Watched this to get some insight into what the D500 might mean for me and my impression of life and my visualization of my work photography going into the future - it's definitely hit home... Just as my other Nikon flagship cameras have done in the past - this LONG LONG LONG awaited camera (namely D500) is sure to do the same... and it brings tears to my eyes realizing how a piece of equipment can define someones ability to capture the moments which mean the most to them. I think it's easy to forget this, but in essence it's what we all come back to at the end of the day... we all have ideas of what the perfect image might be, but if you're unable to capture this for whatever reason - it's essentially worthless. Imagine attempting to EXPLAIN some once-in-a-lifetime perfect image to someone and expecting them to appreciate or give credit as if it was there in front of them, but it's just a memory because you missed it due to some AF speed issue, battery life problem, lack of FPS in an unpredictable situation, ruggedness problem because you slipped out in the field, weather seals because you were caught trekking to find the perfect shot and a summer storm rolled in... etc etc etc etc. The perfect camera ABSOLUTELY does matter and nothing is more frustrating than when you don't have it sitting in your hands. For me, Nikon has just outlined my perfect camera for the next decade to come (in the D500, it's totally-unexpected as well) and for that, I'm incredibly grateful!

+Paul Hojda I think that the difference between the Nikon optics and competitors could be universal in a best response for the electronic and mechanical components, which in practice make it seem the optical system got faster. Of course against the expenditure it is higher and not for all possible. personally I use Nikkor optics Sigma and Tamron without too much trouble. a greeting and thank you for your intervention. orazio

+Paul Hojda Sigma has produced some great lenses in the new ART series but they are as much or more than Nikon lenses. For example the 50 1.4 ART is likely the best "normal" lens on the planet but it costs about the same as the Nikon 58 1.4 which is the bokeh king in that mid range. The other standard Sigma lenses are bargains but are not as good as the similar Nikon. For example the most popular Fx lens is the 24-70 2.8 and is more expensive than the Sigma version, and for most of us, the additional cost is worth it. Same with the ubiquitous 70-200 VRII 2.8 or f/4, best there is which the Sigma version is a lower cost, but lower performance alternative. Except good things from Sigma, they have developed some great manufacturing technologies that has resulted in the ART lenses, but there are not many focal lengths yet.

+f0t0b0y Why? Every Nikon from D3300 up has more DR, several stops more, lower read noise, more recoverable shadow detail and color. Nikon that not use non-defeatable noise reduction that strips out detail at higher ISO on Canon cameras.. Canon is still way behind in sensor technology compared to Sony and Nikon. The D810 is half the price and much better DR and Image Quality, but with lower frame rate. The D5 promised to extend the low light superiority to extremes that no other company has an answer for.

+Stan Jacox I shot Nikon back in my film days. Out of the 15 photographers I stay in touch with, 3 of them shoot Nikon. We have fun Canon vs. Nikon debates all the time. We poke fun, never anything worth getting bent over. For my taste, I like the wb of Canon over Nikon. I also think(this is my opinion, NOT saying it's better)the saturation is much easier on the eye. It's that simple. I know the latests sensors have a ton more DR. I guess that's why I'm excited. I get the same color I've always loved, with the added benefit of DR etc. I would be happy to shoot a wedding with the original 5D if I had the same proper glass I own now. Heck, I still manual focus most of the time. Bells and whistles and new camera tech are on the bottom of the list for why I love shooting. I get more excited about the glass finally reaching/meeting the sensor tech. Also, I could give two shits about the video features. I wish they made a NV version for a grand discount. ;)
