Hi Stafford - back again watching your video on the P1000. Firstly, I have to say you've produced some of the best quality, sharpest bird images from the P1000 that I've seen on KZbin - really well done! Secondly, I've gone ahead and ordered a P1000! I'm looking forward to taking some bird shots next week (weather permitting in the UK just now). I'll be comparing the quality and zoom against my Coolpix B700 and I also have the Coolpix A900. If I get anything worth sharing I may even put them up on KZbin! Keep up the good work on this channel - it's inspired me alot!

Stafford, thanks for showing what can be done with super-zoom, and other modest cameras. Aside from Graham Houghton (working with Lumix cameras) your the only one doing this and proving you can get amazing results when a a photographer interested in wildlife doesn't have a mega-camera budget. I'd love to see what you could pull off at the Conowingo Damn, photographing eagles.

You do some really beautiful work with cameras a lot of wildlife photographers wouldn't seriously consider using. I covered the Senior Bowl in Mobile for my paper mostly with my Nikon D700 and 80-0400mm lens. But I also brought my Canon SX60hs. With TV controlling the sidelines still photographers were pretty much restricted to the end zones. Still the Canon gave me some nice fan shots and interesting goal-line situations FROM THE OPPOSITE END OF THE FIELD, well beyond the range of my 80-400mm. Plus, it was fun to see the expressions on the faces of my fellow press photographers when I hauled the Canon out. I'd bet on you and any of the cameras you featured in this video over a lot of the photographers with mega gear that show up at Conowingo.

Those were some beautiful photos! A couple of months ago I got the Nikon P950 as my first camera ever and I’ve been having so much fun out birding with it. It’d be nice to have a video about the manual focusing on all these Coolpix cameras, because I don’t really know how it works and the guide Nikon gives you isn’t very helpful either. The small “spot” autofocus works out fine most times, but it struggles if there are branches or leaves in front of the subject or around it. Birds in flight are a whole other issue, but I knew what I was getting into when I bought this camera. I’d also like to ask how do you manage to get such sharp pictures at 1/30th of a second or lower. When I shoot at that shutter speed all my pictures have motion blur, even with decent lighting. I look forward to your response. Greeting from Spain!
@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE4 жыл бұрын
Charlie thanks for the compliment. You make a good point about the auto focus and manual focus. I am thinking of working some of those discussions in with upcoming videos. I am using manual focus alot more because of lower light. I use to only really use the P1000/P950 and point in shoots in good to excellent light. Now with less than great lighting conditions manual focus is very helpful. As far as the 1/30th of a second there are a few possible issues. One is the subject moving. You have to know the animal and watch their head and body movenments. Many animals move in a rhythm of head movements. Then I burst mode 7 frames a second around when I think they are going to pause their head movements. All wildlife photographers do the same and it gives them best chance of success. It is a numbers game. The second is the camera movement which I think many people have as well. Normally at 1/30 of a second at 1200mm I brace up against something. That takes practice. In this instance I actually had a tripod which is rock solid. You can use a branch or tree or the ground if needed. In the rabbit video I used my arms and ground. Hope this helps. Stafford.

Awesome video! Nice to see that you can get some sharp stuff with the p1000! I have a d500 200-500mm combo and it's great, only issue is I'm having a little one later this year! Lugging that around with 2, dogs and a baby isn't going to be fun 😂. Been looking to get the p1000 maybe as i will still be able to fit it in somewhere. I know I'm sacrificing my birds in flight but it's good to know I will still be able to get sharp photos!

Great idea using natural props to help with background. I'm going to try that tomorrow with my P950. Do you think at some future point you could provide a step-by-step video of the actual camera setup process when shooting this or other type of bird photography (using your P1000) ? It would help to know why you used a particular setting for a particular shot. Thank you! Good to see you back!
@MAKE_PHOTOGRAPHS_ANYWHERE4 жыл бұрын
Brian thanks for watching and contributing. You should do a setup it does really help in getting the rust out. I forget sometimes the features of these cameras. I use so many that they kind of blend together so backyard birding helps me keep fresh with the one I am rusty at. As far as the settings go and the setup. I have some videos on the actual P1000,p950, and other bridge camera settings. These are a good starting point as it is universal for every small sensor and large super zoom camera. If you can follow the videos it should help alot. As you mentioned in the future I will try to be aware of noting small changes and why. For instance I used Manual Focus On the Squirrel because he was so close and things were dark. Manual Focus is becoming more and more used with this camera. Again, I would be alot better if I justed used this camera but I do have others that are needed for video and super low light. Low Light is the kller still trying to use these camera more and more in every situation if possible. Thanks again and in the future I will try to break down differences on why I do certain things. Stafford Fuhs

Again, your title is misleading. If you are going only put "Nikon P1000" in the title, then that should be what the video is about. You don't use the P1000 until 4/5ths into the video. Your idea about providing food and sheltering indoors is a great idea. Thanks for the video.
