NIKON D7000 - OVER 10 YEARS ON - DOES IT STILL HOLD UP? (not sponsored)

I wanted to make this video to show people that even a mid-rang camera well over 10 years can still take fantastic images. I got this camera over 5 years ago even then it surprised me.

I just hold it up a week ago in the 2nd hand market. It works well with AF-S lens without internal motor, that enables ample choice of good lens. I like those mid 80-90's lens very much in terms of cost and image quality.

I'm still using 2 of these as my everyday workhorses and will continue to until they die. In fact, I just picked up a 3rd one in like new condition for $250 Canadian. I dare anyone to beat that for value. A camera that was great 10 years ago is still good today and anyone who knows what they're doing can produce fabulous work with this camera. If you're looking for a great bargain for a top quality DSLR, you can't go wrong with a D7000, even in 2021.

I am currently using my aunt's D7000 before upgrading to my own A7iii, but so far it's a really good camera. The battery life is crazy and since I don't exactly keep it on the whole time, I can bring it out 3-5 times without having to charge it.

I got my D7000 about 1,5 years ago as a second hand (2k shutter). I totally agree with you, it is a great camera. I used Canon 650D, D80 too. But the feeling, the image quality, features for photography are great. If you are looking for a camera as a starter, it will satisfy your needs. It is more than a starter camera, even pros used it. The colors are good too. I use a kit lens and I have 50mm 1.8, such a great combo for portraits. I definitely recommend it! Not so expensive at the moment and the kit lens is also good for daily. Ps: nice video, not talking about specs, just talking about the user perspective. Good stuff.

I have been using this camera for the last 5 years and it has never let me down. I do landscapes and portraits so really don't need the burst. But I am just a little unhappy about the dinnamic range. Anyway as I shoot in raw it is easily fixed in post. This camera is indeed a workhorse. Thanks for the video.

Depending on with you do with it that is and that lens I have has been my “go to” lens since the start. It does everything for me. Landscape, wedding, portraits you name it. Even product photography.

I used my own D7000 for 10+ years (bought new) and most of my videos were done with it. And indeed an incredible camera. The buffer is a bit shallow, but the 2 slots give it a lot of flexibility. After 10 years of abuse, Nikon couldn’t clean the sensor fully anymore and because of the dirt it would miss focus sometimes, but yea… just amazing.

I'm a tad late for this vid, but I thought my story is relevant. I'm a Pro freelancer working in Scotland taking mostly landscapes well what else would you take living in Scotland. I have shot with Canon for 30 odd years a couple of years ago I changed to mirrorless with the Pany GH4 and an assortment of lenses. On the Isle of Skye, the Panasonic let me down mid-shoot with a massive shutter fault that I couldn't resolve. My shooting partner lent me his spare camera a Nikon D7000 with an 18-200mm lens and I completed the shoot. What surprised me was the quality of the photographs when compared to the GH4, I prefered the Nikon colour rendition as to sharpness I saw very little difference both cameras are 16mp but I think the Nikon had the edge That may be down to the difference in sensor size and to a certain extent lens quality. The upshot is I now shoot with two Nikon D7000's bought at silly money from eBay. Yes, I could have spent a small fortune on the latest full-frame mirrorless camera from Nikon or Canon but I'm perfectly happy with the results from the D7000 an excellent all-rounder built like a tank and can take all the knocks that photographing Scottish landscapes can hand out. I have no reservation in recommending this camera.

Paul, you are like me. In addition to Nikon d7000, I have Sony a7r3, Fuji XT3 and Panasonic GH4, but I would grab Nikon d7000 for doing hobby photos. The photos that came out of this camera is still great. The 1080p video from Nikon d7000 is still great; I manually focus my Nikon d7000 camera using a back mirror to view the LCD screen. I will have video tutorial showing this method soon.

To be honest. Other than the d7100 having 24mp and coming in a bit lighter than the d7000. There is no real difference.

If your not planning on using auto focus then I would say get it. Especially for that price. Just make sure when your pulling focus your on point. I shot my sisters wedding on it and it was great. But almost every scene was focused to infinity

Very good video and you exactly gave all I wanted to know about D7000 in relevant to 2020's market. 5:28 Heh heeeh he and though totally nothing to do with Image quality and photography but your point is sooooo valuable. In fact, something that I (A Canonist by birth, that betrayed Canon and switch to Sony mirrorless and M4/3 as a side affair!!!!) have always told since decades back that no one has come even close to the sound of the shutter release of Nikons! (Shame on me to praise the dark side - By may the force be the right one!). Nikon sounds DTS-HD, better than any Dolby when most other cameras sound like a Mono through a cheap speaker!!!! :-) Anyways thank man for this very nice and informative upload and way to go in this line of excellence. I can get a d7000 for around $200.00. I currently have a D300. I want to set up portrait sessions as a side hustle. That being written, will the D7000 produce quality prints? If so, what's the largest print size? And, what is the largest SD card it will take? I only ask, because one camera I owned rejected everything over 32gb. I know it's a lot of questions (I'm sorry!) Hi. Nice of you to watch my video. Great price for the camera you got. I use. 64gb card in mine and work fine. Also for the size of images you want all I can say is make sure you got good lighting and then you should no issues. I’m saying that I use mine for weddings that are most of the time indoors with overhead lighting and I still walk away with great images that can be printed off in any size. It definitely is a solid camera to use for any occasion

To record the video I’m using my Sony a7III with the kit lens. For the Nikon D7000 I use a Nikor 18-300mm f3.5 lens. For me this covers almost everything that I shoot, weddings and all that.

It can be. All you got to make sure is that the shutter speed is high enough to capture them in motion then try and keep your ISO low enough and try to have a fast enough lens (low F Stop). Best time would be in day light.

Yes. To set your camera and flash for high speed sync, go to your camera's Custom Setting menu, then scroll to Bracketing/Flash, where you'll see flash sync speed choices. Set the highest speed you see-it'll be either 1/200, 1/250 or 1/320 second depending on your camera. That doesn't mean the camera and flash will sync only at those speeds. Rather, it means they will sync at any shutter speed all the way up to the highest the camera offers.

You could try putting the shutter speed up to 1/60 and then slow it down in post. But I would slow it down to much as it can only shoot in 1080p at 24fps.

Hi Andrew. I would recommend it. With the right lens it’s a great tool to have. You can use 1 battery for a whole day without turning it off. I have and still use it for weddings with an 18-300 zoom lens from Nikon (think I made a short video on that) it’s my work horse camera.

It’s a good camera to get started on. You will have some fun with it. Matched up with a fast lens it won’t let you down. I’ve never used it for a music vid before only videoing weddings. Cheers for watching

It’s one of the best work horse cameras around. 1 battery will last a full day, it’s built like a tank and great in all weather conditions. Team it up with a good lens and you will have a great camera. I use mine with a 18-300mm.

Sure. It shoots on 1080p. The sound isn’t so great so you might want to get a mic for it if you want sound. I shoot weddings with it.

The D7100 is superior in image quality. For the price of a D7100 today the D7000 is obsolete as far as I am concerned. The grip on the D7000 had a design flaw. I have pretty strong hands and the grip on mine used to squeak and feel like it might break all the time. The focus and adjustments on my D7000 was horrible. I lost a sports shooting assignment because of the lousy focus performance. Nikon Pro Services did calibrate everything for me and it fixed many of the issues. I would not choose a D7000 go for a D7100. They also fixed the grip on the D7100.

the biggest issue with this camera is it becomes completely useless at low light. 3200 is barely useable and 6400 is totally granly.
