Fantastic video and it worked perfectly following the clear and concise step by step instructions (5/29/16). Only think I would add is that there are clips to hold the ribbon cables in place (they can pull out but the cables will not push back in without undoing the clips). On the wider of the two ribbon cables, there is an off white clip that needs to be flipped up and then insert the cable and then flip it down. For the smaller ribbon cable there is a black clip that needs to be pulled out and then the cable inserted and the black clip pushed back. Otherwise everything went great. Thanks so much.

Hi, thanks for the tutorial. Followed every steps, screen is turning on but I do not see anything on it. Any idea what it could be. I plugged and unplugged both wires twice. They are holding tight and the clips are in place. Maybe I got a bad screen ? Is there a reset on the camera for the screen ? Thanks for your help

so i replaced the screen. before i put everything together i tested it. it worked! great i thought. so i reassembled the camera switched it on and...it doesn't work at all. i can only screen backlight but nothing on the screen. i tried redoing everything, and changing to old screen which kinda worked a little bit and nothing. any advice?

Hi, is it true that nikons require re-programming once a new LCD has been installed? I've heard that the lenses, focus and other inner workings of the camera won't be properly programmed if you do a DIY replacement. Do you know anything about this? What steps did you take right after replacing the LCD to ensure the camera was able to function properly in every way?

I ordered the screen from a random Chinese website when I did this. Looking now, it seems like a few different websites still carry them. The blew screwdriver I used was just a small one from a hardware store. The smaller metal one is from an eye-glass repair kit that you can buy at most pharmacies in the US. Any electronics, or small size screwdriver should do the trick.

@@StevesGarage me either unfortunately. I have found spare parts in some service shops but sellers are aware these LCDs disappeared from market and cast prices over them.. Even being a second hand part.

Thanks for the reply. If the images on the internet are to be believed, those displays are from a Taiwanese company called AU Optics, who actually make fantastic displays and also make them for some quite large companies like Samsung. Hopefully, I won't run into any issues either.

The screen arrived and I examined and installed it. It does have the AUO logo on it, however so does the original Nikon screen, but the finishing touches are not the same, which makes me think that AUO does produce displays for Nikon, and is in fact a premium quality Taiwanese brand, but also that the eBay model is a Chinese knock-off that only bears the same logo because of well, obvious attempts at forgery. Disappointing, but hey, it works. :)

hi? i also have this kind of incident on my Nikon D3100 cam. my grandson took pictures of the group but then he slipped on the ground sending the cam banged at the edge of the cement floor. so that's it for almost a year this happened. it's hard to get contact with an authorized Nikon repairman since I am far from Makati City while our province is in Bohol, Philippines. I've watched your video on how to fix and it inspires me to do it later. my question is what is the name of that replacement parts of the monitor and you bought it at Amazon. OMG! I'm not too familiar with LCD screens. It could be the screen is bad, or it could be whatever controls the screen. If you can find the screen for cheap, it may be worth swapping to see if it solves the issue. You could always try and find a camera repair shop to have them diagnose it as well.

Not exactly sure what could be wrong to cause the buttons to not function. Did you drop it, expose it to water, or dirt? Taking it apart to see if something is lodged in there, or if there's a wiring problem wouldn't be a bad idea. Let me know how else I can help.

@@StevesGarage no I didn't drop it or expose it to water however I live in Pakistan and it's very dusty here. I bought it in 2015 and it was a used cam, play button used to misbehave but others were fine. Now others wouldn't work too.

I don't have enough experience with it to know if it's sensitive to dust or not. If it were my camera I'd take it apart to inspect it and see if the issue is visible like a problem with the button itself, or something deeper like a failed electrical connection.

I do remember that it took forever to arrive because it came from China. Unfortunately I no longer own the camera, so I can't get the name of the screen I bought. +Erik Olivares Yes it's easy to replace the screen. Once you remove all the screws around the body so the trim comes off, the screen is right there. The video is pretty detailed and can help you locate all the screws. Let me know if you have any more questions!

You didn't hit the manual focus button or something silly like that right? Replacing the screen is nowhere near the autofocus items, so I'm not sure what could have went wrong. It could also be a lens problem. I haven'y had any autofocus issues, and you don't provide much detail so I'm not sure how to help you.

I'm sure I didn't do nothing wrong. It was working right before I replaced the LCD, everything worked great. Then the autofocus doesn't work, the motor doesn't work but the infrared light turns on. I googled and found out that a firmware update will fix it. I'll give it a try.

I just updated the latest firmware and it didn't help. The autofocus motor doesn't start, no matter what setting I'm in. I did the basics, cleaning the mirror, the autofocus sensors, bla bla and what not. It was working right before I replaced the LCD, I might've messed something up. I've no idea how to fix it.

It might be worth bringing to a professional to have them check it out. Good luck and let me know if there is anything else I can do.
