Can you add the IR filter on the lens thread instead?

That's actually damn cleaver making the IR sensor block from a IR lens filter.

I just watched your D80 night photography video. Can you please give me a quick instruction on how to capture stars with a d80?
@kingarthurscott7 жыл бұрын
you'll need a tripod and a generic timer/interval plug on (can buy online). must be compatible with the d80. its been a while now, but from memory i think it was around ISO 100 for 60 secs with the widest appeture. adjust accordingly, and then take pics. the gap i think was around 2 mins each photo. but again, its been a while now. hope that helps

How about just removing the IR blocking filter and use a lens IR filter instead of the custom made internal one?
@kingarthurscott10 жыл бұрын
The issue you will have is dust since the ir filter acts as a protective layer for the sensor. Alternatively you could use normal glass to replace the sensors ir filter. That way you can swap lens ir or other filters

hello, interesting. i currently have a problem with condensation residue between the filter and sesor, and therefore need to disassembly the camera. Questions.... did you not use any anti-static equipment? is the disassebly process dangerous due to the exposure of high voltage components? How did you avoid getting dust between sensor and filter? normally this kind of work should be done in a cleanroom environment. Thanks for your help!

Hi there. so far mine didn't have any condensation problems so can't comment on that. I didn't use any anti-static equipment so to speak, but every time prior to working on the camera i discharged the static on say other metalic objects in the house (say a watch/screw driver etc). Be very careful with the high voltage compoents. What i did though is pull out the battery and leave the camera idle for 3 days just in case. Then I started dismantling it.

thanks for your answer. do you have any spots on the images when shooting at higher f numbers? What thickness filter did yu use and did you have any problems with autofocus after the mod? Thanks.
@kingarthurscott10 жыл бұрын
im usually on aperture roughly 5-7. no issues except a few dusts on the lens itself. Theres actually a gap between the actual sensor and the filter but that didn't affect the image whatsovever. autofocus is fine too but thats coz i use the 18-135mm nikon kit lens (ive read stories where other lenses may have slight focusing issues). ive forgotten what teh thickness is but i use the corkin p007. thickness isn't an issue given how close it is to the sensor itself.

Is the viewfinder still useable or does that camera have live view?

I ain't no surgeon. This looks scary. My husband and I are going to take night photos of extraterrestrial vehicles down near the Joshua Tree National Monument, and since most of them are only visible in the infrared spectrum, I'm going to have o bastardize my D80, but I don't want to screw it up! That filter also looks awfully dark. Will it negate night vision efforts?

nice video. how was it cutting the glass. You just score the glass right and then snap it to break on the score line?
@kingarthurscott7 жыл бұрын
Hi daniel. kind of. i gave around 2mm provision just in case. i chipped away the excess with a small sciscors and a nail clipper. then sanded it down carefully. its actually harder to snap than i thought because of the glass's thickness. had to do it 2nd attempt before it worked properly. luckily the glass had room for two attempts.

Awesome. Thanks for the update. I am getting to try your method on a 60D.

Are you using photoshop to make the images black and white or does the camera that that image?
@kingarthurscott6 жыл бұрын
Vincent Do the images taken become red and white at first. You'll need photoshop to adjust/invert the colours.to your desired effect. I've had better ir photos since this vid. quite fun

Non si dice nulla riguardo la taratura della messa a fuoco o riguardo il corretto spessore da usare. Questo video mostra come ROVINARE una D80 facendo un lavoro non corretto

Do you know how to do that on a coolpix l120 camera? Hving trouble disassembling it.

No idea tbh. This d80 mod if the first time I ever did something like this
