Hi Mark, you should sometime hook up with another KZbin Nikon guy - Steve Mattheis. He lives near the Tetons and like you is passionate about his subjects.

Mark, that moment when you and daughter are sitting together and taking photos is something the both of you will treasure for the rest of your lives. What a wonderful experience. Your daughter has a wonderful teacher and your D500 is in good hands. I so want to go to the Grand Tetons... reminds me a lot of Switzerland - a place my late father was so in love with.

Another truly wonderful video Mark. My 21 year old daughter is also into wildlife photography (macro more so). On a recent trip to our local nature reserve I had my D850 and 200-500 with me and my D800e as backup. While I was firing away, my daughter, Sarah, was having some problems with her failing Canon SX50. While she was almost in tears with frustration, I fitted my Tamron 90mm G2 Macro lens to the D800e and handed it to her with the words "here, this is your new macro outfit" .... She was open mouthed in disbelief; now we both sit side by side as you did, sharing our passion for photography (made me smile to see that in your video). Just got to get myself a replacement macro lens now....lol! Though (as you demonstrated some time back) the Nikon 200-500 does a stellar job of close up photography. Cheers! From the UK.

Great story about your daughter! I have that macro lens as well. It works quite well and you are right, the 200-500 is great at close-ups.

honestly man the holidays are coming up if she wants something very similar but a little more beginner friendly and lighter (by weight and on your wallet) for near the same experience, and lens compatability, look into a d7500, it mirrors the d500's specs except for af points and sensor size :P you and your wife could look at getting one for her for christmas
