Nikon D7100 Buttons Not Working

The buttons on the left side of my D7100 stopped working while my friend took a photo of me. While I normally shoot manual, he was shooting in automatic with the on-camera flash firing. He took a few photos and then suddenly nothing. He claimed to have heard a snapping/popping sound when he pressed the shutter but the camera never took an image. It's been a month and the camera still behaves as it does in the video.

Had same problem. Then I noticed live view was not all the way off but half way. Rotated round fully so at 11 o'clock then buttons on left started working.

I think this might be because a cable in the camera has gone loose. Got the same problem right now and I'll either live with it or go to a repair shop

Hl Tim, I had exactly the same problem as you. The reason you see the metering symbol on the top screen when you turn the camera on, is that the metering button is stuck down. I just fixed mine with a very thin needle to loosen the button and its all fine now

Solution might be simple and it might not be that simple... Mine i looked and checked all the buttons to make sure its not stuck... Found out my "FN" function button was stuck and that solved my d610 problem...

Hello, what happended to your camera? I got absolutely the same problem. I tried everything but it doesn't work. It worked yesterday and it's now dead.

the problem is that the Fn button is stuck you can press it but isnt making correct contact with the circuit underneath, the fix is open the camera and moving the rubber button until is making full contact with the circuit

I had the same problem,and was able to solve it by pressing the AE-L & AF-L Button. It was stuck.
