I love my F100's. But I'm afraid my Nikon F6's take the crown for the ultimate film camera. But for the price, the F100 is a no-brainer for anyone wanting a well-built camera. The colour matrix metering is amazing.

Still looking for an F6 at a good price 😁 The Nikon F5 is an awesome camera and love the fact you can add a waist-level viewfinder to the F5, wish they had kept this on the F100 and F6

I’m new to cameras and was wondering what is it exactly that the matrix metering does ?
@alanreid2085 ай бұрын
The camera meters a wide area of the frame and sets exposure according to tone distribution, color, composition, and distance for results close to those seen by the naked eye.

F6 price is still up there but they have dropped in price. I will have to keep my eyes open for a deal on a F6 as I suspect I may like it better than my F100.

The biggest sleeper film camera today. Can't believe how underrated it is. It was a top killer camera when it was released.

Agree 100% Darryl. I bought an F100 as a backup to my OG Nikon D1. They were $1000 USD at introduction! The D1 was untested in March of 2000, so having film in my bag and an F100 gave me piece of mind. Be thankful your career started with the Nikon D3. The early years were a struggle. I shot the D1/D1H/D1X/D2H/D2X before Nikon introduced the D3. It was the first Pro Nikon to shoot full frame with reliable AWB. Cheers!

I had an F3, sold and picked an almost new F100. The mais reason: AF becomes a friend as we age :) A great trusty camera, loved it! Secondary reason: I'v a D700 and moving from one camera to the other is a breeze. Third reason: I've many AI/AI-S lenses and I use them on both cameras plus my beloved F2A. My AF lenses - two - are D series, as they have aperture rings that allow the use on the F2 and I find their micro contrast better on film and the D700 sensor. Thanks for the video!

The F100 is a great camera, especially for the money. My only issue with it is the plastic film door latch - but there are metal kits available online to address that problem. I haven't needed to use one - yet - but that day is getting closer!

I am a Nikon fanboy have a couple of FM2N, FM3A and a F6. The F6 is a tank as well and is my go to when it rains :)

What lens are you using on the F6 in rain? I have heard the weather sealing on the F6 is much better than the F100

modern E type Nikkor F lenses are not compatible with the F6 nor any other Nikon film camera

I have this and man! I enjoy using it every time im using it. Now I saw a good deal for F5 and bought it. F6 is still too expensive, so im settling with the F5 for now as I have abused my F100 too much.

I have one but I have to say I prefer the canon eos 3. I bulk load vision 3 and the f00 is not good for bulk loaded film. It retracts the film all the way back in the canister and I’ve also noticed that the Nikon tends to think my bulk loaded films are at the end long be for my 36 exposures.

Sold my F3 and Fm2n recently. Still have my F100 and F80 although I’m not sure I’ll ever shoot film again.

I go between my f100 and f3. I just have D lenses for my f100, but I am thinking of getting some used G lenses for them as well. Typically yeah, the experience with the F3 is more fun. I thought about getting the waist level viewfinder for the F3, but I've read in places, that it is not that great... Shrug.
@DarrylCarey5 ай бұрын
The nice part about the Nikon G-Series lenses is they are more affordable 2nd hand with a lot of Nikon shooters switching to mirrorless. You are right about the F3, I enjoy shooting with the F3 over the F100.

I am very happy I have an F100 but it sits mostly unused since I got an F6. I won’t sell the F100 though. I save it for times when I don’t want to risk the F6 to damage or theft.

I didn't know Nikon made a 35mm 1.8 G lens, except for the dx format lens. I'll have to look into that one. Yes, I would love to see you do a video on the F3. I have two of them.
@DarrylCarey5 ай бұрын
The 35mm f/1.8 G is a really nice lens, been around for a while now and very sharp wide open. Whats the number 1 thing you like about the F3? 😉
@BeingWolfy5 ай бұрын
@DarrylCarey - I like several things about the F3, but the #1 thing would have to be the amazing 100% viewfinder. Next would be the build quality and the smoothness of the frame advance. It's the smoothest advance I've ever used. Better than all the Leicas I've used, imho. One other thing I like about it is the fact that the frame advance doesn't need to be pulled out to turn the camera on and take a picture. I hate that about the FM bodies.

I know the F6 is a better camera, but the prices are still crazy compared to the F100. The F6 was made between 2004 -2020, which is crazy to think was still making a film camera in 2020 😱

The F100 really scream "baby flagship" to me. This really looks like the film version of the D700 (I guess th D700 is the digital version of what the F100 was). I don't shoot film, but one thing for sure, if I was, I'd pick up an F100 to go right alongside my D700 !

I got an F6 imported from Japan a few years ago, but sadly the film advance didn't work, and I had to return it. I then bought 3 F100s from eBay, one by one, and the first two had problems OOTB, and had to be returned. The last one worked for a few months but then broke and no local store could repair it, so I bought a 4th one, which is still working (fingers crossed). eBay is full of F100s that sell with the rear panel broken. That, and it develops a sticky back (mine hasn't yet), and the film advance issue, it's very flimsy compared to the F6 which is built like a tank. Of course, the F6 costs 4x as much, so you get what you pay for. I also have a Leica M6 but I primarily shoot the F100 simply because I've more F-mount glass.
