't see anything with the filter on, but shooting lots and deleting the bad images costs nothing bar the time. I like CCD cameras. My favourite is probably my D80 as it does everything a D200 can do in a smaller package, although it will die from the built in fault eventually.

Right ;-) and the 70 goes for less than 10 bucks lol BUT …. The D100 is in a different class for sure …. Hold them both , I just did… the 100 feels like a Mercedes… the 70 like a …. Toyota

Question …. Have you tried the D80 …. I bought one but it’s faulty :-( just wanna see if it’s as good as the 100
@robbellphoto Жыл бұрын
MY GOODNESS ! I bought the D80 twice and it’s been faulty ? Error message ?! TWICE ! Imma give it a miss as I’ve been burned . Listen …. Side note…. Just got a FujiFilm XT-10 ….. it destroys all of my CCD DSLRs for vibes and usability , I’m obsessed …. But it was $400 and $300 for the lens :-(

The D80 is fantastic. Sorry you guys got dead ones. I got a dead D50.

If anything the d70 is better The d100 has the 10 zone matrix meter from the N80 and f100 The d70 has the 1005 pixel rgb meter that was introduced with the f5 The d100 shutter tops out at 1/4000 the d70 goes to 1/8000 D100 uses d-ttl d70 uses the newer i-ttl for flash... D-ttl has limits on flash compatability... Just a handful of nikon flashes and to my knowledge no third party support d-ttl D100 has few things over the d70... Some boosted iso modes if you want extreme noise and the screw thread on the shutter button for a cable release

The D200 was a much better camera. D100 uses the earlier TTL system.

The D100 is just a little bit more iconic in my opinion.

I waited for the D200 so I could use my ai mf lenses and meter

Ha ! The d700 is a wonder for sure but 2,3,4 x the price and way harder to acquire in decent shape ! The D100 is a great camera and if one can shoot good shots with this , one can shoot amazing shots with most of the Nikon range for sure ! Nonsense PHAAA

@@robbellphoto I dont see why reach for the camera in case of d100, the phone wins here :D
@robbellphoto3 ай бұрын
@@Moonrakerd phones are unable to create real bokeh, phones use AI for the most part. If you compose to live your life in the matrix. Be my guest. I support reality. The D100 with some vintage glass …. Little slice of heaven
@Moonrakerd3 ай бұрын
yeap but they also take hdr shots with and give you that polariser look sky straight out of the box, basically if you take pics of landscapes your phone will give you better shots, also try taking a shot with d100 in the evening, even with 1.4 its still a miss mostly
@robbellphoto3 ай бұрын
@@Moonrakerd 100% true !! The ISO performance will of course be lacking. My point still stands. Phones vs DSLR/SLR/MLESS…. No contest. And the D100 was used by pros and can still be used to create wonderful images for very little. What does an iPhone cost these days ?! 1200-1500… that’s Sony Alpha money.

Nope - The greatest CCD camera ever was the Fuji S3 - And on top of everything else ... that Fuji camera was built like a Sherman tank when compared to the cameras of today, and also back then, as well. You know, a magnesium alloy body. Sort of like a tough hockey puck.
