I use the cam ranger for remote control. Sit in the car and do astrophotography and time lapses.. My d4s is awesome....

I am now finally the proud owner of a Nikon D4, too. I've come a long way from the D5100, D5200, D7000, D7100, D3, D3S and the D700. Although the differences between the latter 3 and the D4 are not huge, the D4 does everything a tad better which makes it the ultimate allround camera for me. I'm really happy with this machine!

@@frederikboving Thanks for the quick reply, Frederik! I still haven't made up my mind between Adobe Color and Camera Standard. On the D700 I always use Camera Neutral v4 and crank up color and contrast, when needed. Having said that, nothing really matches the original Nikon in-camera profiles that for RAW files can only be dispayed in Capture NX-D (or the new NX Studio). However, these in-house programs have other disadvantages. Hard decisions :)

You nabbed a really lovely copy of the D4. I'm minded to sell my mint Nikon D810 because I actually prefer shooting with my D7100 which, if scaled up to FF would be a 50 Mp body thanks to its sensor's greater pixel density. I'm also not into espionage... . Would you mind my asking the ballpark you paid for your D4, along with the shutter count? Best, Ant.

@@AntPDC Hi, I paid a little more than 1.000 eur for my D4, and as I recall it the shutter count was 13t or something crazy low. I both looked and felt like a new camera when I got it. I have been very lucky with that copy and it confirmed my good experience with buying gear from Japan - they seem to take good care of their gear over there! I would hold on to the d810, and maybe give it a try with the cropped mode before selling. But that is just me being a FF nerd.

Thank you Frederik for this nice video. I will look into your tip on the wide-angle zoom lens. Seems like a nice lens. As a camera strap, I use the Nikon Camera Neck official Strap AN-6Y Yellow Made in JAPAN on my D3. It works far better than the one supplied with the camera. It would look great on your D4 and very professional! For a screen protector, I use the original click on a screen protector. I am still looking for an original Nikon camera bag for my D3. For my D3, I use a Crumpler Industry Disgrace camera strap, clip on screen protector (similar to the one that came with the D300), RRS L-bracket and replaced the focusing screen with a Type E.

@@bfs5113 The RRS BD5-L for Nikon D4/D5 is 280 EUR! That's close to 1/3rd of what I paid for the body! For a piece of aluminum!

@@frederikboving Bought that used from B&H for ~$130 in 2012 and did I mentioned that I paid $630 for 2x 8GB SanDisk Extreme Ducati Edition CF cards in 2008. BTW, there weren't any Made in China El Cheapo alternates back then, it was either that or Kirk.

It is a great lens! Also have a look at the 12-24, another good alternative, especially if you need to go extra wide.

@@lanxxafame428 Zaaid, if you are on a budget and don't mind a curved front element, then the Samyang 12mm is a good alternative. Focus is manual and it is a prime, but it is known to be a very good lens considering the price point. Notice however, that if you plan to use a ND filter or other filters, then you need a (potentially expensive) construction to hold the filter.

I'm using a Sony A7rii mainly shooting jpegs at 18mp. How does the D4 stack up shooting jpegs? Wonderful reviews by the way - love Nikon cameras!

Hi David, sorry, I only use the D4 to shoot raw images. I have only started using the D700 with JPGs after I discovered that Nikon has profiles you can download and simulate for example Kodak portrait films. So the short of the long of it is that I simply don't know! Sorry that this was not very helpful!

Hi MrTallpaul - Maybe one day! I have looked into the DF, but the price scared me to be quite honest! Good copies are easily around 2000 USD and that is a lot I find for a 10+ year camera. But who knows? Maybe one day I'll come across a copy that is OK and not too expensive! Take care!

@@frederikboving it's true that the price makes it a niche product, I also think that's why it has a loyal following by anyone who owns one. The D4's sensor is beautiful but the sheer size and weight make it impossible for me as a travel photographer. I pair my DF with vintage manual ais lenses, small and bulletproof, and the results are as good as I could ever hope for. Keep up the interesting videos

Nikon D4 cameras are probably some of the finest Dslrs before everything is mirroless. I love mine and wouldn't never sell it. I also shoot Canon as well, both makers are equally good. Canon for sports and wildlife Nikon for everything else.

Why don't you use the XQD card as your primary, and then download images through camera's USB port? I always work this way, only removing cards (to put in an empty) if I fill them on a big shoot.

Hi and thank you for your suggestion. As I have 7 different cameras and only a few of them has a USB port but all have a SD card, I have simply standardized my workflow to be the same across all cameras. I find that is simply easier - then I don't have to vary my workflow.

@@gedav1234 To me they seem very similar. Where I notice the dynamic range is when I do low light photography. I have done more low light with the D750 than the D4, and the D750 impresses me both with ability to focus in the dark and give me the shots that I want. flic.kr/p/2kYa6w6 - The D4 also performs stellar, but I would expect that coming from a pro level 6000 USD camera, whereas with the D750 I think it "punches above it's weight" given the price bracket.

I recently upgaded from the D3S to the D4 and after a few weeks of shooting the latter, I'm not sure I would do it again. As I see it, the only advantage is 16 vs 12 MP and maybe a slightly faster autofocus that focuses a bit better in low-light conditions. Build quality-wise the D3S is better than the D4. I do like the color output of the D4 better but that's highly subjective and can be counteracted with lightroom profiles.

@@timkramer2698 funny thing is that i did not get the trade bcs the other guy , exactly on the day when my courier needed to get my nikon d3s , called me and said that he got another offer for a d3s and it's more convenient for him ... I have a z6 and that is not a problem , but i really needed a second body for video and photo , but idk maybe i will get a d4 or a d810 someday

I don't see any difference in the build quality between the D3S and the D4. I've had the latter in daily pro use since 2012. Both are fine cameras, the D3S is marginally better at high ISO, but only marginally. The D4 is better at lower ISO and is the better all rounder. The big difference between them at the time was intended to be improved support for video. Unfortunately video on the D4 turned out to be poor. At this stage in their respective lives there's no real reason to choose one camera over the other apart from the D4's built in sensor cleaning..

64 GB according to the manual, but it depends on the specific card type - can also be 16 and 32.
