In this video, I disassemble the excellent Nikon Nikkor 35mm f/2D to access and clean the aperture blades. They got a bit of oil.

The problem that you had with the aperture blades not opening all the way is the exact same problem as I am having trying to work on a Nikkor 35-70mm lens. It's driving me nuts trying to find out why it's not opening all the way. I have reassembled it 5 times! I wish you had filmed the fix for that issue.

A 35-70 Ais? I have one waiting for fix an oily diaphragm. Normally, you have some play on the holes where the diaphragm is fixed, so you can move it by a few degrees, with that degree of freedom, you can set it to open or close. Best.

Hi! Thanks for the awesome video. I think I'll give this a go myself. The only question I have is what kind of alcohol did you use to remove the oil? Is it rubbing alcohol? Isobutyl alcohol? Thanks for the help!

Also, did you assemble the aperture blades incorrectly in the video? (hence why you made the comment to assemble them counter-clockwise)
@diyextravaganza
@diyextravaganza 7 ай бұрын
Most probably, this an old video and I had less experience. But yes, most Nikon diaphragms assemble counterclockwise. Best.

Btw, lighter fluid, gasoline or bbq gas work better than alcohol in such case. Best.

How did you loosen the front piece with the white ink writing? The front on the one I have doesn't loosen.

Sometimes it is tricky as it can slip on the thread, try using double sided tape between the ring and your tool. Cheers.

Salutations.

Hey, thanks for the video! I am trying to see if it is possible to dampen the focus ring of this AF lens, as I want to use it for video and the rotation feels too light for my taste. Is there any way of doing this? Tanks in advance!

Hi, you can use a stiffer grease. The type of grease in this type of lenses is of low friction. You can try a Molykote ws2 which is a bit more creamy than the standard one. I have use it to stiffen the focus of 1.2 lenses that I like for accuracy. Cheers.

Cool @@diyextravaganza ! And where exactly should I apply the grease? I saw how you disassembled to expose the blades but but I can't figure out where I would apply the grease. Thanks in advance!
@diyextravaganza
@diyextravaganza 9 ай бұрын
@@epaitor well, to do that, you'll need to access the focusing part, but that's a bit more tricky. I don't think I have a video showing that for this specific lens. The assembly of these series of lenses is fairly common to all of them. You can take a look on a video I have showing the entire disassembly of a 24mm f2.8 AF. Cheers.

Please answer me. I cleaned the aperture blades and assembled the lens. Now the aperture blades quickly take up their position during the shot, but the photos are still too bright. Could I have assembled incorrectly? I mean, the initial position (fully open aperture) turned out to be not 2.0, but wider. And because of this, during the snapshot, the aperture does not open as it should

Hi, I do try to answer to everyone. Let's trace this together, answer these questions so I can understand what's going on: (1) You cleaned the blades and install back in position? (2) When you move by hand the aperture ring, they do move as they should? (3) When you move the aperture lever (the moving part on bayonet) they open and close quickly?. (4) When you move aperture ring manually, the diaphragm is fully open at f2, or it is fully open before?

@@Alexander84001 Hi, in your video everything seems to be ok and well assembled. So, in my experience, two things are possible, first, the spring of the diaphragm is stronger than the original one (hat that issue on a 35mm 1.4) or you must better adjust the diaphragm so you get the stops right (as here kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3emh5lsarmLntk), when you're at f/2, the blades just barely disappear on the rim. Best regards and hope this helps.

@@diyextravaganzaHi, I fixed my lens today! It was assembled incorrectly. When i assembled aperture module and put it into lens body I did it a little bit incorrect. The position of aperture module inside lens body may be a little bit changed by rotation (only 1-2 degrees). And when I rotated it thе aperture area is changed a little. I choose position when I may see the edges of aperture blades, but they are not in picture. Now exposure with this lens is correct. Thank you for your help!🙏
