Despite being released about a decade ago the Nikon D800 still proves to be a very capable and reliable camera. Sure, due to it's age, there are some limitations for today's standards. However, for the value, you can really deliver great results with this camera! In this video, I will share my thoughts on this camera with you based on how I used it in case it might help some of you out. I hope you can enjoy as well as gain something from this video! :-)

Hello there..... thorough review! If you're still considering the D800 in 2024 don't give it too much thought. It's a beast! A tank! It's a pro camera that's made to put up with daily use and then some. Its a marvelous tool that won't let you down. I find that the images that it produces don't need a lot of post editing. They're pleasing to the eye straight out of the camera. Colour rendition and resolution is excellent. If it was Nikon's finest camera ever back in 2012 ,it's still an awesome machine now. I think people pay to much attention to gear when they should be paying attention to technique. Learn your craft, hone your technique and practice practice practice. One down side for me perhaps is the weight of these beasts. Probably not great if your travelling

Very well explain! Yeah, the D800 is a solid camera that still produces great results. Actually, a lot of cameras even from that time period is still more than capable of producing great results even for today's standards. It's about the practice, practice and practice. Accumulate your knowledge, develop you own aesthetics/tastes and techniques. Thank you so much for watching and also for the detailed comments, very much appreciated it. I wish you a great time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

There is very little actual difference in real-world resolution between the D800, D850, Z8 and Z9.

Love your videos, and we have similar opinions on random details, I also hate SD cards, don't mind CF cards, and love the color of my 1DX the best of all my cameras haha! Your review of this was spot on, I still have my D800 and use it regularly, I would add that it still focuses with some of my older Sigma lenses that don't AF on my D4S, for example. Wish the AF and especially fps were a bit better, but I always come back with keepers on every shoot, so that works for me 🙂. Will probably pick up a D850 over the next few months, I really do love a good DSLR! Keep the great content coming!

Interesting to hear your thoughts on the nikon d4 as being inferior to the canon 5d mark iii and 1dx. Having had to use the 5dmiii and Nikon d4 for work, i found the d4 better with autofocus, low light photography (especially in very dark conditions) and wildlife. I also preferred the colours and files. Other than the weight and mp, i would take the d4 any day. Haven't tried the 1dx, but colleagues who have suggest that it's very close to the d4.

Yeah, I personally think it’s really subjective to what we use the cameras for, hence why it’s just my thoughts since it is just based on my experience of using them. I mainly shoot portraits, events and city. The Nikon D4is my second favourite Nikon camera after the D800. But in my experience, both the D800 and the D4 struggled a lot with shooting portraits with foreground obstacles and also with high contrasted areas. Furthermore, I love using the f/1.2 and f/1.4 lenses, the canon 1DX and the 5d mark iii are able to get more hit rates then the D800 and the D4 in my experience with the native settings. When using telephotos lenses like the 70-200mm f/2.8, the 1DX and the 5D mark iii are also able to find and accurately lock on to the subject(s) much faster than the Nikon D4 and the D800. But for focusing on low lighting situations, I have to admit that the Nikon D800 and the D4 are able to focus faster half the time than the 5D mark iii and the 1DX. Though the D4 and the D800 has great colours, my personal favourite is still the 1DX overall. But of course, this is all very subjective to my shooting preferences and different photographers will have their own preferences and priorities. But at the end of the day, they are will produce great images and I really love all of them. :-) Thank you very much for watching and also for sharing your experience and story, very much appreciated it. I wish you a good time, stay safe and have fun shooting! :-)

As a D800 owner can you indicate what are the 3 best lens for this camera I currently have a 24/120 lens but looking for a low end 24 or 50 and also a larger 400 to 500mm lens can you advise on these two lens that are better for this full frame camera Love your posts keep them coming David

I'm a professional and still love using the AF-D 20-35mm F/2.8 and the AF-D 200mm F/4 Micro lenses on a D800 body.

It is a good camera but beware to buyers. I bought 2 versions of this DSLR and they all have the backfocus issue. Too lame Nikon didn't address it. The D810 was supposed to be the D800

Zero back-focus issues on any of my D800's. There were some very early production numbers that had this issue, but was quickly corrected by Nikon in later batches. It is also very easy to adjust the back-focus if you own a body that has it, so not really a problem in my view

Great stills camera, I mean literally stills subjects, not for moving toddlers and whatnot. I would buy one for $200 though
